One of the biggest challenges that a lot of instructional designers and eLearning developers face when creating a course in Articulate Storyline, or any eLearning authoring tool for that matter, is finding the right graphics.
But, if you’re like a lot of folks, you may have discovered that Canva offers a huge library of free templates and graphics, which can make it easy to design beautiful slides and graphics for your eLearning courses. However, one question you may have asked yourself is how you can get these graphics out of Canva and into a tool like Articulate Storyline.
Well, the good news is, as long as you have PowerPoint, it's pretty easy! So, in this video, I'll show you how to use graphics and templates from Canva in Articulate Storyline.

I knew there was a reason I liked Canva so much. Thanks for this great info!
You bet!
Tim, thanks a lot for this video! It really helps to save time and get a decent visual design
Great video. Something to add. MS Office documents (i.e., PPTX files) are just ZIP files in disguise. Thus, to extract all the images from a PowerPoint, just rename the presentation file extension from PPTX to ZIP in File Explorer, and then extract the ZIP file.
Thanks for sharing! I’ll have to give this a try!
Already used this tip twice in 3 days. Thank you so much! 😍
I love to hear that! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this video Tim, one advice
You can import ppt to storyline directly without save picture by picture and each graphic will import directly, so you can control or animate it.
Just try to keep all pictures in ppt separated not in group.
This is exactly what I needed for PowerPoint and Storyline. Thanks
I'm glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Thank you, Tim, for sharing these great tips.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
So useful Tim! Thanks ❤
My pleasure!
Great tips, Tim! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, Tim! Thanks so much for sharing this info with us!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another option instead of saving these individually is to rename the .PPTX file extension to .ZIP.
Accept the change, and open the .ZIP file.
In there will be a 'ppt' folder and within that a 'media' folder that contains very individual asset as a png/svg to insert into storyline.
Great solutions for those on free plan of Canva. For those of us who have a Canva Pro subscription, I imagine it would be just as easy to save each image we use in Canva as a PNG - with a transparent background - so it can easily be added to Articulate Storyline?
Thanks for watching! Unfortunately, after a ton of research, I was unable to find a way to export a single graphic or image out of Canva, regardless if you’re a free or pro member. However, this may have changed since I recorded this video…so it’s worth giving it a try! Let me know!
@@elearningacdmy The "workaround" to download an image housed in Canva would be to use Canva Pro, select an image, go to Edit Photo, Remove background, then download as Jpg/PNG with Transparent Background. 🙂 If it's an image you dont want to delete the background of.... then repeat all steps, excluding Remove Background (which would work fine for free version).
Excellent tip!
I’m looking to purchase a laptop, I use Storyline mostly. Do you recommend a PC or Mac (using Parallel)? Thanks!
Personally, I recommend a Mac...BUT...I'm an Apple person through and through, so I'm a little biased. If you can afford it, a Mac will outlast your next three PCs, and it has been my experience that Windows runs better on Mac (via Parallels) than it does on a PC. So, if you're willing to jump through those few small hoops, a Mac is great. Here's a video on installing Windows and Storyline on a Mac: ua-cam.com/video/f10rnRmHV64/v-deo.html
@@elearningacdmyThank you! 😊
So can you use these images within a corporate setting setting without being subject to copyright? Also, love the video :)
That’s correct! Anything that is offered on the free tier is free to use for commercial purposes.
Thanks Tim
