Short, Medium, and Wide Brim Fedoras... What's the Difference?

- Our virtual stylist Alex is here to show us how Goorin categorizes our range of fedora brims. We generally describe our hats as short brims, medium brims, and wide brims. Our shortest brims are going to be any size under 2 1/4", our medium brims from 2 1/4" up to 3", and our wide brims will be any brim size 3” and above. View the video to get some solid visuals on the three brim sizes. Other hat companies may differ in their brim size descriptions. This is namely how Goorin Bros. categorizes our fedora range.

You are correct. the fight between Obi Wan versus Darth Mal in the Phantom Menace was the ultimate to me. For me, it was a perfect blend of sword choreography and functional sword play. Not to mention the energy Ewan McGregor displayed when they fought!
Wait ! I can answer this one ! "Short" (?) is a narrow brim, medium is a medium brim, and wide brim is a wide brim. Now we're clear.
Great video my man! As a new comer to wearing fedoras, this was a great introduction to understanding how to wear them and in what situations certain widths may be best for such as a summer day for shade.

Finally, someone to explain the different brim sizes. I appreciate all the related info you provide, such as brim size relative to shoulder size, wearing a brimmed hat for the first time might feel a bit large, et cetera. Good presentation. You should do more videos on similar topics for first-time hat buyers who need reassurance and advice, for example what methods one can use to identify a suitable hat (versus an awkward hat one's friends will not mock), or how to trust your own taste and not feel self conscious. What were your personal experiences in these areas?

Just gave a short brim Stetson fedora to my friend, she has the fashion chops to pull it off and it fits her! Found a three inch triple x Stetson that fits me.
Hello all. Thanks my man for the video. It helped me tremendously. Your efforts and time are appreciated. The only gripe I have is I wish you could has used a better hat to illustrate a 2.5 brim size. The brim on that hat was floppy and it was a little difficult to gage how a 2.5 brim would look on me. Other than that, the video was great for me to learn and get a feel what size brims look good on me. Keep up the good work. Rock rock on!!!

Nice Presentation
When describing the shape, brim width etc of a hat, it might be an idea to stand in front of plain background. Rather than, as you do several times here, talk about the proportins of a dark hat being 'framed' by a dark hat on the wall.
Love the video but it would be awesome if you would link the hats in the description.
The three or four inch brim Fedora to me always looks best when tilted back away from the face rather then down over it. Unless of course you are using it as shade. Good video presentation.

A short brim is sometimes called "trilby" - do you use that term? If so, is it for all short brims, or just certain ones? Is it different from a "porkpie"?

I wish he'd have stepped to the side with the dark hats so the hats behind him did not cause the hat he models to blend in with the hat behind him so the profile is easier to discern.

Brims are nice...but it all depends on the crown.
I purchased two fedoras. They were too much hat for me to even drive in my car. I was disappointed with them.
Very nice informative video. The only distraction was your large brim ego.

Stetson is a brand.... not a type of hat.... Stetson make all kinds of hats... that style of hat this man is showing. Is very much called a fedora. No matter who makes it...
