Lol. Laz is the greatest troll I've ever seen.. Just everything about this race to his approach to setting the course, to the way he psychologically tortures people with his last minute twists (I'm thinking specifically about the year that he gave everyone watches set to "Barkley time" in order to mess with people's internal clock...) Dude is a savage and I LOVE it. I only wish I were worthy of the Barkley.
Seven books. Quit at the highest point on the course. Dying flashlight, midnight, sleet, no rain gear. Still had 4 miles to go on quitters road to get back to camp to get tapped out.
Lol what are you talking about dude? In this attempt he hiked over 15 MILES (not kilometers) over rough terrain all while self-navigating a course he had never been on. The course is actually around 126 miles on average.
No wonder the Barkley's is nearly impossible…a whole fucking bunch of Senior Citizens compete in it!. If I only knew how to get in to show those peeps that it can be done.
+Ryan Roberts I just got back from Tennessee this very moment (I swear). I'm fascinated about competing in that event that I actually took a 9 hr(s) drive down there to find out how to enter....my efforts were in vain but I will continue to dig. Anyway, long story short, as a last resort, I left my contact info with one of the Rangers that I spoke with yesterday (03-26-16) to see if she could please hand it to "Laz." Her name's Veronica. Although I'm not holding my breath, I hope Laz gets a hold of my info that I left for him so that he could get me into that little event of his. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that I could complete those five loops in the allotted time. Something would have to tear or break in order for me not to keep going. But it certainly wouldn't be my spirit.
+Ryan Roberts I watched the documentary four times and have done endless research. Nothing. When I spoke with one of the Rangers, he said, "...and if a runner tells you and they find out, he will be kicked off from ever competing in it again. It's that secretive." Lol. Check out the documentary. People who don't belong there ( they get picked by Laz because he knows they have absolutely no chance to complete the course) compete. Laughable.
***** Laz, where and when did I say that I was "giving up" on my "endless search?" You may need to brush-up on your reading and comprehension skills, Laz. You're getting old, Laz. Keep picking your Senior Citizens to compete in your little event, Laz.
+EvilSecondTwin Why don't you try Nolan's 14 as a warmup? Most people put it in the same range but maybe slightly "easier" than Barkley's. And you don't have to get "into" anything...you can just go do it anytime you'd like. Good luck and let us know how it goes if you do it!
Thank you for posting, loved the video and especially the lessons learned. Your determination I'm sure will be inspiring to those that follow.
Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. Getting a taste this September at the fall classic. Hoping I don't get lost on the "candy ass" trails.

Loved this video! I found it after watching the documentary and enjoyed your vid even more! Keep making more vids...You have something to say!!!!
+PJ Bottoms Hey thanks!
Great Vid, thx for sharing!
Great video Geoffrey!!!
I have probably watched this 30 times or so over the years thank you!
Ha! I try to forget it!
Thanks Edward!
This video is great! Well done!
Great to see this “raw” footage from many years ago before this race has gained worldwide recognition. Pre sponsored runners and UA-camrs.
Still my favorite Barkley video!
OMG! They're so young!!!! Well, at the same time, the stuff that you don't want to have changed, seems mostly not to have. 😛
Was the first book Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace?
+J CC yep
Did you finish the first lap?

I thought you needed to be invited to Barkley.
nah but they make it hard to figure out how to apply
I could do this in my sleep , if they gave a week , lol
I def couldn't do it in a week
Awful sound, good video. Never include gopro audio!
I bet all these Senior Citizens couldn't even complete a 5K...much less 100K in mountains. lol
And this is at least 100 miles

The guy in the opening is too gross to be on camera. Blah
