I may dabble in warm season lawn this coming season. So I have some knowledge on it. I have a perfect side strip for it. Great video Paul. I’m loving my proplugger buddy. If I do play with them I’ll get some plugs from you. I’ll have to vlog it on my channel lol.
Thanks for the video. What is the best way toget the old brown out from winter dormant el toro. I have grass growing but a lot of brown from the winter.
We need a plugger that has either four tubes about an inch apart or an eight-inch diameter tube. Till then I use my post hole diggers because these are just too small.
I spread zoysia seed then raked in and also added zoysia plugs and watered down .But 2 days later we had hard rainfall. I spread Scott's Lawn Turf starter today. Do I need to seed more zoysia grass seed over? Then can I place the straw over to protect the zoysia seed ?
It’s really early for seed but you’re definitely going to want to do whatever it takes to hold it in place until it germinates. Typically, seed is used starting in late Spring.
I already placed heavy layer of straw over complete area . 1 feed store 2 bales were long cut 9.75 ea. Another feed store I bought 2 more at 13.75 each but it is a better straw finer cut straw and spreads out well when shaking it over ground
@@rockin-74ron39 that, I don’t know. Straw should be light enough to allow sunlight to warm the ground and keep erosion to a minimum all while helping the soil to retain a little moisture.
I like the round plug with the extra soil and then make the receiving hole with the Pro Plugger, it's a perfect fit. Not that fond of using the Lawn Buddy and the 3 by 3 plug, the Lawn Buddy pulls out a lot of soil but the 3 by 3 plug does not have enough soil. I'm sure you know what I mean.
Thanks for the info. I was wondering how the RGS and Humic 12 would do on new plugs in bare spots. I have the same thing right at the front where it is heavy traffic and the dog goes to the bathroom all winter. It did not recover this year. Now I will start transplanting so Zoysia. I just got two boxes of Bio stimulates in yesterday.
Yep, you got it now. Water those dog spots thoroughly then paint those bare spots black with the biostim pack. Lightly water in afterwards. If you wish to plug I to the sog spots, do it before you apply the biostimulant pack.
I don't live at that house any more but when I moved it was Fantastic. That entire yard came from plugs and I can share some pics of some of it if you message me on FB. We have El Toro on the website now amd Compadre coming soon. Coupon code: $10off
Yes, I cut off top growth. All the trays stacked tightly, side by side is about 1000 ft². I use a reel mower to trim it and also have some grass shears to get the edges. Pgr helps minimize top growth and focus on everything else. Don't use a string trimmer or hedge trimmer...you'll learn the hard way.
What do you think about sprinking something like Miloragnite down in the hole before inserting the new plug? This is something I've always done, but am wondering if I have been wasting my time and Milo?
I'm sorry this is so late! I must've missed the notification... Milo is fine to add but it is going to be a slow release and will take hot weather for it to work efficiently. I recommend a 1:1:1 ratio of npk or a starter fert.
That would be a personal preference. Sod has a very high expense and a lot of ground prep but is an instant lawn. Plugs are cheap, less prep but take a lot of time to fill in. Once again, money vs time.
Aftsr some research, Zeon is patented and trademarked and cannot be propagated or advertised. There are some grasses that I can sell in plugs but I do not have any at the moment.
Visit my facebook page @zoysiaplugs. I moved into another home a week ago and am starting the turf for plugs all over again. It looks like maybe July before I'm ready but I will have a much larger selection to chose from.

@@NCGrassPlugs I have been looking at an add by Zoysia Farm Nurseries they have 600 plugs for $50 + $18 shipping. My question is what do you know about them and what would 600 of your plugs cost me? Thanks

Scalp it, mow it as low as possible without hitting the dirt.

@@larrywisnewski8424 zoysia re-grows from the ground. You could burn or scalp dormant material since it will not green back up.
We used RGS, Hydroplex and Hydretain after we put zoysia plugs in. Now do we ever use that again?
When do we use/buy the grass starter 10-10-10?
You can use RGS every month during the growing season and Hydretain once or twice during Summer.
All fertilizer should wait until Late Spring.

Thank you for this video. So very helpful. Mid NC here. How little sun can they thrive in per day?
The most shade tolerant zoysias are advertised with needing at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day. I'd say 6-8 for a good looking lawn.
