student support at this school is 10/10. the teachers actually make an effort to help the students rather than just tell them to make a statement and put people in iso for the week. it’s just a shame that the pupils don’t put the effort in bc as far as I can see the teachers are doing their best to help them but the students just sit about and complain.

pyjamapro The public sector aren’t allowed to give bonuses. The most them teachers will get for doing the extra hour is verbal compliments. If they were to give bonuses parents would complain that their tax money is being wasted.

It's not the school the kids attend now, it's the school they attended when they were young students. A lazy, can't be asked 16 year old student learnt to be that way in primary school, not to mention their parents accepting mediocre results. I was not a natural student but from a young age was taught to try and if I did the work the results would come and even then I was only ever a B+ student. These kids parents and primary school teachers failed to instill in them a work ethic. As for "moddly coddling" bullshit, the most impressive part of that school is how much the teachers care and the fact they have social workers in that school looking after kids who's parents don't wanna raise their own children. People view all kids as lazy and they view teachers who don't crack the whip as enablers, which is bullshit, even more kids would have fallen through the cracks if not for the teachers. interestingly the people who have that "coddling" opinion are often the most ignorant

The fact this headteacher was hounded out of his job by Manchester Council is a disgrace. You only need to watch this show to see how hard he is working for all the kids in that school, he and his team are a credit to teaching, instead they ousted him for an administrative error. Now they've implemented a zero-tolerance approach where kids are put in isolation. How is that helping these kids?

The staff in this school look incredible, they all care so much for the students results not for the reflection they have on the school, but for the kids and their futures themselves.
There's only so much the school can do and they're doing the absolute maximum, it's down to the kids themselves to put the work in.

For someone who cannot cope in exam situations, my gcse results really don’t reflect on my intelligence. It’s crap really but now I am at college I am on coursework instead of exams and it’s proving so much more successful for me.
M 2802xxx yes completely agree. The exam setting can be very stressful for so many people and because of that stress many perform not to their best ability. I’m not sure about other countries (I live in Scotland and we do Nat 5’s, highers and advanced highers not GCSE’s) but in our schools certain pupils can have separate accommodation if they get extremely stressed in the exam conditions.

I don't know how to pay taxes or how mortgages work however, I know the sine rule and how to analyse a text about hot air balloons so it's ok.
Can you do basic math? Can you add, subtract, multiply, and divide? Can you read and follow instructions? Yes? Then you can do taxes. Can you comprehend and analyze what you read? Yes, then you can learn about mortgages.
@@deaconsmom2000 In the UK math classes are not usually about basics and reinforcing skills. It's about getting people to pass the key stages in education and 'teaching to the test'. The result is that we know about relatively useless things like sin/cos/tan and nothing about how to do basic BODMAS etc. We need more life skill classes. Most people can't do basic math. And I agree...it would be easier to be taught about morgages rather than just read. make assumptions, and have to guess your way through it based on texts alone.

I had a friend in my school days who committed suicide during exam season. The pressure was too much for him. It was obvious he was struggling with the pressure on him, by both his family and the school. His family more so. It was awful. His parents were the type who would be ashamed of him and make him look a failure, if he didn't make it to university. The school didn't help the matter. He had his own demons. Being a teenager isn't fun for many. But i'm pretty sure he would still be alive if he wasn't pushed so much.

@@otismutt From experience, it's easier to get a 5 (strong pass) on higher than it is for foundation. Not a lot of room for error on a foundation paper.

Highest in the mocks were two 6 grades and few 5 grades? This is honestly shocking and it makes the school look bad. Year 11 maths lesson three weeks before is converting decimals to fractions? Shocking teaching standards but the student’s attitude is also shocking.
I was thinking that My school sees a 5 as the bare minimum most people at my school get 7 and above and it’s actually really stressful with the standards they have for us. I go to a grammar school so they make it a lot harder for us but I guess it will make it easier for us in the long run. The GCSEs have got so much harder

God, Phil Neville has taken an odd career path!
Principle Drew Povey was suspended last year! So insane to hear after watching this documentary multiple time and seeing how inspiring all the teachers were and their relationships with the students. The results were so low sitting at 18% for students achieving 5 or more GCSE's when the minimum is around 39%. The school went under a full investigation last year as it was deemed unsafe!
I read something about him off-rolling badly scoring pupils.. so he was getting rid of pupils that would probably get the overall scores down, and still only 18% got 5 or more GCSEs? Is that correct?
Just trying to understand, I might be misunderstanding something as I’m Dutch, and not familiar with GCSEs, nor a native speaker :)

the support at this school is AMAZING! my school is sooo bad, one of my friends is going through really bad mental health rn and cuts. the way they dealed with it was disgusting, our form tutor said that self harm was a silly passing trend/phase😤also half the people in our school have depression or anxiety and my school had the genius idea of banning our phones with the reasoning of ‘its the reason they don’t perform as well as they can and have bad mental health’🤮

Oh my god, did the school seriously realise it may be down to stuff they did that the results are so poor? Wow, in year 10, I tried my hardest, failed everything, which is what happened with a lot of people in my year, and to the heads at my school, it was still our fault for “not revising enough.” It was horrible, the pressure just made me angry, we got far too much homework to do that summer. I just wanted to scream and shout a big fat “FUCK YOU” to the whole world, especially as it was just after all the terrorist attacks.
I still did minimal revision in year 11 but thanks to better teaching, I passed all the real exams. My life is now great for the first time since 2012.

Fallonwilson xo they don’t they just want the kids to do well, they have a good support team and stuff i wish my school and surrounding schools around me did but all they care about is the schools reputation, this school cares about the kids themselves in order for them to do well.
I'm sorry, if you don't know that 0.3 is 3/10 as fraction it's not the exams that are wrong.

Wish my school was like this I had a panic attack wich triggered my asmtha so I was crying and having an asmtha attack and they shouted at me because I didn't do my science exam And sent me to isolation
I am actually really jealous of how this school deals with situations. One of my friends got excluded the moment A RUMOUR sprouted about her planning to stab another student with a knife it was a joke and then she was excluded for like a month THEY DID NOTHING ABOUT IT EXCEPT ASK A COUPLE OF US FOR STATEMENTS AND NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THESE!!!!! And nobody ever notices when I'm angry or upset just as I don't channel it on others!!!! Just I wish they actually cared about us!!
