dude this is such a great vid. it shows how x14 actually looks in someone's hand unlike other videos where we don't get this feel!
I had the x14r1 and enjoy it but ended up returning it because I wasnt financially stable to keep it (had the 3060 model) a year later I ended up buying the r2 version and love it. I like how the inside uses more of a normal hard plastic instead of that soft stuff they used on the first one and I also like the 16:10 display on this as well. These laptops are so sexy and perform well:)
Just had one delivered about a week ago. Great, nicely built laptop but 2 issues which I personally consider big negatives:
1- Sound is crap. But I magine for a thin laptop, you cant really fit in a good woofer for bass. However apple is known to have good bass in their thin laptops, so why can't alienware?
2- This is a big one for me. It runs on an intel Iris Xe and switches to the RTX 3060 in gaming mode. I prefer gaming on triple monitors for which you need to enable Nvidia Surround. On this laptop, surround spans to only 2 external monitors (1xHDMI and 1xUSB-C) and the builtin monitor turns off. The other 2xUSB-Cs supports external monitors too but they connect to intel graphics and not nvidia hence no surround on them.
So in short, I can have 5 active monitors (3xUSB-c + HDMI + builtin) at the same time on intel Xe but games can span on only two external monitors (1xusb-c and 1 HDMI) with Nvidia surround. All other monitors including the built-in one, go black. No one flight-sims on 2 monitors because the centre of the screen is the bezels where the 2 monitors join.
There's a MUX switch
Compared to all other computers in the same size Alienware x14 is the best. I took a month to read and watch everything and to compare and I've just got mine. Almost 10 mouths after its released it is still the best out there.That's the only one with thuderbolt 4 and there is 2 ports! The only one with hdmi 2.1. The only 14" one that weight under 4 pounds and no need for a big power suply who often weight more than the laptop. It is less that 2/3 pound more compare to surface pro 9 with keybord and power suply and surface have no gaming card. Who care if cant change my memory? I have DDR5 5200mhz 32gb and no need for more to work or gaming. The M.2 ssd is the fastest gen 4 on the market and you can upgrade it but 2tb is enough for me and there is also a microSD slot and usb C and A ports for dock, usb keys or external drives. The rtx 3060 is far better then the 3050ti for rog flow z13 or x13 and the screen is larger. And on benchmark the difference between that and the 3070 in other laptop of the same size is negligible. Yes some have better card but without givin enough power to use it well. Playing at 1080p AAA games with maxout is not a problem at all. Intel i7 12 th gen is way better for me than amd, for thudebolot 4 of course but for way more. Speaking of that with thuderbolt 4 you can run a EGPU with external display with a very small difference compared to the same gpu in a destop. I can charge it on all ports. It's the best laptop ever made for travelling and the battery have a great autonomy if you dont play heavy aaa games. Wifi 6E blutooth 5.2. Also with PS Plus and Nvidia GeFOrce Now and Xbox Cloud Gaming who need a rtx 3090ti in his laptop? Welcome to 2022! Anyway i have massive tower for that. There is no other competitor with the same stuff pack in so small computer. That laptop deserved at less 9/10 and with almost the half on the price for a Razor!

I am on the market for either the g14 or the x14; which one woudl you recommend? I like the build quality of the alienware and the leaning towards that...but the g14 has some nice specs. Is the screen on the g14 that much better than the x14? and performance? The laptop wont be my daily driver is more for traveling (at least onec a month) so perfomance is not my main gripe but if its a huge diffrence i rather get the better performing one. Let me know what you think. And really liked your vid!
G14 in a close finish. No question.
I tried the G14 and armoury crate was terrible.. and the input delay of the screen was horrendous think it was around 14-17ms…
Placing it on your porch is puralator or the deliver people not Alienware

I would be annoyed with the branding as well. I’m super annoyed you can’t buy the new Alienware slim 240 watt adapter and 330 watt. There is so much more I wish Alienware would do
Did you resolve the missing dongle thing? its supposed to be a USB C ethernet adapter, it was also missing when i received my x14 :/
Just opened mine and it was the same for me...
USB C Ethernet adapter doesn’t exist with this laptop you have to buy one separate

Are you going to show gaming benchmarks for the x14? I am seriously considering this laptop though I would get the highest specs if I did but would love to see how the thermal performance holds up in a real world test.
Thermal is allright, but the power consumption of this laptop is pretty low. Like its a 65w 3060.

The biggest issue for me is just the bump at the back which makes it almost as wide as a 15"

It's sad the latest Alienware's are deprived of the RGB touchpad... for me its the most WOW factor of an Alienware. My last laptop was the Alienware 13 R3 OLED model...i don't think I'll be buying any new Alienware after this. Much better to buy a Surface Book. Alienware should"ve kept the RGB touchpad and add a longer screen, like 16:10 or 3:2 format like other manufacturers. The last one was the m17x r2, and I really miss that beast!

What's preferable, in your opinion, if you were going for a big screen laptop... 4k @ 17", or 4k OLED at 15"? I can't find a 17" 4K OLED. I have money to waste here!

It depends. I love the contrast and crispiness of the 15" OLED. There's something about that reflective screen that makes games look almost 3D. The only drawback is, as of now, you're only going to get 60Hz. If you choose the 17", then you're able to go up to 120Hz. My solution was to ensure that if I got the 15" OLED, I'd get a 3070 or 3080 so it can drive an external display at 1440p and above 60Hz, if I needed those extra frames.

The x17 r2 now has a 4k screen option if that's your thing
