Just had my bow restrung and was messing with mods changing my draw length. Less than 50 arrows in I drew back on a new length and when i was letting it back down when I somehow twisted my wrists and hit my thumb release. String jumped the bottom cam and now I'll have to restring after turkey season. Expensive lesson learned after owning bows for 20 plus years. It happens far more than people will ever admit.

Newer high end bows are built to withstand a lot, and they are tested to withstand 100’s of dry fires. Obviously not ideal, but your bow is fine. Bows bought at Cabelas, Sportsman’s or Amazon will definitely derail.

I've done that before, and thank God my bow was fine afterwards. We all can make mistakes, and sometimes it's good idea to just slow down for a bit.

i am always amazed that compound shooters are not able to pull their bow. they always have to cheat over the drawweight into the letoff. srsly drawing bow facing upwards is dangerous. put a arrow in, draw a little bit, put the bow onto the target and pull to full draw. stop putting your bow arm up, if the release fails you have an arrow flying at 45degree. i can not stress this enough, compound bows are fine but not to cheat up to higher drawweights. if you can not pull it get a weaker bow.

I still don't understand how people manage to accidentally dry fire their bow. I shot for over 10 years , never happened to me. The only incident I ever had was a cheap back strap release break off on me half way through a draw but still wasn't a dry fire
