I remember it well myself. Him and Chris Farley both died around the same time in 97. It does feel like recently. I am an 80's kid and while my main music was metal I loved Inxs. My mom wore out their albums when I was in High school. I'm 51 now and it still seems so recent they were as big as any band in the 80's even outsold U2 for a while. I just read a book by his sister a few months ago and that brought me here and I watched all of it. Just a sad time in a bad year for celeb deaths.

My gosh Helen your story is so similar to mine. 10 years ago I lost my partner in a hit and run. We were both only 24. The last ten years like you, I’ve had to slowly piece my life back together and heal from such a tragic death. There hasn’t been a day that’s gone by where I haven’t thought about Jason. He is still so loved and so dearly missed. The day of his funeral, I was sitting in the car bawling my eyes out after the service and INXS baby don’t cry came on the radio. He used to call me babe all the time. I will never forget that moment in my life. I totally agree that their music definitely helps get through the pain of such loss. 🌹

This is the first time I’ve watched this funeral. It was as poignant as Princess Diana’s 2 months before, before a global audience and was poignant personally when I lost both my parents, uncle and friend of my local pub years later. After watching countless documentaries, listening to many INXS albums, his solo material recently on cd and on iTunes, concert videos and music videos on UA-cam, it’s come to surface that Michael Kelland John Hutchence was of extraordinary talent who has left a wonderful legacy. He will forever be sorely missed in the world of music. A quote from his most famous INXS lyric for Never Tear Us Apart played towards the end of his funeral service, “...cause we all have wings, but some of us don’t know why.” He was built to fly amongst us all. Farewell and keep looking down on Tigerlily, your family and your remaining band mates. So long Michael. Peace... 😢❤️🕯
The song at the end I lost it. The fact that he loved so deeply. U could feel it when he sand. The flowers are beyoun stunning. The tiger 🐅 Lilly 🌼 flower is everything. I hope he knew how loved he was?. He touched so many. The Orther brother is amazing also. I love how he had dinner with his parents the night before. I loved how he played 1 last time with his band in rehearsals. Yes he was good looking, carismatic, talented, he was more than all that... He was loved by the world. Rest in peace.
Just saw Mystify last night. I had no idea about what led to his death. The punch that started his demise. So sad. I loved INXS as a teen and had a mad crush on him like many teenage girls. He was so talented and had such a magnetic appeal.

It has taken me 22 years to watch this.He gave me a wonderful time in 1991 at Wembley stadium,a Day I will never forget, and the Day he Died I will never forget as he left us on my Birthday.I loved his music, his voice, and the band.I still pine to hear his voice. My next step is to visit Austrailia and pay my respects before it's to late for me as I hit 53 years old. Will one day meet you on the "Stairs" Michael.x
“Never tear us apart” became the same kind of song for Michael Hutchence like “I will always love you” for Whitney Houston. Both were great voices, charismatic, now deeply missed...
I wouldn't put Whitney Houston in the same sentence as Michael Hutchence. She was technically perfect but had absolutely no soul or passion. Michael always put his heart and soul into every performance. Like Robert Smith always does.
@Beautiful girl, you are so right. They were both gifted, beautiful, full of so much soul and depth through their music. I will never forget either of them. They just couldn't win their demons, they took them over, so sad.
37 is far too early an age to pass away...Was something special about this guy Michael Hutchence...Still in heaven with the angels playing and singing..if that's where he wanted to go..love and light, rest in peace eternally.
Michael was such a passionate and sensitive man... I feel like there are not enough men in the world like him, and there should be. I see men without passion or thoughtfulness, and it saddens me... because I remember how beautiful this man was in person and manner. I know why Paula fell so deeply in love with him, having come out of a showbiz climate in England filled with posers and fakes. Michael was completely sincere and we should strive to emulate his example as a person.
But sadly like many of us he had his demons and issues that surfaced and we're heightened because he had that hedonistic life style and lived on the edge. Once he met Paula Yeates he didn't bargain on the impact of this union and a baby in the mix Paula truly loved him and he her but their wants and needs were different and needs and then a baby came along which didn't make things easier. I think Michael tried to do the right thing and Paula hoped he'd settle down. It was a no win situation . I've read the books penned by by Paula and her closest confidante at the time and it all makes sense now. No sides taken for me . I could see ultimately that it wasn't going to end well. Oh what a tangled Web we weave. X
Paula also came from a background of access and excess and didnt tske drugs until she met Michael. Think Amy Winehouse Not saying he's to blame but she joined his lifestyle and his need for hedonistic sex because she lived him and would do anything. She put up with a lot but it was her choice. Read the 2 books available. One by Paula and one by her PA at the time and then you will understand x
Thank you Micheal for lifting my spirit time and again since the day I first heard your voice. You make me feel alive; I will play your music forever on. Bless you and your loved ones.
Thanks for posting this beautiful service. Just watched it for the first time. America loved Michael Hutchence. May his soul Rest In Peace. Thanks fir bringing us happiness through your incredible voice and through the songs you wrote

I remember watching this in 1997. It was the year I graduated from High School. Michael Hutchence was truly very special and no one has even come close to comparing to him since... Oh that voice. He had such a presence about him. I never knew him other than through his music, but he'll always hold a place in my heart. RIP Michael Hutchence. 🎤🌹🙏🏻

So long ago yet it’s still hard to believe he’s gone. Mike was something special and magnificent. The world is a lesser place since that tragic day and music will never be the same.
i was there that day, i remember standing at the barrier and a cop came over to us and started giving us a hard time then the bishop came out and tore strips off him and told us we could come inside, i think there were about 20 or 30 of us in the group, we were led in and then shown up the back and up the stairs to the balcony where we had an overview of the proceedings, it shocks me to see the crowd in this video because there was nobody but us when we went in, i still have the eulogy from that day which were handed to us by the bishop. somehting i will never forget, i was just in Sydney for the day
I was lucky enough to see them live in concert and to meet most of the band except for Michael. They all took turns riding my scooter around the parking lot at the venue. That was fun. Such a great band. I still miss Michael to this day. I had such a crush on that man!
I was there and it was held on the 27th of November - a day before my 20th birthday. I was a fan of INXS as teen and his funeral being on the last day of my teens didn't go unnoticed.
RtC Extra Thank you so much for posting this for everyone! I have tried to find more footage from Michael's funeral for quite some time now but I could only find snippets from that very sad day. He is very much missed from this world & always will be. RIP Michael Hutchence
Polly Ann Thank you for letting me know about the book! I will have to buy it as soon as I can. I just can't believe it has been nearly 20 years since he passed away, it's such a terrible loss but atleast we have his music legacy to enjoy forever!
Polly Ann Yes he was! I love their music! The other band members knew it would never be the same after he was gone. So terribly sad but most sad for Tiger.
I could have sworn he's been gone only a few years. 20? Not possible. I saw INXS in 1982 just before Shabooh Shoobah was released. They were unknowns in the US opening for a "bigger act." Michael & INXS stole the show. We all left in love with them forever but the main act that day? Forgotten. 💔
They opened for Adam Ant and as much as I love Adam they blew everyone away on that tour.....and it was Adam who? Who are these amazing young men....and then Shabooh Shoobah exploded!
Watching Nov 10th 2019. I am 37 and to this day listen to INXS . I love Michaels music and my fav song is Never tear us a part . I had no clue they broadcasted the funeral , i just stumbled acrossed it . Very sad we lost such a talent who's music will never be forgotten .
@Vic Marrotti I think you missed the point and got caught up thinking the comment was a form of worship. Apparently the man was struggling with drug addiction, *which usually is a symptom of major trauma (like say??? child molestation) but as a veteran, you probably aren't familiar with drug addiction ; ) I'm not attacking you, I too think it's ridiculous how famous people are looked at as gods. It's a sad commentary on society when we exalt celebrities but that's what happens when you take God/The Bible and His Word from the general public. As for our veterans, humanity dies a little more each day, when we accept homelessness as a trophy for the men and women who served to ensured our freedom... Sad, very sad.
@@fawnteach8778 Not just drug addiction, but he did have major brain injury in 1992, that caused him to start acting differently and that is when his depression set in. He lost his sense of smell and taste.
I was 24 when Michael passed and am now 49, have been a fan since I was a young teen. I adored him and his music. One of his songs was my first love and my song and it was his music that got me through our breakup. I had such a crush on him. What a tremendous loss. Still haven't forgotten him all these years later... he really was something special.
A beautiful ceremony for one who was loved, cherished and admired by the world, sadly gone far too soon.....We all loved you Michael Hutchence and we will miss you forever.......
Even Geldof himself said he didn't believe it was suicide in an interview several years later after he had adopted his daughter Tiger Lilly. He was the one who told Michael he won't be seeing his own daughter over holiday in the last call Geldof made to him that upset him so much. That's where you wonder, after what happened to Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington who "died" the same way, was it really suicide?
I wish people could be more sensitive than to leave comments like these under a Video such as this - a Tribute to the life of a well loved , cherished and good human being. Do people have no shame...
I remember the news clip. They showed some of his last video of "Elegantly Wasted" as they told of his death. I waited to watch it on vh1 probably the beginning of 98. You can see he was tired. The light, the energy that drove him was just gone even then. His eyes looked spacy and dead. Hard to describe.
When they played, Never tear us apart, it broke my heart for his family & friends, RIP Michael Hutchence from a big fan of your music as my favorite song played at the end of your funeral from Newfoundland Canada, GOODBYE brother!!

Tony Evans that’s beautiful 🙏🏻
Rest in love Michael. Thank you for your music.
2021 and you are still loved, adored and sooo completely missed!! Keep singing to the Lord lovely angel😢😢😢
“Never tear us apart” became the same kind of song for Michael Hutchence like “I will always love you” for Whitney Houston. Both were great voices, charismatic, now deeply missed...
DO not even compare that with Micheal!
Beautiful girl...YES!
@@anitaszolomicki1167 whitney no soul???? Jajaja
So sad, loved Michael, he was so talented, still listen to his songs today, sadly missed, but never forgotten, RIP Michael.
PEACE MICHEAL 2020 XX
A beautiful service for a beautiful man. Still miss him and think of him around this time of year.
Rest in Peace Michael.. We miss you all .. we will never forget you.. You will always be in our hearts ❤❤❤
November 27,20. We remember your beloved Michael, we still love you. Your music we carry in our hearts, forever.
37 is far too early an age to pass away...Was something special about this guy Michael Hutchence...Still in heaven with the angels playing and singing..if that's where he wanted to go..love and light, rest in peace eternally.
He was and always will be the best front man of any band. He was loved so much and will be missed forever. 💗
Messylin lindas palavras.
Well said Messylin. Your comment is genuine and wonderfully put.
But sadly like many of us he had his demons and issues that surfaced and we're heightened because he had that hedonistic life style and lived on the edge. Once he met Paula Yeates he didn't bargain on the impact of this union and a baby in the mix
Paula truly loved him and he her but their wants and needs were different and needs and then a baby came along which didn't make things easier.
X
But he also had his demons which were far greater than he x
Paula also came from a background of access and excess and didnt tske drugs until she met Michael. Think Amy Winehouse
Not saying he's to blame but she joined his lifestyle and his need for hedonistic sex because she lived him and would do anything.
She put up with a lot but it was her choice.
Read the 2 books available. One by Paula and one by her PA at the time and then you will understand x
Tears flowing down my face.....i was a teenager when he passed on!!
so young. rest peacefully!!🙏🇺🇸❤
After all these years, this is my first time seeing this. It's still so terribly sad.
Thank you Micheal for lifting my spirit time and again since the day I first heard your voice. You make me feel alive; I will play your music forever on. Bless you and your loved ones.
Wow..it's just one of our saddest days. We all wanted to see this amazing guy grow old. He would be still impressing us I'm sure.
20 years later and this still hurts just as if it were yesterday. My heart will forever be broken. I miss you so much Michael xoxo

I miss Michael Hutchence a lot ,His amazing voice and his persona being Inxs is just sad because his gone. No one can be like Michael Hutchence.
Oh... michael 😘😥
🎤🌹🙏🏻
So saddened. I was in my twenties and now in my forties: death is only one breath away for all of us. He is missed.

Michael Hutchence una leyenda viviente. Tus canciones viviran por los siglos de los siglos!
You can feel all the love and all the pain. So sad :(
A very sad situation! So Young, so famous , so talented, so gorgeous, so humble, a real great Singer! What an amazing voice!
23 years and l'm still crying watching this..l was so sad when l heard the news that Michael was dead..what a great loss, fantastic man and singer..il still hurts so much..
Minha banda preferida! A voz mais linda ...inesquecivel Michael !❤
So long ago yet it’s still hard to believe he’s gone. Mike was something special and magnificent. The world is a lesser place since that tragic day and music will never be the same.
Still (along with Freddie Mercury) the best front man ever! May they continue to both RIP! Michael is still very much loved and missed xoxo
i was there that day, i remember standing at the barrier and a cop came over to us and started giving us a hard time then the bishop came out and tore strips off him and told us we could come inside, i think there were about 20 or 30 of us in the group, we were led in and then shown up the back and up the stairs to the balcony where we had an overview of the proceedings, it shocks me to see the crowd in this video because there was nobody but us when we went in, i still have the eulogy from that day which were handed to us by the bishop. somehting i will never forget, i was just in Sydney for the day
Um artista tão talentoso.. que descanse em paz, suas músicas são parte de seu legado
Hoje é dia 22 de novembro hoje faz 23 anos que MICHAEL HUTCHENCE nós deixou foi uma morte precoce triste
That was very sad, but a beautiful memorial/funeral for his family and the world.
Breaks my heart to see Paula and Tiger Lily. Oh Michael, it would have worked out in the end.
So tragic that only two years later Tiger Lily would lose her mother too
My favourite was ' mistify ' it's amazing how music can carry us through some of the most traumatic periods in life ....
The last proper rock star . That lifts a room with his presence
This was sad. Had most of INXS music. Such a talented & gifted artist. Never to be forgotten :(
I was lucky enough to see them live in concert and to meet most of the band except for Michael.
Read Michael it's a beautiful book about a beautiful man.
Polly Ann Thank you for letting me know about the book! I will have to buy it as soon as I can. I just can't believe it has been nearly 20 years since he passed away, it's such a terrible loss but atleast we have his music legacy to enjoy forever!
Lori Love he was a genuis with a heart of gold.
Lori Love There early stuff is their best things started to change after Kick.
Polly Ann Yes he was! I love their music! The other band members knew it would never be the same after he was gone. So terribly sad but most sad for Tiger.
25 years have past, can't believe he's been gone that long.. rest in peace 🙏
*Saudades desse músico maravilhoso de voz única que Deus o tenha na sua glória eterna.*
Hoje 23 anos sem MICHAEL HUTCHENCE
This is possibly the most powerful and Beautiful funeral I have ever witnessed 😔
Watch micheal Hutchins funeral live again 2020 PEACE XX
23 years later and I still mourn the absence of this precious soul. Rest in blissful peace Hutch 💚
WATCHED THE SERVICE LIVE IN A HOTEL IN EDINBURGH. AFFECTED ME AS IT STILL AFFECTS ME TODAY. GOD BLESS X
I could have sworn he's been gone only a few years. 20? Not possible. I saw INXS in 1982 just before Shabooh Shoobah was released. They were unknowns in the US opening for a "bigger act." Michael & INXS stole the show. We all left in love with them forever but the main act that day? Forgotten. 💔
DrKate L. I hope you’re joking... 1982 was a long time ago and so was 97’... It’s literally 2019
They opened for Adam Ant and as much as I love Adam they blew everyone away on that tour.....and it was Adam who? Who are these amazing young men....and then Shabooh Shoobah exploded!
I saw them too opening for Adam-instantly was hooked on them. So sad he's gone.
2021 and I cried like a baby watching this. Gone way too soon...😭
RIP Michael on your 26th anniversary. We miss you! 😢
The saddest part is that nobody recognised his suffering.....
@Vic Marrotti I think you missed the point and got caught up thinking the comment was a form of worship.
Apparently the man was struggling with drug addiction, *which usually is a symptom of major trauma (like say??? child molestation) but as a veteran, you probably aren't familiar with drug addiction ; )
I'm not attacking you, I too think it's ridiculous how famous people are looked at as gods. It's a sad commentary on society when we exalt celebrities but that's what happens when you take God/The Bible and His Word from the general public.
As for our veterans, humanity dies a little more each day, when we accept homelessness as a trophy for the men and women who served to ensured our freedom... Sad, very sad.
@Vic Marrotti Added perspective

@@fawnteach8778 Not just drug addiction, but he did have major brain injury in 1992, that caused him to start acting differently and that is when his depression set in. He lost his sense of smell and taste.
@Vic Marrotti not the same at all mate why are yu even here 😏😏
@Vic Marrotti People have different kinds of combat mate. You don't need to trumpet yours.
I just watched 'Mystify' (Netflix), and I'm appalled by Noel Gallagher. How can a human being be so cruel???

Them Gallagher's are both heartless pricks.

What a shame to lose the best voice in rock history, the best frontman ever to hit the stage who sang for the best band in the world 🌎

Still hurts my heart 27 years later. Time flies. Love and light Michael. 💙💙💙✨✨✨
This video is a treasure. I still miss you Michael! Gone but never forgotten! ❤️🌷 ( What a beautiful funeral)
Such a sincere genuine funeral indeed❤🙏
I was 24 when Michael passed and am now 49, have been a fan since I was a young teen. I adored him and his music. One of his songs was my first love and my song and it was his music that got me through our breakup. I had such a crush on him. What a tremendous loss. Still haven't forgotten him all these years later... he really was something special.
Still listening his beautiful voice and amazing lyrics with a touch of him and reality of life.
He still alive in those who still remember him.
A beautiful ceremony for one who was loved, cherished and admired by the world, sadly gone far too soon.....We all loved you Michael Hutchence and we will miss you forever.......
So sad, he never realized how beautiful his spirit was .. Now God has him.
eyerishroses I thought suicides went to hell? I hope not though.
@@gruppenfuhrer45
There's neither hell, nor God.
There, problem solved.
Ada Vanja if that’s what you believe.
I wish people could be more sensitive than to leave comments like these under a Video such as this - a Tribute to the life of a well loved , cherished and good human being. Do people have no shame...
Still have this on VHS myself. Thanks for uploading it, suprised no one else has before now.
I want the same song (Never tear us apart) in my funeral 🖤
How all these years runs fast. I remember the terrible news of his death. Thanks for posting. Rest in peace MH.
Michael you were loved. We miss you mate. RIP.
When they played, Never tear us apart, it broke my heart for his family & friends, RIP Michael Hutchence from a big fan of your music as my favorite song played at the end of your funeral from Newfoundland Canada, GOODBYE brother!!
