  • Howard and his son Kirby Bracken tell the story of their farm, and how their search for a solution to baling too dry of hay lead them to look at and eventually purchase the DewPoint hay steamer. It wasn't until after the Staheli West 72-hour challenge that they knew the Steamer could be that solution.

      Thanks Jack. Sounds like you have a cool farm history. I also come from the farm and wouldn't trade those memories for anything. It taught me a lot about life and hard work. It's always sad to see beautiful farms get split up and turn into houses.

      I'm in the same boat at the moment . My dad owns half the farm and his two brothers own the other half. One of his two brothers got his first girlfriend at the age of 70 ish and she lives over the other side of Australia. Beacause of that the other half has to be sold. It breaks my heart because it breaks my dads heart. All those thousands of hours that he spent clearing mostly by hand and the other brother did fuck all. Hadn't even been up to the farm for ten years beforehand. We also had a family orchard 40 odd miles away where we all grew up. My great, great grandparents bought it. He up and sold that too as well as the homestead all the packing sheds, coolstores, land with a HUGE dam on it. I hope she gives him the clap or pisses him off after a couple of years. It's hard enough making a living off of 2000 acres, now it will be chopped in half and be next to impossible. Thanks uncle asshole. I really hope you rot in hell and ya dick falls off.

    Pretty cool. I'm out here on the front range of Colorado and we've got similar weather. Sure is frustrating when you can't get enough humidity to put a good bale together.

    • @StaheliWest
      @StaheliWest  6 років тому

      Yeah, we no longer have to rely on mother nature. When the hay is dry, we know that we can add steam and make high quality hay any time of the day. How many acres do you guys farm? We have quite a number of customers over in Colorado.

  • @jackybruckers
    @jackybruckers 5 років тому +4

    This is completely new for me . Never heard of hay being to dry . What %moisture are you talking about when the hay is too dry , and what % when it is ok to bale ? What happens when the hay gets too dry baled ? Is it only a problem in alfalfa , or also in grass-hay ?
    Greetings from Belgium. Do you also speak dutch ?

    • @StaheliWest
      @StaheliWest  5 років тому

      Yes, in the western U.S., Argentina, Western Canada, Mexico, and South America, farmers often deal with hay being too dry. We struggle to get any dew to make quality hay. Having the steamer allows farmers to make quality hay all day and all night without the need for dew.
      When the hay is too dry, the leaves will shatter and fall off of the stems. Applying steam to the hay softens and moisturizes the hay so that we retain more leaves. Studies show that baling with steam reduces leaf loss by 58% compared to good natural dew.
      It is mainly used in alfalfa, but our customers are also using the steamer on grain hay, oaten hay, 3-way, and grass. Grass is really dusty when it isn't baled with steam or dew, so yes, it is used in grass as well.
      I don't speak dutch, but I do speak German. Vielen Dank! Schoene Gruesse aus Amerika.

      jacky bruckers if hay are to dry when baling, you loose a lot of leafs on any hay, that fall off ore turn to dust..
      it also make it harder to press a hard bale, since the stem of the gras act almost like springs.

    • @StaheliWest
      @StaheliWest  6 років тому +3

      The DewPoint 6210 steams the hay before and during the baling process to soften the crop so that it doesn't become shattered. It helps retain leaves in the bale. It also allows farmers to be more productive, as farmers can now bale hay any time of the day.

      The crop is grown under what are called pivot irrgators. the water comes up out of the ground though a pipe. This pipe is the supply and also the one fixed point of the system. Sections about 30 meters long, are support on an upright triangle, with the water pipe at the top and two large (ish) wheels at the bottom. The systems size is determined by the number of these sections the have bolted together, from 4 to 20. They are driven by electric motors and travel very slowly in a circle. As you can see, without the irrigation, it doesn't look so green. There are images of the system early on; 0.18.
