Folks on the East Coast, Greg Hawkes gets together occasionally with a band called Eddie Japan from Boston and they do full Cars shows that are spectacular. Close your eyes and sub in Ben or Ric in your mind and you’re right back in the late 70’s / early 80’s again. Also adding that it’s awesome that David has his Boston accent still. Always loved that.

Greg Hawks was their secret weapon. A musical genius. All members were awesome and Elliott Easton is a guitar master. They all brought something unique to the band. But Greg's synthesizer creations took everything to the max and it was perfect timing because it was a huge part of what was happening in American pop culture.

Many will call them New Wave, but in reality they were more of a unique band in thier own way. Yes it screams 80's , but that decade and the 70's leading up to it, defined a generation like no other. It's was like perfect drug store sort of speak. It was like," tell me what your addiction is and I have it and if it doesn't exist, I'll make it", kinda thing. From Hard Rock to traditional 60's and 70's, to The New Wave tsunami that was about to flood the stations for ten + solid years, was on the rise. And the stud surfer riding that wave was none other than
The Cars. The band had that one thing a few ever bands have, a unique incredible sound and they certainly made it clear, they we're here to stay, and they were ready to pave their own road to success in the history of Rock N Roll. It's like "The Godfather of New Age Rock" ,said. Ooh look out you rocknrollers, time may change me ,but I can't change time"(David Bowie). The Cars , an incredible amazing band who made it to the top on their own terms.😎👍

Elliot Easton is such a great guitarist, he can pull off a multitude of styles and when playing live he's note for note to the recorded material, his solos fit the material and are very musical. There's lots of other 'flashier' guitarists of the 70's and 80's who get a lot of focus but can't pul off the precise style Elliot has.

The Cars smoothly integrated what was modern musically at the time with good old fashioned rock and roll from the 50s and 60s. They added clever lyrics and musical layers that were both simple and complicated. But they never lost the magic that fast cars and pretty girls bring to the table. They weren’t trying to be political (gag me anymore). They were simply trying to be fun for fun’s sake. Remember fun?

Wow haven’t heard of Pablo Cruise in a while! Was that the group that did “Love Will Find Away”?

The Cars should have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before Ben passed, at least Rick was on stage a year before he passed as well.

1975 I was in eighth grade. After basketball game there was a sock hop. ( NO street shoes on the gym floor) Dancing to Just what I needed. First kiss. First time getting to second base. You fully don't understand what you did for ALOT of people. Miss and love you Rick and Ben ●

Kurt Cobain said the Cars, B-52’s, Devo, and Blondie were three of his favorite bands.

Damn, Elliot Easton went from looking like the coolest guitar player ever, to looking like Larry Mondello (Leave it to Beaver).

The song Heartbeat City from their 1984 album of the same name never gets out of your head. Oh heartbeat city here we come on happy days we count on thumbs, and nothing really gets us down as long as jackys back in town. Amazing song.
