No you couldn't, had 8in on mine 6nz cat motor went back to mufflers, favorite word was "what" when on phone. 🤣 no difference between 18 spd and 13 spd on high side. Can split gears on low side and get a slower reverse in deep reduction, and normal in high low. But sometimes 18 spd are actually cheaper
13 and 18 speeds come in different variaties that can effect crusing RPM, but only if you have the direct drive or overdrive versions. Most road trucks will already have the OD version. usually only pit trucks will have the DD version. If one is wanting better cursing RPM's, going to an 18 speed can be advantageous if you are also going to taller final drives so you don't lose bottom end pulling power.
to me thats money well spent your clutch and trans should be good for a couple years now i think thats good insurance to me keep up the good work and i hope your wife and baby are doing well god bless my friend!
And I will say I really enjoyed that view. Being able to see the tach, speedo and what gear you are in was fascinating for my mechanical mind! I enjoy that kind of thing. The only thing that could probably make it better was to see turbo boost and EGT. But that isn't worth spending the time to setup for that lol. Unless I am mistaking what the guages on the left mean.
Anyone wanting to learn before cdl school. Get you a Logitech wheel with shifter and American trucker. It will make it ALOT easier. I do not own a cdl but have played a lot of American trucker and I said to myself multiple times that this game is the closest thing to driving the real rig. It looks the same.
That new trans a little sticky I see haha always like that when new & tight like that. Doesn't quite float in and out easy at first but over time it gets better. Didn't know I could Rev match between splits on the downshift either, you just taught me that. Thanks bro! I failed My test but I'll retake it in 2 weeks & then you'll be seeing my Red W900L wrecker around that area. #SurburbanTowing

Can I ask why do you turn the jake brake off . In the uk we have electric telma braking , working inside the gearbox , same end result just a Europe thing !

Hey I have smart steering wheel on my w900L 2000 so want to change it to one like yours but I don’t how or where they can do it for me do you have any idea about it?
There used to be a kit you could buy to relocate and mount the buttons on the dash and you could mount whatever steering wheel you like but not sure who made it. I'll do some digging and if I can find it I will let you know.
I would love to drive that truck and shift without using the clutch. Really old school. Something you hardly see anymore here in the Netherlands. Automatic transmission is what we have now. The new commercial drivers can't even handle a manual shifted truck. A 18 speed transmission is 3x3 speed with a splitter an every gear? (3x3x2 makes 18)

Greetings from central Europe. I was watching Your video and I felt pain in my wrists looking how your steering wheel is trying to break your thumbs. Is that normal in American trucks? I’m driving here Mercedes Atego it’s kind of a mid range truck and you can drive through freshly ploughed field and it’s not that dramatic on steering wheel

Because I converted the front to an air ride the truck sits lower which in turn the steering drag bar link sits at a different angle and that's why the wheel movement

Glad you got a valley instead of a weller. I’ve got a weller in my Pete and haven’t been real happy with it, lots of oil leaks.

You are right about the top gear. In the 13 and 18 speed the top gear is .73, the same. And the 10 speed top gear is .74

Not sure about newer trucks but these older ones just have engine compression brakes

Trucks in Europe have Retarder and its different from engine break.
I think the new tracks in America like VOLVO have a Retarder.

High gear on any transmission should be 1:1 unless it's an overdrive, you are correct to change final rpm the rearend determines that.
