Thanks Teri for the detailed video. I had to remove my 5th wheel and dissemble it to install the full chequer chassis plate on my Scania R470. Unfortunately the spring and plastic actuator part shot out of the housing 🙈 in my shed, could I find it, lol. I left the micro switch out put it back together and tidied up. Next day found the two parts by a miracle but didn’t have the manual to fix the spring, plastic actuator and micro switch back in, You’ve just solved that. Thanks very much. If I see you at any of the truck meetings I’ll buy you a brew. 😊
Hello Teri I am just getting into RC trucks and have just watched the vivid on the assembly of the fifth wheel. Would you mind telling me were you got the fifth wheel plate from its really nice.
The alloy part is the Truck Option Part (TROP) Tamiya 1/14 Aluminium Coupler Lever Plate 56535, it's best to search Google or eBay for the best/cheapest supplier in your area. I got mine in the UK from a supplier called TTP (Tony's Tamiya Parts) as he's an official supplier for Tamiya Spare parts.
That 5th Wheel looks just like the one that comes in me Grand Auler. And the SprinG comes with it as well. I'm glad, as I certainly don't want to have that Coupler leaning FORWARD!! 😲 Again thank you so much for a very detailed Video!
The coupler switch reduces power from the MFC to the motor when there's no trailer connected. Full power is only there when a trailer is on. You can bypass this by bridging the connection on J12 on the MFC so you have full power all the time.
@@TeriWilde Thanks Teri. I spent hours building it all to find it didn’t do anything when you press the button in the coupler. I carefully took the switch out to find the wires literally fell out of the switch. Maybe I damaged them installing the switch. Just spent hours pulling it all to bits to get the wire out of my extremely tidy loom. I tried touching the wires on the terminals and pressing the white button but still nothing. I have ordered a new compete switch & cable. I hope the MFC isn’t damaged. Everything else worked.
I lucked out and found a hobby shop only a few hundred miles away that had the servo plate for the coupler in stock. I should have it before the end of the week. They also had it for a very good price. Cheaper than I could have ordered it from the states, Hong Kong or Japan. Sometimes a guy gets lucky.
Teri, I like the idea of remote Uncoupling 5th Wheel. What I'm souring on some, are the many limitations I'm learning about the MFC! Like no Lipo Cutoff. The MFC Browns Out if using anything but a weak Servo... But mostly the limitation of only ONE Sound Set, that's not modifiable at all. I'm considering the Beier System, but it requires PC programming, which isn't the easiest. Then a UK Friend of mine told me about Servonaut. It's supposed to be plug and play, much like the MFC, but with Lipo Cutoff, Motor Braking, BEC power enough for TWO 20kg Servos (although I'm only using one for precise Steering), includes SEVEN different Diesel Engine Sounds - WITH simulated SHIFTING!! (The Beier System also has that). Plus other features, for $100 USD LESS than the MFC! Now, I'm not one to jump into things... You obviously have a lot of experience in the 1/14th Scale Semis. Have you ever heard of Servonaut? What's your opinion on it? I'd really like to know. 😉
The servonaut system is not cheaper after you add up the components and leds , it's about the same if you source out all your own leds... I have hooked up THREE high voltage, digital, coreless servos to the MFC in my Snowman truck and I have the Servonaut AirU IR trailer system in that also as it works with the MFC as it would the Servonaut sound/light components... I don't go into too much detail on advanced wiring in case some attempts it and fries 100s of $s worth on electronics... but yes, HV Digital servos are usable with the MFC units. I also use Lipo with them and have a LV Alarm in the balance lead. Sound isn't really that important because at a RC gathering, there is so much sound that it becomes "just noise" with a few turning the volume up to max just to be heard...

I'm not hastily running out and buying the first electronics system, just because one or two People said I should. I'm taking this seriously - and I've got time to think about it. I'm still considering the MFC-03... Even though it has the "wrong" Diesel Engine Sounds. I do plan on FLOODING this Rig with LEDs!! I can probably run those separately, off of one of 6 Channels. I was most worried about my 20kg Steering Servo. If it works with MFC... GREAT! One person was SURE I would need a separate BEC to run that Servo. He's a MASTER at Metal Fabrication and Scratchbuilding amazing Trailers - out of Welded Steel. 😲😲😲 But I really DOUBT his ability with electronics, judging by the MESS that his components and wiring is. Servonaut did turn out to be more expensive when all was said and done. I guess Mr. ROIIIIIIIGHT! has money to burn. It's between MFC and Beier. Thanks for your insight. I consider it valuable!
@@CarminesRCTipsandTricks I completely agree with the sound if you haven't had it and if you've got plans to go forward with your truck then go for it. There is a way to hook up your servos with the MFC if the unit doesn't like them but that's a bridge to cross when you get there, and as for all the chicken lights, you would run them via a RX controlled switch anyway. There's Graupner RX controlled switch called the SXM which I've done a video on and you'll see it's a 4 output from just 1 receiver channel giving you a whole lot of possibilities.

I'm using a FlySky FSi6 Radio, that I converted a second 2-way switch into a 3-way switch, so now I have two. One will be for shifting Gears, and I haven't decided on the other... But seeing how the switch reverses polarity in each direction, it could possibly turn on one set of lights in one direction, and another set in the other, since LEDs are Polar Circuits. I'm just spitballing here... My Father was an Electronics Engineer, and I learned much from him. My experience was in Mechanics - and Music.

@@michaelrajca6043 you need 4 proportional channels to control a MFC-01 or -03 and have 2 of them with dual rates that control J5 and J6 control leads.
@@TeriWilde thank you for the response but please in laymans terms. i am not very knowledgable with he jargon. the radio has a proportional throttle and steering and 2 more proportional knobs which i can programj to wahevr i want and i can set dual rates on the throttle and steering also. also is it easier to calibrate than the gt powe because i was unable to calibrate for some reason. i didnt have any lights connected just the 3 servos speaker and motor. would that be a problem
I used a 45 turn motor on my trucks but I still found them too fast when coupled to a trailer so I removed the wires from the micro switch and installed a separate switch to the receiver that I can control independently so now I have 6 speeds available for my transmission , it helps when I'm trying to reverse with my super b train , still a difficult task but it made a huge difference ,I didn't like the high power with the coupler switch enabled.
if you put the gear select servo on a Aux channel you would get 9 gears... servo would select 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the gearbox and the left stick side-to-side movement would give you 3 stages of electronic variances... I've done 3 of mine like that...
The coupler plate is a Tamiya TROP 56535 - TROP means TRuck Option Part which is a series of option parts specifically for the 1/14 scale trucks. Prices can vary from £11 to £25 depending on seller and seller location. they're an average of around £18 from UK sellers but if you don't mind waiting for 3 or 4 weeks for shipping from China/Japan then you could get them for around £12. There are now companies such as LESU that do a stainless steel option which doesn't look quite so chunky. Have a search on google image search for and you'll see a few different types.

yes you said you dont care for the gt power unit . i plan to return mine. can you use a radiomaster mt12 pistol grip rx for the mfc- 01 unit ?

I got it from Tony's Tamiya Parts, TTP Models, he's a biggest Tamiya Parts dealer in the UK.
you used the small end of e clip tool, try using the larger side first then spin it around
the tool is really uncomfortable to use so I don't bother with them.
