- Felix Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" in C major, written in 1842, is one of the best known of the pieces from his suite of incidental music (Op. 61) to Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. It is one of the most frequently used wedding marches, generally being played on a church pipe organ.

1858 - The Wedding March by Felix Mendelssohn is played at the marriage of Queen Victoria's daughter, Victoria, and Frederick III of Prussia, and becomes a popular wedding processional.
Why is everyone copy and pasting this?
@@Therizinosaurus Why is everyone copy and pasting this? that's what Frederick was wondering
@@aplitechfoundation8653 ???
Th u for this historical fact🤔
Actually is usually recessional or exit march as opposed to processional or entrance for which Wagner’s march from Lohengrin is frequently played
( “ Here comes he bride”)
I've never actually realized how wonderful this piece is
true banger
3:12 when the trumpet comes back in is such a good moment
When you hear it played by a full orchestra, it definitely does sound much more like a product of its time. It honestly sounds like something that could have been composed by Haydn or Mozart
Same here 😭😭😭
Absolutely
I love Felix so much! He was such an awesome man!

Mendelssohn was a wonderful man and a great musician. His "Scottish" symphony may be the best thing anyone ever did for Scotland! He discovered Bach, after the music of that genius had fallen into obscurity. He was a Hebrew Christian and apparently not jealous of people, a rarity in the competitive world of the arts.
the beginning always reminds me of that Rocky song
Me, to :) ;)
Ilija Gavrilovic ee brt sta ima
Bill Conti the composer of the Rocky Theme was probably inspired by this song.
im yes in good;)
Reminds me of gustav mahler 5th symphony
The transition from Mendelssohn’s wedding march to Fucik’s entry of the gladiators was so smooth!
i’ve heard this everywhere but who was going to tell me this piece is a literal masterpiece
Nobody?
This piece is a literal masterpiece! :D
I never knew this piece of music was actually a legitimate work of art.
Welcome to the wonderful world of legendary Baroque/Classical/Romantic pieces! There's a reason Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt, Mendelssohn, Wagner, & more are in the history books. Keep digging; it gets bigger, crazier, weirder, & better the deeper you go!
I just thought it was that tune from the Little Einsteins 😭 Also, I think this is the oldest comment I've ever seen on youtube.
@@BaldPerspective who among these is your favorite? Whom should I hear as a beginner? Btw I like Tchaikovsky. Also which is your favorite piece?
@@ganh222 JS Bach is my favorite.
The "big league" composers everybody knows (Bach, Handel, Hayden, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Wagner, etc.) are def not bad places to start. I also really love film scores, & think a lot of the big film composers are great as well (Korngold, Steiner, Hermann, Williams, Silvestri, Powell, & Zimmer immediately come to mind).
If I had to pick a favorite piece, I'd either go with Bach's "Little Fugue" or the first movement to Beethoven's 5th Symphony. I'm also really partial to Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro."
Yeah, same here, I thought it's just appeared out of nowhere, out of thin air
Favorite tune of divorce lawyers .

Music genius...indeed a world classic....I can listen to this for as long as I live.
I've always heard this masterpiece a lot and never realized how grand and soothing it sounded.
What an absolutely EPIC MASTERPIECE that will live forever as long as humans live and celebrate love!
I Just learned that he composed this part because he really loved Shakespeare's Midsummer Nights Dream. This wedding music is for the marriage in the play! Thats amazing.
Marriages between Theseus and Hippolyta, Lysander and Hermia, and Helena and Demetrius.
Wagner would have hated the idea that Mendelssohn wrote the only other wedding march as famous as his.
Wagner also hated Jews, so.....his opinions don't matter.
+Natalie Shonk haha
Wagner's piece has fallen out of favor recently. His piece has been replaced by Jeremiah Clarke's "Trumpet Voluntary", also called "The Prince of Denmark March", as well as several others.. Mendelssohn's is still hanging in there. We got married in 1969 and we did Clarke on the way in and Mendelssohn on the way out. We may have been ahead of the game and didn't realize it.
Natalie Shonk So did Adolf Hitler, but his opinions mattered...way too much
Fuck you.

Amarildo Junior You do know that if it wasn't for God. There would be no Atheist. You don't believe in God, Right.

And if it wasn't for God, we wouldn't have the devil. And the devil is (d)evil. So God is the creator of evil.
Would it not be a good world without god and thus evil.
You do believe in God, right?
+Amarildo Junior Don't get addicted to that one short line of music. You'll sign away half of everything you own to it. Some people think the be all and end all is that walking down the aisle (ok...the central passage way) wearing an over-the-top white wedding gown. It's not.

180 years passed and this song is still a banger.
All of Mendelssohn's music for "A Midsummernight's Dream" is unbelievably superb. I would LOVE to see a performance of the play with a full orchestra playing the full score. Anybody know of such a thing?
Felix is very underrated
Fun story: My sister's colleague has chosen this song for her wedding and showed it to her fiance. His response: "That's the song I once got high to with my friends"
She had severe meltdown for a day
Beautiful piece!

What a beautiful song! We learn something new every single day! Thank you God!
How many lives have been ruined by this song?
BRILLIANT and so true. Boys, if you are standing at the alter and standing next to your wife/future parasite and you hear this shit song, get ready for your future alimony/child support payments. More than 50% of you are FUCKED!
Your life is more likely to get ruined by the Scherzo rather than the Wedding March from A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Marc Restivo, Many lives have been ruined by egoism not by this song 😊
You ever paid for 10 years+ alimony before for a wife you just left you when she went to a high school reunion and feel in love with a old flame and you never saw it coming? And now, having fought hard and worked your whole life; is now being told what you can and can't do and how much money you have to pay her by a person in a black robe in a family court? If not, shut the hell up. You're a moron. Especially when MORE than 50% of marriage end in divorce. If there was road more than 50% fatality on it, they would close the fucking road down. But marriage is okay because of Jesus I guess. Don't step to a MGTOW with your nonsense.
Dont say that comments.....But I dont know why I laugh a lot........
I’ll be sacrificing them in your honor.

So wonderful 😍.
To the best of my knowledge, lyrics had not been written, neither in the German that Meister der Musik Felix Mendelssohn spoke nor the English in which William Shakespeare had dramatized the comedy "A Midsummer Night's Dream," for Herr Mendelssohn's "Wedding March In C Major."
Anyone who knew of such lyrics in EITHER language, with or without English translations in case of any GERMAN lyrics, and could prove that they were indeed correct was welcome to post them, and thereby prove me to be mistaken.
No one:
Quincy: Playing this music to wake up Princess Bassoon

Mendelssohn: "Eureka, a masterpiece! I'm the king of the wedding march!"
Wagner: "Over my dead body!"
Chopin: "Ah, yes, a dead body. Magnifique." /begins furiously penning a funeral march/
Mendelssohn and Wagner: "What?"
Chopin: "What?"
Mendelssohn:"Actually..."
Wagner:"Come to think of it..."
