I was a sound man at BBC Television Centre during the 1960s and worked on this show, rigging the band and vocal mikes for Len Shorey. I'm now 83 and the shock of recognition and recall almost 60 years on gets to me more than I can say. My heartfelt thanks for this posting.
I and other listeners appreciate the good job you did! You helped make her immortal.
How wonderful....it would be lovely to hear your memories of this time James. What a fabulous time to be doing that. I have always said I wish I had been able to see the greats of this time and Ella at the top of the list.
Dear Mr. Christophers We have lived during the best of music times thanks to wonderful singers like Miss Ella. I don't fear death as much as I used to because to live in a world where "rap" music is thought of as wonderful, makes me want to throw up.
No one could have done a better job with this song, it's like she/they are sitting right here in my living room performing acoustically!! This recording will stand the test of time. Ella has been my favorite singer since I was 14 years old, an aspiring young singer I was. I've listened to this recording hundreds of times and it's always like hearing it for the first time every time. Thank you so much for your perfect pitch and tuning her mics just perfectly!

“An orphan at 15, who lived on the streets” 😱
And off she goes to became a MEGA talented singer loved by a huge mass of people. 😎🎩 hats off !!
The best ! During Ella’s 50-plus year career she recorded over 200 albums and around 2,000 songs. The best !
As a brazilian (and carioca) I usually find English versions of The Girl from Ipanema kinda goofy, they don't tend to get the spirit very well (it's more of a feel than a judgement, hard to explain). But Ella nails it, as expected! Gotta love this true queen 💙
Ella understood her song.
The most Beautiful voice ever. There were other great ones from her era, but she is unrivaled, unmatched. Thank God for giving her the voice that she had. I get chills and years of joy listening to her.
No one ever came close on the scat territory. Inspiring, musical, natural wise, innovative.... even the sax legattos she mimics, oh boy. My favorite singer that will never ever be switched up. She enters the stage dancing so sweet and gracefully shaking her head ... man a delight.
I was lucky enough to see Ella. I wish I had seen Sarah in person; Ella came with the Lou Levy trio here in Boston, I wish I could have seen her more often, but I was in school and was short of money back then. I have also seen Mel Torme and Cleo Laine.
@@tomkelly4336 Lucky you. So sad pop music shifted. I love everything about her and Karen Carpenter, when she duet with Ella, was like a dream come true. So sad they did not come out with more stuff, but Karen was in one of her worst moments in life, using effects on her voice she did not used to.
@@Wagneraspsaw Ella in 1970, Lima, Ohio high school gymnasium__ she was wonderful!! 💗🎙️🎵
One of the best singers ever, such a natural talent.
Ella Fitzgerald is considered the best singer in the world by music experts, in several aspects: diction, tuning, intonation, etc. Ella Fitzgerald is the only singer I listen to every day outside of Brazil's Singers and Singers, of course. I'm Brazilian and I live in Brazil and here we have countless wonderful Singers and Composers too. Samba and Bossa Nova are the main Brazilian musical genres known worldwide.
Sinatra...is considered the best singer in the world by music experts in diction tuning and intonation....now i wont argue with anyone that likes Ella more...because she is without question the finest female pop/jazz singer ever...
What a voice, what a lady, never be another. Just so glad I lived long enough to hear and see her. Also applause to the band.
She was the untouchable greatest singer !
What a happiness to have Ella Fitzgerald on a concert video! Just think, more than a thousand Likes, not a single dislike.
Ella in her prime. What a voice she had!
The Sun is basically shining from her voice.
nobody is like she is, was and will be in eternity 😍❤
The best singer in the world. ❤ I listen to cheer up and I also listen when I'm happy. 😂😂😂
The best ! During Ella’s 50-plus year career she recorded over 200 albums and around 2,000 songs. The best !
The great tubby hayes in the back, Ella requested tubby to be on the gig because she was such a fan of him
Ella's year began in London every January, We were so lucky to see her annually - loved this lady and the
"Songbooks" are the Tops.
The best ever !!
There are artists that represent the ultimate pinnacle of their art, they rise, shine and are never reached again. Ella is one of them. I've heard so many of "her" songs sung by others but nobody reached her understanding and presentation of that songs.
F A N T A S T I C ! ! !
She was so cool. Seen her with Count Basie. Since then in in love.
Absolutely untouchable Ella. What a singer.
Ella Fitzgerald- Vocals
Tommy Flanagan- Piano

@@Henderbeast Actually, during the first half hour it is Ed Thigpen. Gus Johnson comes in later in the program.
@@tadd1 this is a mixture of different concerts. I know that for sure.
So wonderful❤
Whoa! Incredible! What a voice!
Notice how well-behaved and reticent the audience of those times were; just clapping in appreciation without the whooping. A time when one was brought up to be respectful and to have good manners.
I was thinking the same thing, how they could be so reserved! I was expecting them all to have the same happy grin as I had when I watched this 😁
Very true ! No vulgarity, no hysteria, just deep love, admiration and respectful manners.
The greatest of them all Period…..
She was spot on in this performance [it was her night]. The voice had that crystal rock sound. She was very light on her feet and reminded me of the child like quality she has that makes her a true jewel. I don't know her background but she has that smoky Moroccan -Tunision quality to her voice also. Truly enjoyed this performance.
I was unaware of this recording. As usual, Ella was in fine voice!
The best of the best of the best of the best of the best of the best of the best of the best of the best ...... forever
I had the honor of producing Concerts by Ella in the '70's. She was a truly Remarkable Human Being.
Beautiful Ella!
ELLW WAS GREAT
The way the great Ella and other greats HELD and worked their mics! Hands down!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
The voice 🎵🎶👏👏👏🙏
love her so much
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for sharing such a precious and beautiful film
on my darling Ella. It gives me goosebumps, and I am overjoyed.
What a treat to start my day ! With Ella’s voice.
To me Ella was the very best, she still is and will always be, for eternity.
Thanks for posting. I love Ella and I live in Brazil. I'm Brazilian.
Ipatinga, MG, Brasil.
Love Ella. Such a fantastic performer. Gave everything and then some. Left it all on the stage. So giving and so appreciative of her audience. 🤗❤️🖤💚💫✨

Ella has always been great from the beginning of her career. I am right? Am I wrong?
Abrazo.
Refreshing , beautiful, and no makeup ! I was 4 when this was made , I love her♥️♥️
She has makeup, just as she's wearing a blonde wig, and false eyelashes, but they compliment her natural beauty! Iman once said about Foundation, "never put it on so that you look like you're wearing makeup, apply your foundation only where it's needed, but do not cover your entire face with it!" Ella looks incredible in that blond wig! ❤️ 💜
Unbelievably good....!!!!!
For Albert Finley I whistle and stamp! I wonder if he ever knew that is what Miss Ella sang. - what a compliment
Hearing Ella singing
Mack the Knife reminds me of
Seeing Bobby Darren singing this

THANKS FOR SHARING THIS...SHE WAS ONE OF A KIND....
That’s s how you use a mike. Not like nowadays, when the screeches ram it in their mouths!
I laughed out loud alone in my car at this comment haha
Yep, I see them doing that as if that’d make them sound good.
Thanks for posting. Love Miss Ella!
I find it fascinating to hear how her voice matured over the years, from her start in the 1930s as a young person. In those days she was certainly enjoyable to listen to, but she really lacked the depth and perfection that she'd get to by the 1950s.
THANKS A LOT... 💚✋👏🐝🌀☘️👉👉
amo demais ❤️
Thank you so much for posting this. Ella is the best. This concert has made me very happy 😁
@ricardo2266 Thank you so much for uploading this!!!!!!!
This is not the original concert. That introduction was for another concert with an orchestra as well as the Flanagan Trio. A few of the songs are from that concert.
But thanks for this. As long as it is Ella we're perfectly fine with it ☺
The introduction is from BBC2 at the time of her death in 1996, and the concert it introduces is 'Sings' (the 2nd concert on here, with orchestra and trio). The first concert on here is 'Swings', with just the Flanagan Trio, which has never been repeated on TV to my knowledge.
Wow it's always a pleasure to see Ella Fitzgerald I'm a massive fan of Ella and have practically all her studio albums. This is an area of Ella Fitzgerald that I like very much it from the mid 60s. Do you by any chance have the other concert that is mentioned here as at the beginning they say there are two two classic concerts.
There are actually 2 TV concerts here, Ella Swings and Ella Sings (both from 1965). The other show, referred to in the BBC2 1996 introduction, is Ella at Ronnie Scott's (1974), which I think is already on here. Thanks for your interest.
@@ricardo2266 thank you very much for your information that helps me out a lot there was when everything still died in 96 the documentary about her life having trying to find its a BBC documentary somebody out there must have it. Thanks
This a mixture of more than one concert. I know that for sure.
