  • The original, never officially released David Motion produced mix of Who Knows What Love Is. Only found on the very first vinyl test pressing of the Strawberry Switchblade album.
WEA bosses allegedly felt Motions production was too spiky and wanted a more commercial sound, so brought in producer Phil Thornalley to rework this track and Let Her Go. Sadly their efforts backfired, with only the Motion produced Since Yesterday becoming a sizeable hit.
Many thanks to Strawberryswitchblade.net for being the best source of SS info on the web.
Video synchronisation, audio de-clicking and tweaking by myself.

Yes same this is amazing. I keep watching and listening to it. I love Strawberry Switchblade so much. I feel they reflect such specific feelings and identity I have, I didn't think I'd ever see something like this. They both seem very lovely

    Sitting in my front room
    On a rainy afternoon
My mind turns to think of you
And how I might see you soon
Then I get myself a glass of milk
    And a colour magazine
    I flick through it slowly
    But the pages are unseen
    And I think
    Who knows what love is
    I wonder if you do
Who can tell me what love is
I wish it could be you
I wish it could be you
    Sitting in my front room
As the sun is going down
    I'm wishing I had someone
    Who could maybe come around
Oh but all I do is watch TV
    A programme I want to
    But I never see it
    Cos I'm thinking about you
    And I think
    Who knows what love is
    I wonder if you do
Who can tell me what love is
I wish it could be you
I wish it could be you
    Who knows what love is
    I wonder if you do
Who can tell me what love is
I wish it could be you
I wish it could be you
    Who knows

is there a higher quality of the video picture of this ... i mean Tim Pope directed it there has to be a better looking one, and i also remember seeing some behind the scenes footage of the making of this video.

I wish there was as it's a gorgeous looking video in HQ, from what I remember back then. Unfortunately we seem to be stuck with this until a better source is found. A two disc reissue of the album with a DVD of the videos would be really nice.

Isn't it an Edit Version of the Extended Mix where is found on the japanese 12" album?

It's not I'm afraid, though I can see what you mean, it does sound similar in places. The audio for this came from the test pressing owned by producer David Motion himself. Some of the Extended versions on the Japanese release were put together by the record company, with no involvement from either the girls or producers from what I can gather.
