Praetors don't provide a ward just for being there. Like everything in SCE it's needlessly awkward and obtuse. That respawned unit is a new unit. They have not soul bonded to Karazai in the deployment phase. They are essentially a blank warscroll when respawned.
Thats incorrect. The replacement unit is the same unit with the same abilities. If we went by what you are saying then when they appear that would be a pseudo deployment phase and they would be able to choose q new hero To attach to which would be even more powerful

@@dannyjaye When I replace my general Bloodthirster with a command trait and an artefact for 8 points, it's a new unit, he doesn't come back with the command trait and the artefact. It's the same for every replacement unit. I think the sylvaneth have an exception to this with an artefact, because it's not a "replacement unit" they bring back.

Not the same as Ravagers subhost for StD, or other replacement units, like the Stormcast here, which don't have any ability triggers that may have been missed in prior phases, such as the ward.

Big mistake was being greedy and not TPing the longstrikes to shoot off Archaon. Him off the board, healing and rallying, Karazai wouldve then run rampant.
Nice to see a big fight! Powering through with the dragons turn 1 in the hope of getting a double, dropping another tactic, just for a bonus on the charge seams quite risky considering that: 1) The knight can charge back in and have double damage, if they get the turn 2) The knight are free to move and charge the varanguard Also activating the place of power with 2 units in the enemy turn doesn't make much sense since you could only counter spell/pray with one of them and doesn't effect the dispell.
@@SeasonofWar it gives flexibility, but in the enemy turn you are only doing magical intervention with 1 unit and giving how often a 1 is rolled on a D6 ( which is about 50% XD) is a risk with almost no reward.. good game though.. just thinking out loud to make mental notes to self.

@ the rule in the GHB says pick a unit in your generals regiment to be your honour guard. In the list the praetors were in the regiment lead by the Lord relictor
I've fought blocks of 20 warriors. Very durable, very tough to chew through. Especially with the huge buffs to rally and then things like Endless Lifeswarm.
They were better before the battle tome. There are already ways to get them a ward to when you could mark them nurgle they were 40 wounds, -1 to be wounded, 3 up save 5+ ward. They just didn’t die lol.
whoopee, warriors, varangard, chozen and Archaon are fine everything else is shit and has no chance of becoming better, not even the one guy who may manage to turn into a Daemon Prince because that unit got nerfed. How are you even posting dummy?
@ they change a lot, eye of the gods, gone for all units so slaves to darkness is automatically worse; pledges, only for non-unique units so no more -1 to wound mark of nurgle Archaon which is about the same as a wounds reduction from 30 to 25 and they can only be used on one unit at a time, unless they have a banner which varanguard don’t get. So yeah, a lot has changed for those units.
Why run varanguard when you can run slaanesh banner and pledge chosen from the get-go, and you could pair that with deepstrike from gaunt summoner, gg varanguard.
@@theopkid2485 "change nothing" meaning how you build lists and play them. The aye of the gods was a win more rule, the new one will see almost no play because small fighting heros are bed. The mark are debuffed but the nurgle one was needed because it was really too strong. Still you have an elite, tanky army that wins by trading in fighting and can charge easily.
I'm excited for the new S2D rules. I think the new pledge/banner system is far more interesting than the previous eye of the gods slot machine from the index. Some of the new synergies we have can make less used units like Darkoath Fellriders or Theridons slap far above their current points investment. The teleportation tricks from Tzeentch make the Gaunt Summoner and Mutilith Vortex Beast very interesting choices too.
I'd suggest you read the new rules they suck ass. The new system is one unit per army per turn for just one small buff, instead of the current rules with every qualifying unit in the army being able to get a STACKABLE buff every round, plus any times a DP granted it in the hero round as well. Sometime the comments on this channel are so fucking ignorant, read the rules, learn the game before you post dummy.
This StD book has even more flavor to it than before! I really like the way it is intended to work, like madman running around and pledging themself to the God they actually need is awesome :D

Run moves don't prevent shooting. The specific ability Shoot has the restriction that a unit can't use if it has run, but any ability that allows you to make a shooting attack without using the Shoot ability (e.g. Covering Fire) that doesn't have that ability lets you shoot after running. Only if the wording is "this unit may use a Shoot ability" will it be unable to shoot after running.
The new S2D is such garbage I cannot imagine how angry the people suckered into buying and building darkoath must feel. The way they screw the Daemon Prince unit, and didn't fix all the bad rules for the big S2D units like vortex and crusher is so lazy and obnoxious. The clueless writers are just forcing people to play Archaon and varangard, etc... the same units that are all more powerful than the others, so much for eternal balance eh GW? friggen Matt Rose has not clue how rules and play really work. The asshats at GW figured out how to make the subpar faction index even worse, such useless shit.

while i dont entirely agree i do also think that all of the bad, boring and useless stuff is litteraly unchanged which is really disappointing. all of the subfactions suck, all of the artefacts suck, the manifestation lore sucks, the non hero monsters suck, most heroes suck, the demon prince is too weak to be the reward for the "new" ascension thingy, feels unthematic and unrewarding. everything darkoath sucks, despite oaths being a cool idea they dont work the way they are done (getting strike first from killing a hero or monster on a non combat stat hero is not only impossible to do but also useless when you actually manage to achieve it). i could go on and its just sad because they probably wont get a new tome in the near future

They were definately one of the weakest factions at the start, when nighthaunt, lumineth, S2D and GSG were dominating. The reduction in Karazai and Krondys' costs, and how they free up your access to the vanguard chamber units has actually let them play their good units at a reasonable price. Palladors and Vigilors are amazing at the moment, Terminos+Reclusians is a good combo (but you can only take one ruination chamber unit realistically) and reinforced dragons can give you some decent 1 drop builds. But there are so many bad units filling out the army atm.

the Lord-Relictor used the place of power to get +1 to chants, so there was value in both!

@@JackCawood unbind doesn't benefit from places of power if I am not mistaken..
@ it allows a hero without a power level to unbind/dispel.

Also you don't get the ward from bringing back Praetors because they are not bound to anyone as that is a deployment ability.

The index was at least fun to play big armored boys with, this just straight up sucks and has no real flavor.
