Sir Guy the Seeker | English Folklore

- Welcome to my channel! Here you’ll find folklore from across the British Isles. In this video I look at one of my favourite tales... and one of my favourite places. Dunstanburgh Castle is a beautiful ruin on the Northumberland coast, but unquiet spirits are found within. A Knight by the name of Sir Guy seeks shelter here one night, only to be faced with the hardest question of his life...

This is one of my favourite tales, and in one of my favourite locations. If you enjoy please do share! Some of my next videos will be some Irish and Scottish tales, filmed on location in the Hebrides!

I love castles, because beyond those moss-covered stones lies a history that may have been lost in time, or newly discovered. Such a fascinating species we are!
Thank you, Duke, excellent work! :)
We must keep these tales ALIVE! Thank you
Indeed!
Indeed we must!
Agreed 👍
Keep up the good work folklore should be shared and cherished.
Cheers Jamie
Reminds me of the guy who said he wandered into King Arthurs cave but made a similar mistake and fled the cave, never to find it again...
Indeed 👀
The tale of alderley edge?
Thank you great Duke for expanding my breadth of knowledge of our beautiful European culture & tradition!
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed!
Great video! I wish works like this got as much attention as the clickbait nonsense that popularly passes as 'folklore' content.
Brilliant footage and my favourite legend too. I have been here several times after midnight and on one occasion i heard an old woman cackle as i was going up the stairs in the pitch black. It took me by surprise as i had not heard of such a spirit but when i got home and googled it, there used to be an old woman who lived in the ruins of the castle, probably the room that still has a locked door on it now.
Dude, coming back again to tell you this is the coolest narration of this story in existence.
Thank you again for making this amazing video public once more!
Excellent! So many great tales from the lands between the Tweed and the Tees sadly rarely spoke of! Wonderful to see them kept alive and told to folk, such as myself, who would otherwise be unaware of them.
Got to be canny careful on Dunstanburgh beach rocks they’re skitey af ...my backside can verify this... twice 👀
Still my favorite one that I go back to for a listen. Great job telling this.
Oh, my!
Another great tale. Heading up to Alnwick with the family next week. Think this might have to be a day out. Thanks for the story. Cracking, as usual.
Brilliant old tale
Cheers mate
There are many imitations. But there is only one Duke Of Avalon!
:-)
wow I really enjoyed that tale! Please continue to make these videos. You have a great voice for it and the stories need to be told. Thank you for another great video
Hey Duke, brilliant tale, well told. Your fondness and respect for the tales shines through your voice and presentation. Really looking forward to the Irish and Scottish tales to come too. Cheers, Kitty.
That’s very kind of you to say Kitty, thank you!
And sadly I couldn’t manage to get across to the islands! But I went to the Highlands instead so still got some good video footage!
Poor Sir Guy! Hope he at least found his horse well enough.😊 Those ruins look amazing! I'd love to camp there, wonderfully atmospheric. Thanks for the story Duke.👍🏻💛
Fantastic very well told thanks 👍🏼 ✨ ✨
Reminds me of The Lady and the Tiger
So what is the moral of this tale. I probably would of taken the horn Hmmm🤔
I would refuse both. Because a sword is going to cause conflict and sorcery can be used in so many ways it is not safe either. Neither of them had done the people in there much good had they? I might have asked for his wand thing instead.
Amazingly beautiful! I'm looking forward to these wonderful videos! Thank you! ⚘
Love to see an upload from the Duke.
Castles and Ghosts. What more can you want ? Cheers mate
Will you please do some ghost stories from Walsh
Lovely video. It kept me company while I cooked.
My son enjoyed listening to it too.
This is an amazing video. Could I ask where in England do you think the best folktales come from?
Well being from the NE, I’m gonna say here haha. It’s natural for us to favour our own home. However I do think that SE England has many great tales too!
@@TheJollyReiver I think we're both biased I'm from there too.
Another excellent video :)
Is there no tourists at this castle or just a rare day? I’d love to visit one day
There were yeh but I managed to record in places when they weren’t there. I’ve camped in here before and it’s great to have it to myself
The story is almost similar to the story of Canobie Dick. Difference being that instead of being a knight he was a horse trader. The stranger also instead promised that he would be king, but he blew the horn before drawing the sword and was thrown out by a mighty gust of wind.
Its criminal that I live about an hour from this place and never knew this story until now. Why aren't we being told this in schools all over the North East? This is our heritage! Thank you for keeping these stories and traditions alive and for bringing them to us who knew no better. I homeschool my lads and we watch your videos on rainy days.
Very Albionic. Cheers, Duke.
The word 'hallucination' is a disingenuous one in respect of ghosts, in that an hallucination occurs within a person's head, but there's nothing to say that a spectral phenomenon does not itsself manifest in this way, so that seeing a phantom is both a genuine experience AND an hallucination, if that makes sense.. Anyhoo, these films are great.. Thanks so much for all the great content! 🌟👍
English?
The stories are well before the English good boy 😂
Arthur and his knights were celts not Anglos
Well-paced, amazing footage and narration. The story really came alive for me. Excellent
Thank you Gordon, another lovely old folklore story. Take care mate ❤️
Cheers mate, you too!
Jolly, this is the most saddest and extremely tragic love story, i have ever seen 🥺😱😢😭
You never get a lot of knight ghosts being spotted
What happened to the video of the brown man of the moors? @thejollyreiver
Always love it. I should come up and visit you.
Another great tale! I perceive some fairy tail elements within this one. It reminded me of a line from the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The crystal coffin with a spellbound maiden had a taste of Snow White, and the horn blow reminded me of the bell being rung in C.S. Lewis' The Magician's Nephew. Very interesting to someone who studies fairy tales and children's lit.
Beautiful...
Thank you :-)
Good stuff.💛
So sad.
Great video 😃
Thank you, just subbed to your channel, looks like great content!
@@TheJollyReiver Thank you very much 😊
I love your channel. You have a great way of telling stories. It's a shame that most of the British Isles' folklore stories are not widely known. Let's change that 😊
I always love these stories!
Wonderful video and storytelling 😍❤️
Another excellent video. I really like your channel. Well done and keep up the good work. These stories and tales should be kept alive!
Very beautiful!!!
What a stupid tail.
It goes nowhere and it ends nowhere.
*tale
@@TheJollyReiver
It starts out good, has a good middle, but then someone took a knife and cut the original ending out of it and stuck this ending in....
This tale has potential but the tail is wrong. (Pun intended). Why not change it.
Thank you for posting this. We do enjoy these old stories.
Will we ever get a Q & A video with you ?
Never considered it fella. What kind of things do you wanna know?
@@TheJollyReiver Who inspired you to do UA-cam videos ? Do you find folklore from countries besides the UK and Ireland ? When you're in the Hebrides will you be doing anything on the mysterious death of Netta Fornario ? Have you ever been to Banff on the northeast coast of Scotland ? If you ever go to Banff you might want to check out Inchdrewer castle said to be haunted by the 3rd Lord of Banff and a large white dog .
I am here to find some new tales to tell my cousins
