These were my stomping grounds. Grew up in Maquoketa and used to live in the Quad Cities. Lots of memories came back watching this.☺

One of my ancestors who was someone my own father knew when he was a boy, was born in Dubuque, Wisconsin Territory, in 1837. My ancestors came to Dubuque in about 1836 and engaged in general merchandise and grocery sales business. The family a bit later, probably 9 years or so, moved elsewhere in Iowa and some moved to California in the 1910s.

My ancestors were some of the first white settlers after the territory opened up. After they had been some of the first settlers in Ohio. Veterans of the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 that opened up the territory. President Polk gave them a deed for land on a buckskin. As Justice of the Peace and Postmaster he wrote letters to the governor about the lawlessness of the territory. One of them was published in the Palimpsest in the '40s. I'm proud of that. This whole video was more grievance than history of the people that built this state. This is what you have to offer? Shameful. This guy and that lady should be fired.
