Learning Front End Development is hard and many people fail along the way. I am gonna share with you what I would do differently If I had to learn it again. As a junior programmer, you want to maximize your time and be effective. You can learn from my mistakes and become a developer way quicker than I did.
Amongst the most direct and clear cut roadmaps I've seen so far in my research. Thank you for this!
This guy is 100% legit right, we can learn all these stuffs for free from UA-cam, but most videos are tutorials, crash courses, its not structured well, or very organized or its not something that takes us from level to level like we would get from Udemy or Treehouse, we would easily get lost and would take us many years if we only depend on it. Personally, I believe UA-cam is best only for basic skills, jumpstart and for developers who already have a job that needs some reference.
Definitely. Thanks for watching!
The idea is to use these videos foe guidelines on knowledge to where to learn the skills, what platforms to use and tips.
Without good plan, even you build a dog house, it will be collapsed before you finish it.
So how do you recommend we move further than UA-cam?
@@marty336 hello, have you reviewed ODINs Project before, its what i am currently using, I'd like your thoughts on it
i dipped my toes into HTML and CSS years ago.. and recently dove into JS. I'm so glad you described your experience the way you did.. I feel like I'm retracing and spending 4x the 'time required' for each section. You've given me a lot of confidence to keep going, i'm glad my confusion and backtracking isnt just me being stupid/incompetent.
I feel the same way. I earned a cert in Web Design back in 2015 when HTML5 was new. Never did anything with html, java or css, and now I'm back-tracking to learn everything again. My confidence level was in the toilet back then and it took this long to recover. Now I'm reviving my interest in order to find a better paying position. This was a good video!
@@PomSptz same here, i tinkle with it many years ago lol now im back on it and full force
Love front end developing - found this video because I want to get back into it. This is an excellent video for newcomers and people like me who want to re-start.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Martty! I'm just starting my front end web development and this video of yours is very helpful.
Thanks for watching!
Hey Martty , I had an interview for a bootcamp which was the final stage of the process and waiting for the result. Loved the links you shared, I didn't hear teamtreehouse before which is just the reason I subscribed to your channel !! Thank you for your great content
Thank you for watching! Good luck with the bootcamp!
Great video, man. This was exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks!!
Thanks man for your advice and help,
We really appreciate it
Thank you very much for this! Your advice has really enlightened me
Damn incredible video for beginners. But for me, someone who’s got a decent curriculum set up for myself, this video brings some really good clarification on why I have it set up the way I do. The bootstrap mention really helped! Thanks man
Love your videos my friend.you are honest and authentic.keep them coming
I loved your chilld attitude. I'm beginner, just started learning HTML and CSS it's quite interesting so far! I'm aware tho about learning curve and that's eventually there's gonna be a block, but that's natural I guess. I'm "no math" person, so your video also helped me to gain faith in myself. I believe we can do it with patience and discipline.
Anyone who's starting out - good luck! I hope you'll succseed. Cheers
Hey! How are you doing so far?
@@alexandradanilevskaya553 how are you doing so far?
Great video, it's so refreshing to see honesty. No you won't become a junior front developer in just 3 months but this will help speed it up
Thank you so much for your advice, as for me, am going in the direction of cloud and I want to become cloud engineer but cloud engineers work alot on website so I decided to learn concepts of Web development. I hope am doing the right thing.
Straight to the point. Thank you
One thing about this dude, he is very realistic...subbed already

Nice video mate! I didn’t know you had a UA-cam channel, well done 🙌🏻👍🏻
Heyy! Yea just for a fun haha! Thanks anyway! Let me know when we gonna hit the gym 🙌
Thanks Marty! It's really useful for me at this time.

For sure u helped me alot and if i ever found anyone struggling to how to become a front end developer this is the first video i will send for them , thnx alot and hope the best for you and for everyone 😊
Thank you for your advice. I will be checking out your references.
You are welcome! Hope it was helpful!
I Love you Marty, so honest!
Subscribed just now. I worked in java backend and javafx. Started exploring front-end.
I just came across your video randomly , im a beginner and this video gave me new advices, thank you, please share more of your experience for beginners
I will! Thanks for watching!
Hi Martty, I stumbled on your channel and I loved how you explained the process in simple terms. I also saw the link from Team Tree House. I will start with that and I will keep you updated. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Awesome video! Thank you for the information.
Thank you for watching!
Your video was great thanks. Now, I know what to do. All the best
Thanks for watching!
I agree with everything you said with the exception of learning react at the end. I think you need to learn a ui framework/lib that is most popular in the area you’re searching for. For example where I live the demand seems to tilt for angular with a Java backend as well as some understanding of AWS. And that’s just for a junior.
This vedio was super helpful to everyone who's learning development , etc.....
Fantastic video mate
Thanks man for helping us free
Hey, Martty. Thanks a lot for the video 🙏
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for this man, very helpfull!
Thank you for a watching!
Hello, thank you for the video :D
I like how he explains the background at the beginning of the video unlike other developers. I can relate exactly how I felt when first learning about front end stuff. But with more practice I got to understand the way it works. What most developers fail to mentions however is that once you create a website for example, how do you host it.
I had to learn all about buying domains and web hosting as I was confused after I created my first website locally. I hope developers can example and teach how it works
Check out my other videos I explained how to host projects for free!
Appreciate the video, I'm looking to apply for junior positions in March/April :)
Way 2go!
Good luck!!
I’ve watched a lot of videos and one common trait to find in developers is that they are very resilient .
They are!
Thank You for this!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks man..this is what I needed...some guide and some idea of where to start..some people like me need structure..such as..step 1..go here..step 2 do this..and so on.. it's overwhelming for some people or too general when others say...ok..learn this...but how? Thanks for what you do man!
Thanks for the idea I might make video about it
Thanks Marty, great, sincere advice.. I'll take it =)
Thanks for watching!
nice video my guy keep up the good work

Hey enjoyed your video, Keep it up! found your video and it is exactly my plan and live in asia hopefully . When you reviewed team treehouse did you do courses or the techdegrees that they offered?
Hey Jose, thank you! I have not done the techdegree. I just went through the Javascript & React section. Really liked how it is explained and also, the way how they teach!
This is a very helpful video.
Much appreciated 💫

Hi thanks for the video and I will definitely go through the resources you have mentioned! Also i would like to ask as a aspiring web developer I understand we should build things on our own but sometimes one can get stuck. For example when building a todo list some might not know how to implement things like deleting a todo or editing a todo. Is that okay to watch video or go through google to check hows its done and implement it into one’s own project ?
Stumbled upon your videos and thought you're really cool! One question though: which microphone are you using? It sounds so clear for your voice!
Great video !🙏

Great video - although I emphasise caution with boostrap. When interviewing for junior devs, many come in to us with a bootstrap dependency - but this doesn't fit well with our way of working and typical projects. Bootstrap may help you - and that's great. But I've never met a project where it couldn't easily be produced without bootstrap - and your understanding of what you're doing is much higher without it. Definitely take a look at JS too!
do you mean we should put more emphasis on vanilla css?
@@jake445 certainly - as all css libraries and extra still require a FULL understanding of vanilla CSS to ensure problems or bad practice don’t creep in 👍
I totally agree; being dependent on framework makes you less experienced in design and structure of building your own especially when bootstrap won’t fit into your design per say. It’s good to learn frameworks and understand how it works, what they are etc, but vanilla is best way to gain more better experience and become a professional front end developer
@@sali96 maybe also depends on quality, if a client wants a quick, cheap and not so customized website, maybe a quick setup with bootstrap will do
@@jake445 Very true - it comes down to the nature of your work - 99% of the work we do is bespoke designs for very large companies, so a framework like that would constrain the design process for us
Valuable notes, thanks for teach
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching!
i have gone through the html, css and bootstrap till now, have made few websites and i can agree that bootstrap is one of the confusing part. It have lots of classes with similar names which is quite confusing actually. Initially i get confused what class should i use here. Even the documentations available will quite confuse you and you will start loosing interest in some point. But i managed to understand their uses and purposes. One thing i also realised in this process that you don't need remember every classes and property but you should know what to implement where referring the documentation. Sometimes i do mess up while practicing but it also clears my doubts and gives me clarity. Can't wait to get my hands on with Javascript.
Good luck and thanks for watching!
Have you finished everything in front-end development? Have you found a job?
Cením a zdravím dalšího čecha co se rozhodl natáčet v angličtině 😄
Thank you! 😄

Greetings Marty. I'm studying to become a backend dev but started learning html/css/Js first so that I can of course have a grasp of frontend. Should I dive deeply into CSS/HTML or just know the basics of Bootstrap ( I have finished with the basics of HTML/CSS.)
Should I learn deeply JS for backend or should I focus on learning another language (C#, Java, Ruby, Python, PHP)?
Good luck with you learning! I would learn JavaScript and then python if it was me!
@@marty336 Τhanks for the response Marty, I wish you grow your channel even larger.
Hello Marty! I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. How many months did it take you to learn all of these until you started applying for jobs?
It was 6 months but I believe I started to apply for jobs earlier! Thanks for watching
I love the wallpaper of your desktop☺️
Thanks
great video!!! are you going to make videos on how you ended up working remotely? and tips on getting visas etc
I will! Thanks for watching!
most realistic explanation video.
Thanks for watching!
An important part of building websites is testing and documentation like readme, connotations etc. You can’t just make a website and call it a day.
not good with math but good as a front-end developer yeah go ahead, I wanna see you in the future
Value content brother
Awesome video! What is realistic first salary for someone starting from absolute 0? Sorry, I am trying to understand all the aspects before jumping into this.
thanks brother i just joined the train
nice video... keep it up
JavaScript is kind of easy for me fo learn since I've already done a 12 hour video of Java. I recommend that to anyone. I took notes in a notebook on everything and there was even a few practice projects like snake game and clock program and things like that.
Where did you go to learn Java?
@@ytwizzleI learned from channel mamed Bro Code
Hey there! I’m about to take a course to learn the basics. Do you need state-recognized certificate, or just a simple certificate is enough, which shows what skills you got from the course?
"...endless loop".... now you got it!
Thank man for watching!
hey mate , what skillshare courses/instructors do you recommend? the ones that helped you learn programming & web dev.
great sharing man! i am following the same path as you. Are you currently working in UK?
Yes in working in the UK. Good luck!!
Thank you for your advices, how much months you needed to learn javascrip?
Hi Marty, thank you for this extremely helpful video.
I have a question in terms of learning code. Is there a daily limit you should set so you don't overtrain?
E.g. No more than 6 hours a day spent learning code because quality is better than quantity?
Or can you just go for as long as you want till you've hit your limit?
Thank you.
Hello. I was wondering, when someone wants to make a site go online, he/she needs to pay for the site's hosting and for it's domain name. So when you are creating the site for this person, is it on you to take care of these payments?
If not, how does it work, and do you have any payment needed as the web developer?
You can host static websites for free using something like netlify, github, firebase or heroku. Google cloud platform and AWS also offer a certain amount of free credits. I think you have to pay for domain name though unless you're fine with the auto-generated ones
@@AhmedOsman-ch4oq oh okay.
But imagine you're getting a paid domain name for someone your working for only temporarily, what should you do knowing that domain names have a monthly costs and not permanent ones?
cause you surely won't pay their costs forever...
@@ez-fr2mz just tell him and make him pay
@@ez-fr2mz The job of the front-end developer is to simply (ha!) translate a visual design into functional html/css/js. If you're designing the website, configuring it (domain, ssl certs, backend networking), or dealing with finances beyond that of your own wages....your role extends beyond that of a front-end developer.
Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
I'm watching this video without volume cause I already feel some sort of stress cause I'm studying Java but learning JS by myself just incase
*Question* Hi. This is an extremely helpful video as I now know the exact steps that I can take because I could't decide the sequence for myself. Just a small question. I am currently in the middle of learning HTML and Javascript and according to your video I should learn JavaScript after I build a project with bootstrap. Will it be problematic for me if I learn HTML, CSS and JS together and then move to building projects?
Of course not it’s my opinion how I would do it but if you learn html, css, JavaScript and then build something with it it’s great! The idea is to have great projects so you will stand out on the interview. Good luck!
@@marty336 Understood and agreed!😊👍🏼
Hey bro.. thanks 🍻
Thanks for watching!
Hi, first time came across your video. Am starting on this journey, doing course on Udemy. You sound quite encouraging.
So you got hired when you knew html, css, bootstrap and java ? Without any experience? Just with portfolio? Where in the UK are you? Am also here.
Yes! No primer experience I was working in finance before so completely not related to programming 😃 I learned HTML, CSS, Boostrap and JavaScript that’s what you need. If you are in based in London you might need React as well. I am working in Birmingham at the moment
Right now I'm also studying to be a frontend developer (self-taught) and from what I've seen on the internet and senior videos, just for taking a Ucademy course or any other, they won't hire you, you have to start programming for months doing projects some simple some complicated,
1 to feel comfortable programming different things
2 of the projects you have choose the best and most you like and put them in your portfolio, especially one big and complicated (the most important of all projects)
my recommendation is that when you have a base on html, css and js, you spend a few months programming only with this and once you feel very comfortable with this you start with react and bootstrap, BUT I repeat I'm still studying and I have no work experience, so this is just a recommendation and how I'm doing it
@@marty336 And they hired you without any experience, just with portfolio? I am in North East, in Newcastle, doing Udemy course., finishing CSS. Still hard to beleive that it will be possible to find a job without any experience. But i hope so. At the moment am just studying. Thank you for your video, it inspired me more to keep going.
Awesome content, please what brand is your monitor ?
I believe it’s Lenovo ultra wide monitor but I would not buy this one the resolution is not great.
Thank you
Thanks for watching!
from your experience, do they use windows or mac at work? I've never used mac before and Im worried. Do they let you choose or company choose for you?
6:00
An e-commerce store, exactly what I'm doing right now
Amazing good luck!
If you're gonna spend a full continuous month(or even two months) on HTML and CSS, don't. Try to "sprinkle" those sessions in between JavaScript sessions. You'll forget a good chunk of what you learn and you'll be bored out of your mind studying a single aspect of web development, which goes for JS too. The odin project does a good job keeping the courses diversified.
Yes Odin project is really good!
When did you finish Team Treehouse? How long after you finished treehouse did it take for you to get your first web developer job?
I think I spend like 3 months on threehouse, it’s 100% worth the money. I could see my progression once I was learning there. It took me 6 months to get a job
Did you do a Techdegree? If yes, which one?
Hey martty it's relieving to hear you had a hard time with javascript too, im in the same spot right now where i'm having a lot harder and longer time understanding js compared to when i was learning html/css. what are some things that helped u understand js better?
learn algorithmms, it will make js 10 times easier and simpler
I agree algorithms are good to learn you will pick up js quicker. Although it’s just practice doing it over and over again until you will get it!
What's the thing that is being most difficult to you? I am curious
@@ismailmimouni8459 what do you mean by learn algorithms?
@@sali96 by algorithms, I think they mean functions and refer to them in cycles....
function calcRectArea(width, height) {
return width * height;
}
calcRectArea(5, 6);
calcRectArea(7, 3); and so on...
First of all I would like to thank you, I am a beginner, I have expertise in almost all the topics you have discussed and I have made some small projectors using these topics, but how do I organize my portfolio and my skills. I am worried about these
How can you be a beginner when you have expertise in js,css, html, react and bootstrap? 😮
Does the ecommerce store with Javascript have to have a backend for the portfolio, or can it just be the interactive UI that can be clicked through but not have a backend to it? Would that be enough for employers?
For a front end dev yes
Did you have to learn data structures or algorithm questions? I feel like these are typically asked in interviews.
I did not but if you want to get better job then you will need to know them
Hey where is more competition in programming or web development?
Great video. Your accent is cool, where are you from?
Thanks! I am from Czech Republic
when should i start applying for job ?? after learning vanilla JS or mid way of react?
Start mid way and in the meantime craft your skills! Thanks for watching my video!
For me after learning MERN or React, PHP and Laravel.
Hey what micro are you using in your videos?... thanks for sharing your opinion
The microphone name it’s Tonor. I got it on Amazon. I will make a video about it!
Odin project if you want structure in learning
