Agree with all those three points you made!! Would definitely buy the artbook!! Hell yeah to bloodborne art competition, and continue that with an artbook too!!
Glad someone else commented on that. I was making breakfast and I actually got such a visibly big smile on my face I felt like I was going to cry from joy! I was able to put myself there for a moment and it brought happiness.
totally agree I have always thought that living in the world of dark souls would be terrible but that picture made me rethink it and I would actually want to live there
Oh how I wish the people at From Software will see this video. It's such a huge testament to the legacy they've created, the amazing fanbase it has fostered and the unbelievably massive set of talents and creativity the artist in it possess. My mouth has been agape from start to finish watching this video, with the 1st place sending me constant shivers all over my body. Thank you Vaati for making this happen and thank you a thousand times to all the artist who have visualized all of these locations which we know so little yet so much about. Even though I have a lot to say I am still speechless. This video even made waiting for Elden Ring news tolerable, something I thought impossible. Wow, this truly is the best community. Love.
These are honestly so good that they look like overdeveloped concepts for an actual souls game, like holy hell they are just dripping with atmosphere and aesthetic. These artists are incredible with how much story and lore they can fit with sheer visuals alone, just a feast for the eyes.
17:20 this is so cool, the idea of Gwyn just walking through city streets. Imagine you were just out shopping one day and then God walks past you with an army of knights. Pretty insane
I loved seeing the scratched out line of "Only once did someone question father" hinting at the Nameless King(if he is who we theorize he is) having already been, but only recently enough as to not yet be forgotten, exiled.
Perhaps also if Gwyndolin is the one telling the story, he wrote down the line as he knew firsthand of his brother's fate and he is sympathizing with him, and at how rash Gwyn's punishment was. He then scratched it out knowing he'd be severely reprimanded for hinting towards his older brother, and for putting a smudge on his Father's immaculate and unquestionable image of Light.
Hey all, entomologist here! Fun fact, ants actually secure the sand in their hills with spittle, it makes it harder and more resistant to erosion. So after decades of erosion, it's possible that all that's left would be the walls of the main hollow tube. So it's not unlikely that large spires like that would be associated with ant hills 👍
Gwyn, the sunlight, left Anor Londo. It was left to Gwyndolin to keep the sun burning in Anor Londo via illusion...could he have drawn inspiration from the sunlight maggot for his headpiece? Is his headpiece just a golden sunlight maggot? Idk...cool to think about though.
Ohhh..I thought about it more. What if Gwyndolin's tentacles are actually the long term effects of the golden sunlight maggot that Gwyndolin is using to project sunlight over Anor Londo. The Maggot would be a parasite of Choas, with the tentacles as way of control. Also, this would explain why Gwyndolin has "fallen ill" when Aldritch devours him. *head canon-thats a golden sunlight maggot on his face*
DS3 2016 yet the community still so vibrant. Invader videos depict those that have long ago given up the linking of the flame, having reached meta levels, souls are obsolete currency, even embers are freely scattered about levels, those accounts are hollowed, or mad, just piling up victims. Diligent players have reached all endings yet, indeed, we begin next NG+++++ trapped in the eternal cycle of linking the flame.
Yeah, even after Dark Souls is over, and I don't know what's with Bloodborne, or will we get a Demon's Soul Remastered, we still create, we are still active. That's something only a few communities can tell about themselves.
"Bystanders who had not yet ascended to immortality were incinerated by the impact of her fury" is the most raw depiction of power i've ever heard and really humbled my view on how powerful the gods in Dark Souls are
@Paulito8000 @@RougeMephilesClone Wuxia is chinese martial arts fantasy, while sometimes in wuxia there are concepts like alchemy and such it's more of a realistic setting than xianxia, which is more high fantasy. In a wuxia novel you may expect at the climax for the main character to be utilising some amazing sword technique or something that makes them nigh unbeatable in the martial arts world, whereas at the climax of a xianxia novel you may expect a main character to be able to destroy planets/stars, create entire universes, be immortal and more, basically wuxia is more realistic fantasy (take that "realistic" quote with a hefty pinch of salt) while Xianxia is much higher fantasy, with characters often able to perform real magic at very early stages of their cultivation. There are some great examples of xianxia and some bad (as you'd expect from any genre) a personal favourite author of mine is Er-Gen, author of highly acclaimed novels like "I shall seal the heavens" "A will Eternal" and "Renegade Immortal" he's done more than just those 3 though.
I remember when I tried to place in the sekiro art competition. I had thought it was some of my best work that I had made. Yet when I saw the other entries, I realized I had no hope. Even when you do your best, your very best, it may not be enough. But don’t let that stop you. I have tried to enter into the other art competitions as well but to no avail. Yet I still love to see those entries that blew me out of the water and I want to see more of these in the future. Keep up the good work everyone.
The Catarina Dungeon, the child had a fork in his shield to further mimic the armor of the elder knights....wow....all of these entries blew me away but that one detail will stick with me! Thank you to everyone involved in this competition! Your work and appreciation to the amazing world that FROMSOFT created is a gift to all those that love these games and I cannot personally thank you enough!
I don't really get art and I missed out a lot of the deatils but Vaati breaking down the art pieces really helped me understand and have a real heartfelt appreciation for all of these art pieces. All these artists deserve so much love and praise. I would really love an artbook with such lovely and awe inspiring art and Vaati breaking down all the nuances and details in them.
That, and well...hopefully you have a better appreciation for art in general, going forward. Artists are mostly responsible for all the flavor in your everyday life. The colors on clothes, buildings, ads posters, you name it. Art in general is underappreciated.
Absolutely agree. I enjoy the souls games but I'm not the kind of person who can discover all the lore and such. Vaati breaking things down added volumes to the art pieces.
In the last picture, the one of Izalith... there’s a crossed out line: “Only once did someone dare question him.” The one... must be the Nameless King. Edit: omg 1.8k likes
@@Tonnolin no, gwyn personally kicked NK out and ordered him erased. when he linked the fire, the gods immediately turned their backs on gwyn and abandoned anor londo, scattering themselves across the world, there would have been nobody there to kick NK out. and time is convoluted, because light is time. gwyn could have met gwyndolin by manipulating time, and it is known that it's by gwyn's decree that gwyndolin be raised female due to the nature of his magic. so, while this izalith scene is unlikely to have occurred, partially because gwyndolin probably wasn't born yet, gwyn did probably meet all of his children at least once.
Jesus Christ, every single one of these pieces are breath taking. I just want all of these hanging on my walls at home lol. Every artist, well done, bravo.
The depiction of Izalith has so many references to Berserk, especially the Demon's designs are reminiscent of scenes from the Eclipse. So it's basically canon and ready to be implemented into DS1...
I knew I wasn’t the only one who caught that anyways talking about references did anyone catch that demon looking thing hanging from the side of the building at 23:05 looking really similar to the count in his apostle slug form from berserk or is that just me🤔
Funny enough when Vaati started showing the first painting I was saying: "this looks like a hellish landscape full of chaos and the feeling of descenting into madness, yup, this is like Berserk"
@@user-ic1ec7wm5z 31:19 In his written explanations he states that he studied Berserk's demons a lot and there's even a picture from the manga presented next to his art. So nice to see some mashup between the two universes !
Honestly that was my first thought too! Whether the story is told through the future Nameless King or Gwyndolin, its quite a unique perspective given their importance to the Souls universe and yet we hardly ever hear them speak if at all
It somehow felt like a "Prepare to Cry" for me too Also, I love how the narration implies the Firstborn of Gwyn was the first to also question Gwyn, but had even that reference struck out.
Me too, with the parallels drawn with him and the Ceaseless Discharge, and the sun maggot that later consumes Solaire, a follower of the Nameless King.
If we had a Boss fight against The witch of Izalith, It would be like more powerful version of Jester Thomas (the pyromancer clown summoned in dark souls 2 before Mytha, and a invader in the Shulva's dlc)
@@magicmanscott40k A lot of these entries are painted as if they were concept art, which is an entirely different job to creating full on paintings. The latter takes way longer by the way so this technical skill category is bullshit.
The Story of Izalith was amazing. Witnessing the moment of Gwyn entering Izalith to judge the Witch for her arts and leading to the war between Izalith and Gwyn through the eyes of an innocent Child of Gwyn who probably doesnt know whats going adds such an incredible effect to the the already amazing story. Thank you very much for this Ricardo.
Nick Hawk Not true at all actually. As a person who is active in the modding community, we don’t actually have the tools yet to completely customize maps yet. Navmeshes not being able to be edited is a big issue, along with the fact that we can’t actually edit hard-set collision. HOWEVER, when these things become a reality, worlds such as the ones in this video would entirely be possible, although it would probably take multiple years to make.
Nick Hawk Also, “a few weeks” is VERY inaccurate. I’ve seen some great mods in the making, one of which has been in progress for around a year. It’s the best mod I’ve ever seen, and things such as this DO NOT take “a few weeks” lmao.
Just another fool Well of course! The problem is, nobody really has serious drive to make said tools. I’ve personally been waiting for certain tools for a very long time, and like you say, it’s just a matter of time.
I come back here every so often to listen to Vatti’s reading of Ricardo’s Izalith tale. Truly one of the best adaptations/interpretations of souls lore. I hope Miyazaki sees these
Im just gonna say: I absolutely ADORE the Catarina art. I know it isn't the best, but that single image not only oozes personality, but it also does a good job showing off the great aspects of Catarina (the general jovial tone, the lax security for the open jails, and the sheer heroic aspects of being an onion knight) while also teasing at possible shortcomings of such a kingdom, predominantly the onion knights so eager for excitememt, glory, and joy that they are often jailed (if lightly so) because they get too rowdy. That being said, there's so much good art that I don't envy what you had to go through to judge each one.
Dude same here. The catarina was my favorite even if others were more well drawn and stuff. It just made me happy to look at, seriously, the bard there in the jail playing for his fellow knight who was drinking is just an all around pleasant scene. It is art worthy of an onion bro.
The Catarina knights are my favorite faction in game. In a world filled with so many sad places and stories. Its always nice to see a Catarina knight trying to make it little better. For a little while at least..
I love this image, for the single fact, that it show us the world of Dark Souls not in their final hours, not trough their usual despair and decay of time and everything else, it show us LIFE, people happy and enjoying their lives. It show us that this world, not only exist in a constant "dark feel", and this do a lot to enhance the feeling that even if is for a hour, a minute or a second, fight against the end of the world and delay it, is worth.
Must admit I worked my ass off for this competition, and was really hoping to get a good spot. But seeing the top 10 put so much thought and care into their pieces is amazing. Especially Nr 1s writing blew me away. The execution of the piece perfectly fitted it. In the end I grew a lot from this and got some solid portfolio pieces I think. Hope to see you all in the next challenge. Thank you vaati for hosting these competitions.
Holy gwyn, Ceaseless being wrapped in Xanthos clothes is actually the most simple genius ive ever seen. That Izalith entry was just absolutely perfect, I'm so happy it got first place. incredible world building and storytelling from the creator.
What do you think about having a MUSIC version of this series? This would be awesome for the ppl like me who cant draw, but can sing/make music. Loving the Series Vaati!
Funny enough there a some Black/Death Metal (e.g. Firelink - The Inveterate Fire | Dayum - Dark Souls | Soulmass - The Weakness of Virtue) and many Dungeon Synth Projects (e.g. First Flame - Link The Fire | Bellkeeper - The First Flame of Lordran | Dungeons of Irithyll - Journey Through The Dark | Kalameet - The Age Of Fire) that are actually DarkS inspired and a HipHop Song that use the DeamonS Shrine Musik as sample (Windmill - Bring Out The Sun)
I love how you can feel the pressure when Gwyn questions the scales of the priest or the deformities the Witch's son had. And when you think the moment was tense enough, the Witch speaks and incinerates the lesser forms present, only with her fury. There's some power metal shit going on here
Gwyn finds the Demons as corrupt For they remind him of Dragons While the Witch is insulted by not only his claims, but his rude comments towards her son
In my opinion, it could still be good and you put effort into it to create something great. And then still, it's practice after all. I get what you mean, though. I can only draw the same stuff over and over and it looks good to people, but I really can't do much. So if you're better than that, nothing's holding you back to at least draw fanart if it's fun for you etc. ;)
This game is so powerful. The unheard stories, forgotten history and the unseen lands. Ricardo's submission was out of this world, Jane killed it...all the submissions deserve a prize Vaati. The next DS competition should be a short film, 1st place has set the bar that high with his story telling.
The first place spot really made me realize just how good Dark Souls is as a fantasy. The entire lore of The Age of Fire is of the same quality of Cultural Mythology. There's so many themes that resonate with us and can literally change our lives once we experience it. And that's just with the first game
@@American-knight-hawk I also have to say that Izalith sitting there... Anyone else would shudder Gwyndolin(I assume) was like running towards his godmother then he saw her and went to hide behind gwyns robes
Miyazaki before this video: “We just don’t have enough ideas for Dark Souls 4, so we are ending it at Dark Souls 3.” Miyazaki after this video: “Ahem... We are deciding to get to work on Dark Souls 4”
I think, they have so many ideas infact. What about Aldrich's dream of deep seas? And that unexplored continent, which I think Vendrick mentioned, if memory serves well. These two topics would really serve well for a Dark Souls 4.
@Danny BRITZMAN Honestly, i think a dark souls game set in the new world without fire, would have most interesting implications, and i would love to see it.
What I would love really, is that if they made Bloodborne acessable on Xbox One two. I have an Xbox One X, but Bloodborne is only playable on PS, so I'm really sad😭😭
I was a little sad when Izalith only had 1 entry in the chart. But then when we actually walked thru it it really blew me away. Amazing story telling, and amazing details, and just the hundreds of hours all these artists poured into all these pieces really shows.
For some reason seeing the entries in these art competition always makes me emotional. Maybe it's because it's sad that these beautiful works aren't fully fleshed-out game pieces, or maybe it's just because they are so beautiful, probably both. It's wonderful. Seeing the passion these artists have for their work is heartwarming.
The words that most came to my mind while seeing all of these pieces: damn dude... damn Truly breath taking art, just shows the commitment of the dark souls community to these games and to each other, i know a small comment isn't much but right now it's the best i can do so here goes thank you to all the artists who gave me so many beautiful pieces to lose myself just staring at them, and thank you to vaati for hosting this competition, you guys are the reason dark souls is so special

Amazing how izalith was depicted less like a city but more like an entire country in a whole world of it's own. Very very creative. Loved seeing all of these.
This felt so incredibly moving and enlightening, I could only imagine what could happen if something of this magnitude could be made for the horrific and Lovecraftian lore of of Bloodborne, it gives me shivers.
Well yeah sure but I think these paintings were commissioned? So he actually owns the art as he bought it but I dunno there may be some clause there to be fair to the artists but then again if it was already bought its all good.
It’s been months since I watched this video and the art submission of Catarina by Nolan is still in my head, it was so impactful and so perfect, such a playful feel, so gorgeous! I honestly wish that this art had placed higher, the only piece that I still remember in amazing detail!
it feels like a very happy place, which is something dark souls could use more of, genuinely happy locations. even majula and the firelink shrines aren't happy, they're stagnant.
The man not only made a decent length story he picked a place no one would think about and made the worst boss in the souls borne existence actually interesting.

that 1st place winner, love the attention to detail and lore, no wonder he beats all the other artists.. but I have to say, that Catarina city is SO GOOD, the laid back and chill vibe from the knights are something you kinda picture when seeing them in game.. LOVE the idea of putting everything on a book for others to gawk and admire at.. will surely be an interesting collection
Ok, the amount of effort Ricardo put into that makes me feel like the prize needed to be slightly bigger, cos holy god, was that amazing,i swear if ricardo actually exclusively made an art book, i would no doubt buy it. Also I liked pierre mareschals Courland a lot too, well im not giving an objective view, but to me that greeny color palette and the drowned feeling of that city is something soulsborne doesnt have, and somehow it fits really well too. Its morbid and weary, and i loved it, and his submission was made in a way so that it actually felt like an actual dark souls map, so in my head, the endless imagination just ran wild, so yeah, maybe not the best, BEFORE THEY WERE RUINED per se, but i enjoyed it
“And here we see Courland, which was plagued by a beast called the Soul-Feeder. Here, you see the soul well, soul shrine, and soul temple. When the citizens of Courland got out of their soul beds in the soul morning, they had a big soul baked pie of sole eyes(expensive since each fish has but one) a bowl of Soul O’s, with a hearty slice of soul bread, slathered in soul butter. They had soul speakers on every soul built corner of their soul abodes, which soulfully soulsounded the sole souliest song, Me and Mrs. Jones. At the end of the soul day, soul radio per-soul-nality, Han Soul-O, soulfully and solemnly silences soul singers so soulftly not a sole soul can hear.”
Still hoping Miyazaki would make a Berserk game, but you play as one of the new recruits of the Band of the Hawks and journey through to reuniting with Guts and Casca.
As someone who loves fantasy, i think you all understand me when i say that i was rendered speechless , astonished. really it was amazing to watch this art competition. The love and care that was put into every one of the pieces was palpable. THANK YOU VERY MUCH VAATI, THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL OF THE ARTISTS.
My God, the ones in 2nd, 1st and 6th place were incredible. The amount of worldbuilding, and backstory were insane and I really thought it was cool how 2 and 6 integrated the player character to show what it would look like in-game. Number 1 in particular just had an absolutely absurd amount of detail and work out into it. I’d love to play through all of these areas in a Dark Souls game.
I'm 100% in support of an art book for this competitions top entrants; I'd already downloaded the folder from Google Drive before I'd even gotten to the end of the video just because I wanted to explore the entries at my own pace. I'm looking forward to what could come out of this and, as always, thanks so much for facilitating these contests. The entries never cease to impress.
I gotta be honest I think the Catarina one is my personal first play, like I just want more, that's all I can say, like I want a whole mini series of this little jolly place, it looks so lovely yet so dangerous at the same time, with everyone being armored up at all times, and assassins' running about, its somewhere you'd need to be strong to live, yet somewhere you could find genuine friends and alleys, especially the visual of having a drunken brawl one night, then waking up the next morning in a cell with the same guy you were fighting and sharing a laugh with him, maybe helping him buffer out a dent in his helmet or something and sharing some soup to sober up just sounds like so much fun to me, its somewhere I'd want to live, which is not something I ever thought I'd say about a place in dark souls.
Yeah. I loved that image. Most of the places you visit in Dark Souls are relentlessly dark. Amazing, awe inspiring, but not places of joy and life. They are the places of a dying world where the last sparks of life are slowly fading and all hope with it. Now theres just husks of beings wandering through once vibrant places. Catalina looked like a still vibrant place. Dangerous, yes, and not a place for the weak. But a place where everyone in it is joyfully alive and determined to enjoy every second they can in the harsh world they live in. I found it refreshing.
looking at these really makes me wish that there was a section in one of the games where you could experience the world before everything went to hell that would have been nice
@@UstashaMe84 that certainly would not be called dark souls then..besides there won't be much to fight for as there were only the fights with the dragons and the rest is just normal and probably not enough content for gameplay though the lore would be really interesting,it's better off being a little section of a souls game than a seperate one but we probably won't get another souls game anytime soon
If fromsoft made an actual original online mmo with better mechanics than most mmos out there, I would support it. especially if they depict all of these lands.
Srikanth sanaka It would be hard to I’ll off I understand what you are saying I just wish we could some now get to see these places in an actual game. The whole concept of the game would have to change.
Did anyone catch at 23:05 that demon looking thing hanging from the building looking really similar to the count from berserk in his apostle slug form nice attention to detail to the original source material that somewhat inspired the soulsborne series
When you mentioned that artbooked I got goosebumps. This is probably the most amazing and original idea I've ever seen. Really looking forward to the release of such an anazing product.
I vote bloodborne next! I can't express how much the izaleth one impacted me. cause it's always been so hard for me to visualize what it was like it it's prime, and that was a beyond perfect take on the idea of the demon city and the mortals who lived there. Every entry was spectacular. kudos to all. what an amazing community this continues to be!
Yeah, never did I think I would be agreeing with someone who had a Ugandan knuckles pfp in 2020. I don't know about first though. It was the one who almost brought a tear to my eye. Jokes aside though, it's great to see a community known from the outside looking in as toxic and salt y, but from the inside, is secretly wholesome and all of us just dreaming and imagining the world's we were only told about in small forgotten tidbits. I love this community XD
I'm a dude in my late 20s, recently started drawing for a soulsborne project I have in mind. Yet I can't help but feel emotional by the inmense talent displayed in this competition, and extremely overwhelmed because of how much work I need to put to catch up to my imagination, who wants me to be as capable as everyone in this contest. I'm stunned by everyones work, absolutely incredible.
29:40 I love how the central glyph on that temple resembles a uterus and ovaries, really driving home the motif of birth and the womb and the maternal position of the Witch.
These were incredible across the board. The amount of love, care, skill, and pride in every single entry is obvious - they each bleed all of that and more - and all of the shown entries captivated me from the first moment their work was shown. I would *love* an art book with all of this stuff in it, and adore the way that people envisioned these places. Standouts for me within the top 10 - just from inference and the amount shown in their particular works: 6th "Courland" by Pierre Mareschal The verticality, the wide vistas, the hints throughout that things are much darker than they appear at first, and the way that the atmosphere visibly goes from free yet orderly to chokingly constrained and wild the closer that you get to Acrach. Dipping below the clouds for the first time I imagine would be an inverse Anor Londo - you're on an elevator going down, and then it opens up in a huge open doorway, and all you can see is the city below with that glow deep in its belly and the shadows almost seeming to crowd it instead of fleeing from it before you get too low to see over the walls. Siel having that open air bit for backing lighting when you find him lends some nobility to the scene, and has that aspect of an important thing being lit from on high - even if it's extremely diluted. Upon reaching even the plaza access street (and I imagine the blocked intersection before it would have these properties amplified), the shadows seem like they're *clawing* to snuff out the light from the flame...or trying to resolidify into the 'imprisoned' Acrach. The plaza itself being aflame and him being such a focal point even in the widest view *reeks* of wrongness - even before you get a look under the hood. All of that's before even touching on the architecture and the more symbolic aspects of it. I just love this work. 5th "Catarina" by Nolan Everything about this work encapsulates just what the Catarina knights *are*, from the ones we encounter. Even Sieglinde, though mournful about her parents, doesn't seem like she'd be particularly out of place in that image - though a stripped-down, greyed-out alleyway with the regular joviality slightly apart from her would be a mentally distinguished difference. Not something especially dark, but only melancholy, and somewhat out of sync (opposed to jarring spikes and the blacks/dark greys of lower Oolacile). The technical side of Nolan's piece reminds me quite a lot of some of the art that drew me in when I was younger and discovering some of the fictional worlds I still adore to this day, and I appreciate the layering of simplicities to show so much on the side of shade and lighting whilst bleeding the warmth that the piece depicts - and I personally believe it enhances that in doing so. 1st "The Dawn and Dusk of the Age of Chaos" by Ricardo Emig Everything that I could have possibly put into words, you already did, Vaati. That is simply beautiful.
A purely genuine message to everyone who competed in not only this challenge, but the other 2 as well. Your works of art are simply the most moving and breathtaking things I've ever seen. I know that it isn't easy to tell a story without even really telling someone anything, but just by showing them. All of these art videos so far have brought me to tears simply because of the way they weave a tale so effortlessly. I'm someone who is passionate about few things but those few things I am very insistently passionate about, and while I do feel that way about Dark Souls as a whole the real passion I have here is art. To get the opportunity to see how things like this are created, when I know for a fact I cannot create them myself. It moves me in such a way that I want to be better. I don't want to learn to win some competition or to make money from it, I want to learn so that I can make people feel the way I feel now, just overwhelming joy and child-like wonder.
The hair on my arms and my beard roused up all the time... Im not really a art appreciator guy but im astonished and in complete awe with how strongly the imagery struck me... specially number 2... First place made me feel so terrible yet so welcomed... strong vibes indeed, congrats to each artist.
The bit in Ricardo’s Izalith where Gwyn’s light is overpowered by the Witch of Izalith reminded me of that bit in the Similirion where Melkor (the strongest being in existence) was almost killed by the giant spider. But that entry was unbelievably good, the music playing at the start of the entry sounds like Vangelis, Tales of the Future from Blade Runner, made me love it even more

*cram all them together and bam, dark souls 4*
TheGreen Tortise but he isn’t Gwyn’s son
@@es-rh8oo i think its pretty clear NK is Gywn's first born and solaire is not related to gywn from dark souls 3
That Catarina one is just such an incredible piece of art. It just fills you with joy just by looking at it.
Its like the artist captured the spirit of Catarina in that one scene. So cool.
I was thinking magnetic termites. Close though
No mistakes, just happy accidents. (unless people did their homework and it was no accident)
@Zen Cloud you are an awesome artist and words can't describe enough your talent. I wish you the best for the incoming future ;)

It also looks like the ant hill structures of the chimera ants from HxH
I never realised how much Gwyndolins crown looked like a sunlight maggot.
.....Why would you do this to me...
Gwyn, the sunlight, left Anor Londo.
It was left to Gwyndolin to keep the sun burning in Anor Londo via illusion...could he have drawn inspiration from the sunlight maggot for his headpiece? Is his headpiece just a golden sunlight maggot? Idk...cool to think about though.
wait...
....WHAT.
I have to sleep at some point tonight, and my brain can't handle connections like this right now. How could you say such a thing?!
The souls community is one of the most dedicated communities I’m proud to be apart of
DS3 2016 yet the community still so vibrant.

"Bystanders who had not yet ascended to immortality were incinerated by the impact of her fury" is the most raw depiction of power i've ever heard and really humbled my view on how powerful the gods in Dark Souls are
Yeah by the time we fight Gwyn nito and izalith they were all severely weakened. At their height they’d be unbeatable
Sounded straight out of a xianxia novel
@@davidepanceri8192 xianxia?
@@Paulito-ym4qc Some sort of Wuxia thing, maybe. Or perhaps they were just trying to say Wuxia.

Rajat Sharma what do you mean you don’t get art, some pieces are really obscure but these are just cool to look at, nothing to get
That, and well...hopefully you have a better appreciation for art in general, going forward. Artists are mostly responsible for all the flavor in your everyday life. The colors on clothes, buildings, ads posters, you name it. Art in general is underappreciated.
Boy do I have news for you.
Absolutely agree. I enjoy the souls games but I'm not the kind of person who can discover all the lore and such. Vaati breaking things down added volumes to the art pieces.
In the last picture, the one of Izalith... there’s a crossed out line: “Only once did someone dare question him.” The one... must be the Nameless King.

and time is convoluted, because light is time. gwyn could have met gwyndolin by manipulating time, and it is known that it's by gwyn's decree that gwyndolin be raised female due to the nature of his magic. so, while this izalith scene is unlikely to have occurred, partially because gwyndolin probably wasn't born yet, gwyn did probably meet all of his children at least once.

I love the fact that he kind of combined Gwyn's aura with that of Griffith. It's so terrifyingly beautiful and magnetic.
I love how the izaleth piece is told from the perspective of the child who I first thought was the nameless King
I thought the same, until that one line.
Honestly that was my first thought too! Whether the story is told through the future Nameless King or Gwyndolin, its quite a unique perspective given their importance to the Souls universe and yet we hardly ever hear them speak if at all
It somehow felt like a "Prepare to Cry" for me too
Also, I love how the narration implies the Firstborn of Gwyn was the first to also question Gwyn, but had even that reference struck out.
I though it was a hint at solaire, given his interest in the bug.
Me too, with the parallels drawn with him and the Ceaseless Discharge, and the sun maggot that later consumes Solaire, a follower of the Nameless King.

Not true at all actually. As a person who is active in the modding community, we don’t actually have the tools yet to completely customize maps yet.
Came here to mention this but you summed it up beautifully. I'd love to watch a tele series set there.
I kinda wanna be a prisoner in Catarina now lol
Must admit I worked my ass off for this competition, and was really hoping to get a good spot. But seeing the top 10 put so much thought and care into their pieces is amazing. I don't know why, but seeing these made me get teary-eyed and emotional.
Its morbid and weary, and i loved it, and his submission was made in a way so that it actually felt like an actual dark souls map, so in my head, the endless imagination just ran wild, so yeah, maybe not the best, BEFORE THEY WERE RUINED per se, but i enjoyed it
Vaati: Pick who deserves tenth place
Me: I'm not strong enough to choose
This is the best comment to ever exist
Ricardo truly deserves to be first Plus I like how he used a berserk apostle.
first thing i notice
Still hoping Miyazaki would make a Berserk game, but you play as one of the new recruits of the Band of the Hawks and journey through to reuniting with Guts and Casca.
@@teoigi3247 so wat ur saying is....we gonna die at the end?
@@kiro253 yeea
@@kiro253 yeah, dying while protecting Guts. Then play as a demon on the way to becoming an apostle, twisted right?
God Do I love Vaati, completely adds so much love to why I love soulsborne(and sekiro)
soulsbornekiroing* there you go
@@finalfantasyenjoyer damn, rather just call it the MiyazakiVerse
Might as well call it Soulsekiro, since he gave up on Bloodborne for some reason.
@@varunchaturvedi2581 Won't be a Sekiro 2 as well though, so that doesn't make sense either.
*Fromverse
17:57 the king is wearing the Covenant of Artorius ring. That is a really cool detail!
Nice eye my sunbro!
Man, Izalith is the last place I expected to get dug into so deeply and it easily makes me super interested in the place.
Is it just me or is his voice the most relaxing thing ever?
believe me we all feel the same way about the voice.
"It's ruined me for trying to listen to other UA-camrs do Souls lore. Vaati is melted butter to my ears. (That's a compliment.)"
It is
I love that Indiemaus just makes fun of him for putting him to sleep
They need to make a prequel game where you visit these lands before the doom. I’ve always thought this as well.
Thats why a prequel would be a perfect way to finalize the series.
12:35 that looks like Estus Soup to me!
The fork lodged in the shield mimicking the spiked shields the knights use is also a great detail
Did anyone catch at 23:05 that demon looking thing hanging from the building looking really similar to the count from berserk in his apostle slug form nice attention to detail to the original source material that somewhat inspired the soulsborne series
Literally scrolled thru to see if anyone else saw it
WOOOO SOMEONE ELSE
When you mentioned that artbooked I got goosebumps. This is probably the most amazing and original idea I've ever seen. Really looking forward to the release of such an anazing product.
I vote bloodborne next!
I can't express how much the izaleth one impacted me. cause it's always been so hard for me to visualize what it was like it it's prime, and that was a beyond perfect take on the idea of the demon city and the mortals who lived there.
Every entry was spectacular. kudos to all. what an amazing community this continues to be!
I vote bloodborne too And Im happy this community isn't as the DS gamming community
"what do you guys think about an artbook?"
Well, that shouldn't be even a question. Damn, an artbook would be so amazing!
The catarina image srsly put a genuine smile on my face. For me personally its number 1
Standouts for me within the top 10 - just from inference and the amount shown in their particular works:
6th "Courland" by Pierre Mareschal
The verticality, the wide vistas, the hints throughout that things are much darker than they appear at first, and the way that the atmosphere visibly goes from free yet orderly to chokingly constrained and wild the closer that you get to Acrach.
5th "Catarina" by Nolan
Everything about this work encapsulates just what the Catarina knights *are*, from the ones we encounter.
1st "The Dawn and Dusk of the Age of Chaos" by Ricardo Emig
Everything that I could have possibly put into words, you already did, Vaati. That is simply beautiful.
I kept saying to myself: no don't leave this image, i want to look closer and longer!
This might sound crazy, but you can actually pause the video or check out the link to the artwork
Pause button:Am I a joke to you?
A book of the top 20 art entry’s sounds like a legendary idea! I would be hyped to see a Bloodborne art event in the future as well
The hair on my arms and my beard roused up all the time...
But that entry was unbelievably good, the music playing at the start of the entry sounds like Vangelis, Tales of the Future from Blade Runner, made me love it even more
Do we know what the music for the izalith entry is?
Mo Christie I’d love to know the music too, I wish Vaati posted music credits.
I've been excited for this video for a while.
Catarina 11:18 was my favourite but the last one had me Joy! emoting.
