4:15 fun fact, Asuka's uf3 is the fastest whiffing mid in the game, its whiff recovery is only 20f which is even faster than EWGF (23f)

I was in the army in rec center playing with her I think it was tekken 5 I accidentally pulled an insane combo and won in a major upset. I just acted like "yeah, fuck around and find out." I got out of there to avoid any potential embarrassment.

2 minutes in and I already learned new combo alternatives that seem better when you start closer to the wall. I tend to not play a very defensive Asuka but it is nice to learn more about her crushing moves. The d/b+3 nerf hurts more than f/f+3 losing the ability to avoid highs in my opinion, but she is still my favorite character to play

Looking at Asuka and Marduk make think of the conversation you guys were havng about the shared tools in Tekken during the podcast. It's like after Tekken 4 onwards they started experimenting with the formula a lot. Like Asuka not having a 1 jab but having a lot of above average defensive tools, and Marduk having a special tackle. In T7 I think Noctis and Gigas are pretty bold attempts at re approaching character design as well. Like Noctis not having generic "get off
me" tools, but has strong keep out.

Sline deserves a mention. Best asuka when it comes to ki charge/ creative oki setups. Streams on twitch
Honestly, sline is potentially the best asuka player in the world; the only real contender for that title is Dimeback since not many people play asuka. Wish that they could attend tournaments.

Only started playing Tekken last year and I get a substantial amount of Tekken knowledge on this channel. Always so succinct yet extensive when it needs to be. This one sheds some light as to why I had such a hard time against Asuka players in the early going. Much thanks for your efforts sir, you're a credit to the Tekken FGC in my book. 👍

She is a highly evasive character with great mids, most of which are safe. I don't use her as much as I did in T5, but she is still fun to use. Tip: When fighting her, if the player likes spamming her reversal (hold version), delayed hop kick her face!
In my opinion, Josie is her counter pick. And I main Josie!!!

I know this is just random happenstance, but your King breakdown really helped my gameplay and just last week I was looking for an Asuka breakdown to help my girlfriend since Asuka is her main. Another thing i would have mentioned in her strenghts are her homing moves, which are probably some of the best of the game, one being plus on block (but high) and the latter being a safe CH launcher mid. Other than that, excellent video!
They're both slow as fuck and pretty meh, honestly. Nothing like pre-S3 Kazumi B2, Alisa 4, Paul qcb 4, Hwo's backlash, etc.

This video is extremely helpful! I was allwya wondering why is it that she's so low in tier-list despite her strong tools. Now I know she lacks the most important fundamental tool that sets up any pressure. 1 jab. Knowing that Oscar player will most likely go for jab strings instead of neutral jab is hella helpful.

Something people tend to forget about
Thanks to the ballerina spin it is impossible to step or interrupt ws1+2 after ff3 on hit (will trade with jabs) and I would honestly take a potential 90+ damage ch launcher over a knockdown anytime. especially in clutch moments
Its also worth noting that 21d1+2 is a new higher damage ender after a ground hit rage drive

Asuka is a very cool character but is held back by a few things. The lack of a 1 jab is just a hell no for me. Otherwise I would play her more
, and that is probably why she does not see much play at the high level(when it comes to top 16 to top 8). The 1 jab is the most important move in the game. She was extremely overrated in season 2 in my opinion.
And she's still overrated in S3.
Also, nobody talks about her poor tracking, big weakness in a lot of situations
I remember people were putting her in top 3 at the beginning of s2 and then was like nvm
I had to drop her because of the 1 jab. Doesn't match my playstyle despite my love for her :(
Sounds like ya give up when a character can't carry you based of tier slutting. Get good at guarding, have proper reads and you can still use Asuka. It's sad what fighting games become. "There's one move that's minus ima drop this character" then ya the same people that if lost to Asuka ya call them a scrub character. Her jab is good dude. You just don't know how to use her.

Why is Sline not part of Top Player list? He's like the king of Asuka setplay. Pretty sure he came up with many of the ki charge patterns and unblockable setups

You missed out a fact regarding how bad Asuka's jab is. Her jab is the only one(unless you include Jack f+2) with almost 30 frames of recovery. you can sidestep her jab and do a 20 frame launcher, this is not possible with most jabs.
As for weaknesses, her entire moveset can be sidewalked to the right.
Isn't 2,1,d1+2 a decent wall ender? Some used ff1 before to get a 50/50 afterwards in df3 / d1+2 as opponent goes into FDFA, now 2,1,1+2 does the same with more damage and an option to even go FC, giving access to fc df2.
What I think is worth noting are her whiff recoveries on certain moves, especially ss4 and uf3. UF3 recovers insanely fast and is only slightly minus on block allowing for movement afterwards. Its recovery on whiff is less that of an electric wind god fist by a few frames(20 vs 23 iirc).

My main in Tekken 5, once you've figured out how to counter everything she's honestly pretty OP. If you can get Tekken Lord with everyone you learn their strengths and weaknesses but I haven't found her weakness yet, I'm sure that might have changed in later games but I haven't played them yet

No, thank you for puting her weaknesses on display. I have been struggling with her playing style since the tekken 2 came out of my old skating ring. Yeah, I Know, its a very long time. Hope to see more of these. These are great. 👍
she has a bunch of safe moves. There are several ways to play oscar depending on the character. She actually has a vortex. 1+2 is a fast low that leads to her strings and you can spam and just jab string to keep them guessing. once they start ducking and pressing its easy. if they block you have short range 5050 and a guard break and throws

I remember Fergus saying Asuka has some of the strongest wall game in Tekken, due to large variety of lows, high damage, 50/50's on oki, 50/50 at the wall in general( SS2 / FF3 are good wallsplat mids, especially considering how evasive SS2 is; d1+2 giving a free followup for big damage and resetting the situation), good counterhits, df1,4 beats mashing and wallsplats after an opponent gets hit by a DB3. Must be forgetting something, but Asuka's pretty strong at the wall!

Asuka is like my main for like 4 years for the time I actually tried to take Tekken seriously when T5 came out. Aside from Leo, I am glad Asuka is also well loved and you made your guide for her season 3 changes also really good. Though, when Season 4 drops, could you try making a Leo guide or overview?

Asuka's can cans are indeed huge.
I think her ff3 doing the spin on NH is a buff, gives you some options with WS 1+2 and choosing to cancel, if the opponent presses anything after being hit with ff3 NH they’re going to eat that CH WS 1+2 which leads to big boy damage
She doesn't have much of a standing mix-up game though. The old KD was really far but at least it pushed the opponent towards the wall. Splitting straws but we still think it's a minor nerf.
That Blasted Salami true, I still prefer the change. Mainly because of infinite stages, if I know they’ll block after the NH I can always cancel the WS 1+2 into her crouch command grab or d 1+2. It’s nice having options now if you choose to go for a mixup

just got to yellow ranks with Asuka after a month of trying. I only ran into 2 other Asuka's and they were just dan ranks trying her out with complete beginner play. people hate her for her counter game but there aren't many Asuka players out there either.
