Would love to see a DIY EVF with this
This would probably be sick for older cams!
You're exactly right. Seems pointless to have on an A7Slll or any newer camera. Tiny sceeen for how large it actually is.
Absolutely! And poor souls using the Sigma FP 😂
I've had this on my Amazon wishlist for a few months now. I'm glad to see you recommend this. I can now confidently jump on it.
Seems like this one could be a great addition to an EOS M with Magic Lantern! :)
Its not tiny. Its just really far away
Johnny Bravo classic
lolzies
That's what she said.

Great vid like always! I noticed the Vivitar 28mm f1.9 on your Sony for this video. I love that lens. Crazy flares and weird bokeh, I reviewed it a couple of months back. Your channel has been a great inspiration for us here. Thank you for raising the bar on these UA-cam reviews.
Cool review. Always enjoy your content. Yes! “A smallest cinematic camera rig build” would be fun to watch.
I followed your “ultimate handheld rig” build from 3 years ago. Did my own from your suggestions and love it!
I've been looking for a 3 inch monitor to use on my BMPCC OG for casual shooting and this one is great! Please keep digging up these little gems Caleb :)
Love your content. Always top notch. Thanks for posting!
This looks like a great addition for my Sigma FP. I've been looking for something small and compact to overcome the fixed screen of the FP. Don't really need the recording functions given the amazing codecs the FP offers. All in all this looks killer, great video.
Ha! I didn't mention it in the video (should have) but I feel like this was invented for the FP!
Or the Blackmagic Micro or Pocket!
i *just* saw this on amazon yesterday. LOL what timing.
i'm keen to see that "smallest cinema camera setup" video!
It’s so cute. Could be great for gimbals and other remote/field setups like using in a car.
Merci pour la présentation de ce produit 😎👍🏾
perfect for my vhs camcorder setup
This is useful for showing menus by itself.
The only thing I don’t like about this channel is that you don’t release something everyday. Love your content! Sooo helpful
Caleb always finding those fun unique camera gadgets
Great Video!!
I would be one of those people that would enjoy seeing how it operates with other smaller camera's (and perhaps one's with no monitor perse'). Always enjoy your episodes and tips.
Yes, tiny cinema package! Sigma FP? Canon Eos M?
Good enough quality for backup but not for general use. I like this.
Lover you videos. Learning so much about rigs from you channel. Been doing photography for many years but just starting to really get into video and camera rigs. Just got a Nikon z30 just don't see any rigs build around one. Would be great to see how you would put one together. Keep up the good work.
I think this is a perfect monitor for my C100 original! I'll be picking it up for sure!
For cameras that shoot raw but disable backup recording, could you loop this to your atomos and record a backup of the raw recording? So raw HDMI into the Atomos and then hdmi viewing out of the atomos into this recorder to get a backup at 30 fps in 1080?
The monitor is actually cool and absolutely value for money, I am also really interested in the lense you're using in this video
This is perfect!
I've been looking for something affordable that has HDMI passthrough that will allow me to check exposure, white balance, focus etc, cause the built-in monitor on my Lumix cameras just doesn't do a very good job.
you know what could be cool ? one of those small Z Cams, maybe like the E1 or something like that, super small that makes THAT small monitor look "big". Great video as always Caleb !
I daily drive an E1, this monitor leaped out at me!!
Great run and gun monitor for my ZCAM S6! 1080p 30fps is fine for social and in a pinch. Been looking for something like this, thanks for scouring amazon for us!
Also...may have missed it...but can you load luts on it?
A little over a year ago, i asked around in some camera groups asking for something similar to this, small screen just for the assist features. I got flamed all over, some say why when its so small when you can’t even see the details well? some even question if my enquiry was a joke, and told me to take the 5” bad boys and just shut up.
Finally, my question is answered and i glad it was Caleb who did so, this is going to help me actively try to create as everything can be tucked into a small bag, i can run and gun while taking less time to dial my exposures and be confident it’s right, and most of all i am happy and relived to feel i’m not insane to want a small monitor, thanks a lot brother.
TINY CINEMA RIG PLLLLEEEASSSE and THANK YOUUUUU
Hi Caleb, thank you for another informative video! I just want to confirm: If I want to record in camera 4k and use the monitor to record as a back up (I know it will be 1080p) will that be possible? you did that in your video but you also said you have to feed it a 1080p signal.
I do a lot of one time interviews and worry if the camera fails and want a recorder as a back up to still get the information. Thank again, Jesse
Makes for a good redundant recording for single slot cams. Nice video 👍👍
A compact cinema camera set up would be a fun video! I'd watch
Hi Caleb - Yes please make the smallest Cinema rig you can come up with - love to see it.
I ordered as soon as I saw this video, glad I did, it’s now sold out..😊
I vote yes for a tiny cinema camera video! Maybe with one of the Z cams or the Panasonic BGH1.
I’d be happy to spend a little more for one of these that did 4k/30 and 1080p/60. But even just as a monitor with those features, the $169 price is very good.
tru
Yes pls to the tiny cinema camera setup!!!!! Would be so cool
this would pair well with my a6500, great video 👍🏼
Yes, please make a video on your take on the smallest cinema camera setup. I also have a question: Under what circumstances would one consider a cell phone a cinema camera?
I’d be interested in adapting this into a diy EVF
That's what I'm thinking too!! Could be a really budget fiendly EVF.
Looks like a great little monitor / recorder for the price.
A “as tiny as possible cinema cam setup” video would be sweet!
Second this. Something so small and incognito yet has all the necessities for filmmaking. It'll be killer for documentary-type shoots
IKAN had a 4inch monitor , some years ago that was good for its price. I used it with the Blackmagic Micro Cinema Camera which was good because it fit perfectly on the small boxed camera. This looks like a good one!
I still have this and use it.
That’s what I’m looking for
As an R6 Mark 1 owner… Thank you 🙏🏼
Yes please on the mini cinema cam video. I reccomend the Black Magic Micro Cinema camera, maybe with the laowa 9mm (i think)
Can you confirm if it records in 30 minute auto split files? I need a recorder like this for a basic backup recorder, but I need continuous files that aren't broken up. Thanks for the review!
I just bought an a7sii and this would be awesome for it!
Awesome review. Do you know of any other external monitors that record to an SD or mini SD card? I’m big on having a backup since my camera doesn’t have dual SD.
Super cool! I wonder if you could just add an LCD ev loupe and have a cheap evf?
“dank luts pack” 😂👏
Thanks Caleb for the great content. What is the lens on the Sony @00:08 ? Thx!
I feel like this is a perfect thing to rig to an old MiniDV or 8mm camera 🤔
I was watching your video from 5 years ago, holy, you look so much more slim and handsome hahaha
Caleb, pls test if this is feasible to use with those loupe/finders to use this as an evf. See if the image is good and the pixels isn't to obvious.
Oh that would be awesome for the fx30
@@Shawns_snapshots agree. I have the sigma fp :)
would love to see that actually
Same here.
agree
Hi Caleb! How much time it takes to switch on this device? From pushing the button to live view?
Does it do 1.5 desqueeze?
Great little tool, can I monitor my audio with this since on a A6400 u don’t have mic jack? Thanks
Yes to tiny set ups. I a 67 year old gal. I have little kid hands and they are done growing. Hee, hee. I don't use full frame because of this. I only use my big glass if its on a tripod. I would love a small set up that is light and small to do vlogs. Thanks so much for your content. 😊
Interesting little value-priced monitor. Is there any latency delay between the HDMI in and HDMI out?
Bro! Been looking for something like this to replace my old Ninja Star. I'm just recording our multiview from ATEM Constellation. Purchased :)
Considering using this as a waist level viewfinder for the new Lumix S5iiX. Do you think this monitor would work on that body? I’m using it for stills. Thanks!
Velly interesting. Guess I need one just because it's so cute.
Dammit… exactly what I was looking for and got a 5 inch but wanted smaller 😭
thats what she said
the tiny cinema rig would be awesome :-D do it! :-D
Omg that’s the cutest thing ever
Does this device record the EVF screen settings (eg, focus points & other functions)?
automatically resamples + reformats all incoming video to 1080p30? that's an automatic proxy generator right there.
Only if your main video recording fps is 30 too.
Hi Caleb. What is the recording bitrate on the monitor? I am looking for something which is able to record at at bitrate of between 3-5mbps to keep the file sizes small for the work I do. Thank you.
Only realised these things are available. Is there a budget monitor just mainly for still shooting? I only need one so that other people can see what is in my camera viewfinder. Thanks.
I really like this tiny footprint BUT is it possible you can point me to what external camera displays that can give a crop fram/aspect ratio of a vertical 9x16 so that I can see the full horisontal frame but also has a frame on the display for a vertical (phone) format so when shooting I can get content that I can use for both horisontal and vertical use. Of course I am thinking of shooting the full vertical format and crop in post. But I would love to be able to have a good idea of where in the frame the centre of the 9x16 frame would be so I can try to have a nice composition for both vertical and horisontal 16x9/9x16. I hope I am making some sense in my question but I think for example the Black magic can do this but I can not get it on my R5 so I was hoping that theres a few external monitors that would allow it?
I like the idea to make a tiny cinema kit.
Id like to use one just to record my EVF if thats possible, might give it a try and see.
Lets say i want to record when i do a portrait session, does it show the eye autofocus box on the model?
Unless the tiny size is necessary, I would recommend picking up a used blackmagic video assist 5 (first model, not the 3G). I got one for only $100. It’s small, though a bit fat, and it gives a lot more recording options and also has false color.
Would this record without time limit? Could be a great way of getting round the recording limit on older cameras?
I have been looking for a easy small recorder to record my camera operating when I'm doing tv shows etc, so that I can do a showreel
Is it possible to use it with the G7? It's a monitor and recorder so it should be able to display the image without the camera locking it out.
informative 10mins
This would be a great option for mounting a monitor on a gimbal.
Can you assign to Luts on the function button?
just wish this sells in the Philippines. really like to try this
Wow. would this work as a monitor for an atem mini pro? via hdmi input
def curious on a tiny cinema setup
Nice for those that might be self conscious walking around with a larger 5 or 7 inch monitor
how did you get your video to show on the monitor and your flip out screen at the same time. I can't get this to work with my A7IV
Please do make the "Tiny Video Gear" rig you mentioned. 🙂
Was interested for a waistlevel finder but unfortunately does not show camera readings, just the image, so still need to look at the native camera screen.
When you provide 24 FPS does it speed up the footage or does it do that 3:2 pulldown thing?
This could be an awesome external viewfinder with some rails and a screen to viewfinder adapter
Homebuilt jib.
true
Another interesting option, if you can find it, is the old Atomos Ninja Star. Just a recorder without a monitor, but very small and runs forever off of a single NPF550. Records 1080p 24p or 30p in Prores 422 HQ, with my Nikon Z6 I can send an oversampled 1080p image to it to get 10 bit NLOG while keeping the setup compact.
A Ninja Star combined with a used Z6 gives you the cheapest full-frame 10 bit camera setup with phase detect AF.
@@joemonteithcinematography7477 but no 4K :(
@@josephchristoffel Yes but Dynamic Range and color are more important, plus the 1080p is downsampled in-camera from 4k to 1080p so you get some extra detail.
So shooting with something like a canon 7D Mk2, if I just need something to record longer format scenes like speeches, stage performances, weddings, etc and aren't in need of any of the cinematic tools needed for more sophisticated shooting, and need files that will play nice with Vegas Pro for editing, is this the tool I've been looking for? Do you know if it breaks up the recording into smaller files?
I wonder how this would work when pair with the BGH camera?
Can you make a video from the beginning to the end how you use your camera what settings you use, how you edit, what kind of light you see, thank you so much
Actually have been wanting to do this for some time... Thanks for the push!
@@dslrvideoshooter thanksss
Would I get the same results from a capture card connected to a PC?
im confused though. so does your a7siii not send out a 4k signal via HDMI? did you set your in-camera settings to send out 1080p via HDMI and just 4k internally?
edit: now that i thought it through, it makes sense, i guess? like if wanted to record my xbox at 4k it would take that in, just wouldn't display on screen. basically an elgato hd60s with a screen hmmm?
Use the Canon eos m with it for a cine setup. And dope video.
Great little device that will solve lots of problems for me, but:
1.Does it have recording limits?
2.What is the bitrate of the recorded files?
3.Does it split videos into small 10,20 or 30 minutes?
4.If the camera is set to 25fps instead of 30, will it record 25fps?
5.What is the container of the h264?Is it mp4 or mov?
#1- NO
#2- 8bit
#3- Don't know
#4- NO
#5- mp4
@@johnkelly6888 did u really mean 800kbit/s or this was a typo? 8mbit/s may be?
My bad, it was typo. It's 8bit.
It's relatively small, but i wouldn't recommend it for the money they are asking.
@@johnkelly68888bit is a bit-depth… not a bitrate….
What do you mean about game play? Like I can use this as a mobile capture card?
