Shout out to the Jonas brothers.
Did he grow up playing keys in a black church?! His chords remind me of home! Lol, he's 🔥🔥🔥
Had a blast demoing this VST! Definitely adding to the arsenal. Thanks for having me Andrew!
No worries little buddy. You come back any time ok.
It's a rad sounding Rhodes right? 👏🏾😍
Man it’s so good
Get Scott to come on more often. Love the guitar and keys content!
Love this video! Scott, you are awesome. Jack especially admires your skills.
Jack's got a bright future as a keyboardist!! Hope we can jam again soon!
Fantastic review!!
I purchase this plug-in while I was watching your review. Can’t wait to start using it.
Damn! The sound just hits sooo great, am definitely using this with my MP Controller!
At 5:20 I paused and opened my UA connect app
Sounds amazing!!!
Seeing that display so far back hurts my neck!
I know I miss my side table with the monitor nice and close.
@@AndrewMasters I thought there was something wrong with me since so many studios have them way back.
🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾 UA gang
The velocity sample mapping goes abrupty into the hardest smack at the top of the range without enough intermediate level samples to get you there smoothly. You can hear it all over this performance. He has random out of place too hard notes out of nowhere all the time. Hes a good player. He woudnt have the other skills and sound like he has such little dynamics control. There's another way I know how off this aspect of the response is because:
I have
1. Electra 88
2. Uvi Keysuite Electric
3. Everything from IK Multimedia (inc all expansions)
4. Keyscape.
5. Arturia Rhodes V
6. Air Velvet (surprisingly good)
7. A real Rhodes 88
Ive been a player since 3 so 43 years. No one who can really play wont be bothered by this. Its not "velocity response" or "S curve" settings. Its a lack of velocity layer samples in the top of the dynamic range and/or better choices in the several layers below that super hard smack at the top.
the velocity is adjustable tho?
@@Barney-ii1no Thats to adjust the velocity response of hitting the keys effecting various things, but especially which samples of the velocity mapping of the samples. What im talking about is the lack of variance of AVAILABLE samples from the original instrument that are between mezzo and forte.
However you send the velocity triggering, there's no changing that you're playing a sound with a certain darker brightness and timbre and it radically shifts to way more in those characteristics at the next sample up. In the top of the velocity range on the real thing you have much more (infinite pretty much) variability between those 2 sounds. That's the kind of stuff that makes sample libraries large in data size. The more velocity switching layers the more data.
Which Rhodes vst do you recommend the most?
NICE!!!!!!
Beard looks good !
That sounds ridiculous❤
I am sure it's great. And I can download it for free since I have Spark. Unfortunately, it takes 8 gb of storage space or something absurd. I just can't justify that for a single plugin.
Meh. I’ve got a 2TB SSD for cheap just to load plugins. Storage is so cheap nowadays…
For a plug-in, yes that would be insane. But this is also an *instrument* with layers of quality audio samples etc, it's not uncommon. I grabbed BFD Player recently, and it's two kits for around 5 GB.
But what I would like to see with UA is something like BFD has done where you can choose to install different quality and install sizes.
@@puppskaft there are tons of similar virtual instruments that don't take up that much space.
I know, but this is sample-based, not generated audio. Keyword I guess is "similar".
From the devs: "Next we recorded a ridiculous amount of samples to *accurately capture the expressivity and sonic range of the real keyboard,* landing at *over 50 velocity layers per key!* /…/Making Electra a sample-based VI was the best way to *accurately capture the true sound and soul of the real unit* by getting the natural imperfections in pitch, note decay times, and even harmonic overtones on higher-velocity notes."
But if the other ones are good enough for you than I fully understand. Their Ravel piano instrument is 10GB btw @@rome8180
I have some that are around 100gb 😬
7:35 & 5:20 are great moments
It sounds great, no questions asked. But there are a ton of free rhode-sims that are equal as good imo
Please list your top 3 (free) ... I'm hungry for more Rhodes :)
@@WesWookBeats Just get the actual Rhodes plug in from Rhodes
I would love to know what they are
Listening to this I wanna write 75 songs
Asking an engineer who plays keys to pick a sound for a part is like asking my wife to pick a film on Netflix......
Can you run audio through the pedals other than the VST? 👀
Which one is your favorite?
Question? How would you record it. Midi? Audio? Or through your mic pre’s.
Midi
Sounds like keyboard velocity sounded kinda weird on the very first demo sound..
its adjustable
Keyscape!!!
I agree. The pure sound on the tines are missing.
I’ve tried to mess with this plugin without any UAD hardware but Im almost never able to get any output from it. I have tried using it as an insert on a audio and instrument track but anytime I engage the plugin, I lose the piano signal.
Hey Humberto, then there's probably something else going on wrong! The plug-in works really well. Let me know if you need some help to get it working.
It definitely won’t work if loaded onto an audio track as this is a midi instrument.
How did you get so little latency in ProTools?
Use a mac
The thought of giving any money to UAD for this makes me feel ill. Keyscape is better and more detailed by quite a margin and Rhodes themselves have the new Rhodes V8 plugin, which also dwarf's this UAD attempt. UAD have just slightly rehashed the GUI of their existing plugins that you already own and add a mediocre attempt at a Rhodes and charge how much? Money for old rope. Don't fall for the UAD marketing hype, this is another example of UAD offering nothing new or better here, but with the strongest marketing reach ever.
Boom, ain't that the truth! You are soooo right.
I think they all sound good. See no reason to bash on the UAD version.
Personally I prefer the AcousticSamples VTines, but I think the Electra 88 has a ton of vibe to it. Also the ease of creating sounds with the built in effects is super handy. Several of them do not exist as separate plugins by the way. Not that I see anything wrong in reusing old code like that. Most VI manufactures do that. In fact I wish that they had added more effects to the Waterfall B3.
At the full price it is not worth it to me since I have most of the UAD effects and several good Rhodes plugins. But at a good sales price I might pick it up as I really do like the creative options it provides.
@@henrikpetersson3463 what would be a good price? Like 40 bucks now on sale?
@@derdude8201 Yeah, that’s a good price! I already got it in a bundle a few months back and I like it a lot. It’s not my fav Rhodes sound by itself but as I said it has a ton of vibe and some of the presets are inspiring. If I had to pick one I would still go with AcousticSamples though.
