He’s actually outside your window. “How-”
“Fire escape,” he says, climbing in, “Your doorman is intimidating.”
You shake your head. “Peter Parker.”
“Yeah,” he says looking around, his face softens, “Oh, this is your room. Books, shoes.”
“Very observant.”
“Oh hey, uh, I got your mom, um, these,” he reaches into his backpack and pulls out a sad bouquet of flowers.
“Oh,” you say rubbing your arms together. “Beautiful.”
“Yeah, they’re beautiful, right? They were-they were nice.”
“Yeah, they still are.” you smile at him and reach for the flowers.
He pulls them out of my reach, “I’m sorry.” he shakes his head, “I’m gonna keep these.” he shoves them back in his pack.
You reached out and rub his shoulders, “I loved them, thank you.”
He still can’t look at you. Poor thing is embarrassed. He pulls you in tightly and the two of you sway back and forth on the heels of your feet.
“Lets get out of here,” he whispers into your ear, “Just for a minute, can we?”
“No, Peter,” you speak into his sweater.
“Yes, yes, yes,”
“No, there’s a giant lizard man out there. And there’s a thunderstorm. No.”
“We gotta stop him though. I have to ‘cause I created him.”
You peel away from him for a moment, “What?”
“I gave him an equation. It made all of this possible.”
“What equation?”
“Something my father had been working on. Secretly, though I realize why he kept it secret. Point is, this is my responsibility, and I have to fix it.”
The both of you waddle over to the bed and lay down. “Why do we always get into these situations? Why can’t we ever just…cuddle? Why is it cuddle with so much anxiety?”
“Yeah but those are the best kind.”
He’s got a point. The best cuddling is the kind where it’s so warm and safe next to your partner that you can physically feel the anxiety go away. And that’s what happened that night. You and Peter cuddled and went away.
