Thank you for the wonderful explanation! I have a question: If your child is having difficulty memorizing some of the facts in one table (eg, let's say 6x3, 6x7 and 6x9), do we move on to the next set (7's) while still reviewing the ones they don't yet have memorized? In the past, I have held a child back who was struggling to memorize facts; we both got discouraged and moved on to a different program. But I would like to return to CM in Math and am concerned I will run into this again. Thank you!
Thank you for reaching out with your question! If you have followed the process as outlined and feel your child has spent a sufficient amount of time on a given table, you can move on to the next table while continuing to review the previous table. Ideally, you would move on to the next table when the student no longer needs to use the written table to solve the multiplication problems. We want the child to proceed on solid ground, however we also do not want the student to become frustrated, bored, or lose confidence. There are a few ideas mentioned here for varying the practice under "step 3" in the blogpost version of this episode. Here is a link to the blogpost version, look specifically under "step 3" and "when to advance" as this is where these ideas and suggestions are emphasized.

If I had been taught this way, maybe I would have had an easier time with math! I never learned multiplication tables, should I teach myself before I get to this point with my kids? (Oldest will be in kindergarten in a year so I do have quite some time before we get to multiplication)
This is a great question! You do not need to be an expert in math or study ahead of your child using a Charlotte Mason approach, you can learn right alongside them. This workshop will be available free for the next week. In this workshop, Richele goes into more depth on this topic and provides some great encouragement that we do not need to be mathematicians in order to lead our children through math.
