  • Tadpole shrimp are also know as shield shrimp thanks to their shield like carapaces. They are also called "triops" though there are technically two genera of living tadpole shrimp with Triops being one of these. These small crustaceans are often referred to as living fossils because they have a similar body pattern to their prehistoric ancestors.

    I like how the horseshoe-shaped shield evolved in multiple unrelated animals numerous times. Appearing in triops, horseshoe crabs, eurypterids, and even in the vertebrate ostracoderms.

    I found one of these in a small pool of water after it rained heavily in literally the middle of the desert in New Mexico with absolutely no permanent body of water nearby. This was in the early 2000s when it used to rain a lot now it doesn't. I kept thinking to myself I had a horseshoe crab but it didn't make sense to me at the time because of where I found it (was in elementary school)

      We technically have an episode on him (it was an April Fool's episode): ua-cam.com/video/Yh_Jc4cgNKs/v-deo.html
      It would be fun to do an actual fact file on him, though. Haha!
      Thanks so much for watching. 🙂

      We decided to stick to wild animals, so we did the cats from which domestic cats are believed to have been domesticated: ua-cam.com/video/brqV7uNhWAo/v-deo.html

    You guys may be a small channel, but you guys are very nice. I like that this channel is small because if it wasn't you guys wouldn't be able to reply to everyone like you do.

    Easy to collect eggs with a small container of sand about a half inch deep. You see them bury eggs take it out and dry them up you will have a lot. Drop some in a separate container to hatch the big ones will eat them. When they are half the size mix them in you will have a never ending supply of these little creatures to watch

    I see very similar creatures in the rio grande, they stick to my chest when I jus sit they're for hours and they tickle, the only difference is they're almost completely black and I don't see the eyes ? Does anyone know what creature I'm talking about ?

      @AnimalFactFiles  2 роки тому

      Oh that's tough to say! There are so many amazing animals out there. Perhaps you're seeing actual tadpoles (the reason for this animal's namesake)??
