Hi Victoria!! Yeti is such a ham. He really loves being on camera. Our first 2 videos, he was like, I don’t know about this Mom. But by our 3rd video, he was fully and totally invested. He kept me going on UA-cam. He would beg me every night to film an episode. He loves seeing himself on our TV.

Yeti is fed dry Canidae. There are good and bad options for dog food in either dry or wet food. Always is best to read ingredients, to be sure all natural ingredients are listed at the top of the ingredients list.

Hello, thanks for your video. I was needing lots of help with my shih tzu and which slicker brushes to buy. I think I will give the 1all number ones a try. Do you have any other ones that compare to the Chris ones that are in the middle price range of the all number ones and the Chris.

#1 All Systems brushes are very good brushes that I also recommend, that are super affordable. They have much shorter length tines than Chris Christensen brushes, but they have rounded heads too and come in various smaller sizes, which would be helpful for your little dog.
@@YetisPlace hi, yeah I like the Chris brushes but I just don’t see spending that kind of money on a brush for home use. I was trying to find some in the 30 dollar range but had no luck. The number ones are not cheap made are they? I was trying to find a middle ground ones but can’t seem to find that right video of what info I was hunting for except for yours I hope you do more on comparing dog grooming products it’s very helpful. Thanks for your help.

When the box opens for you, scroll down to where you can see #1 All Systems brushes. They are around $12 to mid $20. They also have tines that are specifically rounded to not cut your dog. They are high quality made, but without a high price.
You would go through about 3-4 or more of the cheaply made brushes, for just buying 1 Chris Christensen brush. So, keep that in mind.

Finally had the opportunity to watch this today! I have the CC big G, but I have only used it once. I'm not used to pulling the fur back like that, so definitely some learning. When I was using it a few days ago she yelped once, I felt horrible. I wondered if I had gotten the brush too far down in the fur? The metal on he brush feels OK but still not great if you got nicked by one. IDK is that even possible? Maybe I just pulled on her fur too hard that stroke? I had combed first with the CC oval brush and then was trying the slicker. Then I went to the CC buttercomb. Took me about an hour on my 8.5 week old pup, but I've never groomed a double coat before. She was so soft after I was done though! The next time I just used the oval brush and then I gave her a bath in the shower and blow dried her. Oh man she hates the dryer. I realized about 15 minutes in I should try to remove the end so the air, even on the lowest setting (flying pig pro) would be diffused even more. That helped her fear of it, but she still did not like it. I need to do some reading on how to get them used to the blower without traumatizing them. It wasn't the sound because I ran the hose under the bathroom door (surprisingly it fit because our bedroom is carpet and the bathroom is vinyl and the doors are raised for airflow) so the vac wasn't very loud sitting outside the bathroom. I just have lots of learning to do. :)
Grooming a Sam is certainly much easier if you hold back the fur while brushing. It'll allow you to get to their skin and outward. Helps with detangling, separating and poofing their coats. The CC Big G feels good to your dog when used in a downward motion. Yeti falls asleep when I'm using it. He never used to with non-CC brushes.
For grooming a double coated dog, I would also recommend a demating spray, like CC's Ice on Ice. Spray a little and then brush and comb. It'll melt out the tangles, making brushing much easier. Always start with the widest spaced tools first and work down to the closest spaced. I always start with either the CC bathing t-rake, or a demating rake from Greyhound Combs, followed by CC's Oval 35mm. Then I use the Big G and Baby G (Baby is useful around ears, legs and for puppy coats) and sometimes I follow with a CC butter comb, or a Greyhound closely spaced rake. They look like combs, but are on a rake handle, that makes it more comfortable for me to grip and use.
Another tool I would really recommend, is the CC 20mm Oval wood pin brush. It's SOOO gentle and is wonderful on puppy coats, delicate areas and is really helpful for getting your dog used to being brushed. I've used it on Yeti's areas that had shed down to his pink coat, where his nylon harness had pulled his coat out.
It takes time to brush a Samoyed, so start slowly, get them used to a grooming table while they're little. Have a lot of small treats, give them plenty of praise.
You won't need to give your Sam too many baths. You'll find that when they get covered head to toe in mud, once they dry, the mud miraculously dusts away, revealing their brilliant white coats. They're like teflon dogs. It's WONDERFUL!!! Get her used to the blow dryer, with really tasty treats. I've also found that using a sticky dog mat, filled with doggie peanut butter and stuck onto a bathtub, is a wonderful distraction. Get her used to the air blowing on her feet, then her legs, then her body, while she's dry. It'll take time, so be patient. Keep those sessions short, plenty of praise. It also helps to tire her out first, then use the sticky mat distraction technique.
@@YetisPlace I assume you mean the Greyhound Coat Master brushes when you mentioned their demating rake? Do those demating rakes cut/pull fur? I am curious if anyone has a video or book on all the different brush types and how they work. I'm a fairly technical person so when I understand why something is designed like it is, understanding how it is intended to work, I learn quicker.
I bought these Whole Hearted freeze dried dog treats, Samon and Chicken. So far I have mainly fed the Samon ones. I opened the bag of them and no joke the cat came bolting across the house and was all over the bag as I was opening it. Jenna my Samoyed LOVES them. They were a bit expensive, but I wanted something when I first brought her home that had one a single ingredient of the meat so I could ensure she would not get sick on the ride home or while adjusting to her new place. I'll definitely keep them on hand as high value treats in the future. My oldest daughter told me they probably would not have enough scent since they were freeze dried for them to be of interest to her. Nope, I think I could get her to do my day job if I fed her a one of those treats every hour, lol! I'm going to try to use these with the blower next time and see if I can get her more acclimated to it. I need to bathe her early this week as the info the vet gave me said after they complete their medication they should be bathed to ensure no cysts (I think?) are on their fur.
I honestly didn't believe the whole mud thing... But even as a puppy, she can come in looking pretty bad, me thinking what a terrible owner I am, and a few hours later she is sparkling white again. I'm sure everything else in the house won't be so sparkly though, lol! I just got her in from her last potty break and was taking advantage of her sleeping, as I didn't want to crate her since she was such a good girl going pee several times and going #2 as well. She loves my office setup, I am so thankful I did so much research and planned this out for her. She is unbelievably adorable as she sleeps behind me. It's a good thing because I'm sooo tired :)

I've also given baths after they've encountered skunks. I used a chemist's recipe for that, with Dawn dish soap, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide sponged on to neutralize. Hasn't happened with Yeti, thankfully. But, my Sam, Chewy....well he was out for revenge and it happened a few times.

I use the staggered rakes in both the smaller size and full size. It's like a comb, but on a rake. Great for demating. Has rounded heads, so Yeti falls asleep. It does NOT pull at all. If you encounter a mat, I would still use CC's Ice on Ice spray. Use a little, to help melt the mat, then follow it with either the Greyhound rake or CC rake. Both are extremely high quality products, used by those in dog shows.

@@YetisPlace Ironically I watched that video since you posted this. Sometimes when we sit down in the evenings to eat I'll throw a random YT video on the TV and that one came up as recommended. We have several wet springs on our property, so I know this is inevitable for me at some point! And the skunk, oh man, we have them around here, but I've only seen them at night on my trail cameras. But you can smell them around when you are outside in the mornings/evenings. I hope I don't encounter that!
Oh, so the brush of doom is the greyhound comb? lol! That picture at the end with all the stuff in his fur, that is what my Jenna looks like when she comes back out of the woods. It's hard, because half of me says she's too beautiful to play like that, the other half says she's a dog and needs to have adventures! So her dad is just going to have to learn to clean her quicker!
Oh, before I end, one more thought. I let her go a few feet own over the hill in the front yard yesterday at the edge of the woods, and she got caught in a thorn bush (either multi-flora rose or blackberry, not sure, it was dead). I saw it by her, but didn't think she would get against it. I felt like the worst dog parent ever when she brushed up against it and it got caught in her fur. She started yipping, I was panicking trying to get her free. I didn't have my pocket knife or I would have tried to cut it at the base because she would not stop pulling from it making things worse. I was trying to pull the vine out of her fur and it ended up pulling a tiny bit of fur with it. Her fur was slightly matted to start with where she got caught because she lays in water around her water bowl and she had gotten that one section of fur wet before we had gone outside. I wondered if it even would have happened had that one spot of fur not been wet. I guess the reason I mention this, I was curious if others had issues with briar bushes and sammies, especially in the woods. Some dogs like beagles and labs just go tearing through that stuff and it doesn't even bother them. But my pup, a single vine's thorns instantly tangled into her fur. I wasn't sure if this was a normal for sammy fur, or maybe because she is just a puppy. I'll have to deal with this a lot because unfortunately we have a lot of that stuff here.
