    Uncle Tom is a term for a slave who helps the slavemaster oppress the other slaves, in return for special privileges. It goes back to a character from the 19th century abolitionist novel Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe. In this context, Spike is calling Angel a human collaborator.

    One of the most iconic scenes in the whole show when Spike ( one of the greatest characters in The Buffyverse ) rolls into town and drives right over the Sunnydale sign. School Hard is one of the greatest episodes of S2. James Marsters was so impressive in the role, he became an instant fan favourite. Some great writing in this episode, when Xander goes to get Buffy's bag and pulls out a yoyo, tampon and then stake, this shows Buffy from child, to teenager, to adolescent showing how she is growing up. Great too when Joyce clobbers Spike on the head with the axe. All in all a great episode for early S2 with Angel/Spike/Drusilla who have a shared history through the centuries to add to the arc of the Season.

    Oz definitely the coolest character in The Buffyverse. Nobody does laid back like Oz, his witty one liners and observations are brilliant throughout. When he says 'you're only interested in a girl who can walk or talk' reply 'she doesn't have to talk', the look on Oz's face. Inca Mummy Girl one of the weaker episodes of S2 Xander showing his complete innocence and gullibility. We all feel for Willow who at this stage in the show is so meek and quiet, always feeling looked over. We all seem to forget what an awful bully and generally horrible vacuous person Cordelia was, totally putting down Willow at every opportunity throughout the early parts of the show, we see that again here. The metaphor of the show saying basically looks aren't everything, and be careful as things are never what they seem. Jonathan gets a lucky escape here along with Xander also. Xander comes through at the end and saves Willow's life. Once again here we see the clumsy Xander's unfortunate taste in women.

      @@killianlpc god, I’m sensing Xander gonna be the worst victim for this kinda thing throughout the seasons, and yes, Cordelia is just the worst kind of bully, I just really love her funny moments that it’s actually hilarious to watch x

    Love the Spike and Drusilla scenes too! On the set of a weekly TV show there isn't usually much time for rehearsal. But James Marsters and Juliet Landau came from theater backgrounds. After hours they got together at James apartment to run their scenes, coming up with their delightfully twisted love play.

    The real reason for the Annointed One in the first season was to lead Buffy to the Master, intended to trick her, but she knew about him already. Then by the time they got to Season 2 they realized that they had made a mistake - vampires aren't supposed to grown, but the child actor had a growth spurt. So they filmed him always sitting down to disguise that fact, and wrote him out of the series.
    Spike and Drusilla are great new additions to the show, their affection for each other is a rarity between vampires. The actors are both very charismatic.
    Sire is typically used for the vampire that made the new vampire, but it hasn't been officially defined yet. Spike also called Angel his Yoda, so even if Angel didn't literally sire Spike, he probably taught him how to be a vampire.

    • @Mia_D.Davies
      @Mia_D.Davies  Місяць тому

      @@ernesthakey3396 that makes sense why they quickly wrote him out of the season then, kind of guessing we don’t see any more children vampire for the rest of the show then!
      Yes, they definitely are, spike just popped onto the screen with so much energy, I love it, fav villain so far.

      @Mia_D.Davies Spike did say "you were my sire, man, you were my Yoda!" So at this point we know what Spike claimed, and and Angel did say "I thought you to guard your perimeter," or something along those lines. So yeah, you definitely caught that!

    The season 1 episodes, as interesting as they were, had simple fairy tale plots. Everyone was either good or bad, the good guys always won, and no one we care about dies. As you noted, Ampata is the first really ambiguous character. She has to kill to stay alive, so she has to die, but that is not her fault. But her willingness to kill even Xander in the end made her death morally justified.

      @@seanmcmurphy4744 oh she tried to kill him, I thought she had a case of double change mind, after going in for the kill but then it looked like to me she hesitated because of how she felt but I guess I was wrong. But as good as people may be, I feel like most people would succumb to that sort of situation, I know I probably would have given in when faced with death just to stay alive, but I’d hunt out criminals rather than innocent people x

    Hey Mia,
    Who's accent sounds more authentic?
    Spike or Drusilas?
    We know Giles is from the UK, but does he have a proper London accent?

    • @Mia_D.Davies
      @Mia_D.Davies  Місяць тому

      @@trexinvert I think they are both pretty close, closer than Giles anyway. However it’s hard to say as Drusila talks very slow and sound very depressed whereas Spike is very charismatic and energetic.
      Also the thing with the UK is that we have so many different accents depending where people are from, I’m from and live in the South so I consider London North (and they have different accents there, which are not close to Giles), whereas people from there would say something different.
      The only people in the UK that sound/speak like Giles are those who are stuck heavily in the past, I only ever met one person like that and he would be into all the old vintage stuff and wear clothes from like the 70’s x
