I knew from the beginning that I couldn't just get a HD and ride into the wind. I went to a Kawasaki dealer because I remember a friend having a 1973 750 Triple Green Meanies. My first bike is the 2019 Z400 Naked Ninja, I went to learn to ride class. (I'm 63 and a 4 year cancer survivor) after a year I have all of 18 miles on my bike. I don't get far from home and get tired. I hope to ride more next year.

Sounds like a great choice for a 1st bike. I retired almost 2 years ago, and after being away from motorcycles for around 30 years, started back with a well used (but not bad) 1988 Suzuki Katana 1100. I have to admit after being away from riding for so long I thought I made a wrong choice for a while, but am loving it now.

Greg T I’ll probably check them out. One notable thing is that we didn’t get the C90 in Italy, as with the whole licensing and cc system a 90cc isn’t considered useful here. 14 year olds can ride 50ccs at most, 16 year olds can ride 125s, most city commuters choose either 125s and 150s (150s can legally go on the highway here) or they go straight to a 500 to a 750, some even more.

You should go for the z900. I’ve been riding since I’m 14 and I’m 23 now (so I’ve had lots of varied experience but I’m not that mature yet hahaha) by now I’ve ridden 1000s on track and street as well as mx and enduro bikes and street bikes etc. I recently tried a friends new z900 when I went down to the south of Italy this summer (I live in the north) and it’s plenty fast enough. You’ll have a blast. Put a full pipe on it and it screams too! I’m assuming you’re in the US so there’s no point recommending smaller bikes with the huge roads you have around there. Anyway it’s a great bike, go for it!

Get the z900 then a zx10 after. My old and slow 06 zx10r will power wheelie in 3rd gear 1st does a 110mph. It also has over 100whp more than the 650 does at the crank. If you twist the throttle a smidge to much in first at anything over 35mph the front wheel is going sky high if you dont let off.

As a 41yr old learner i can say the age thing is a real thing i started in December last year on a hyosung gv250, after i got hit by a txting driver in a car i had a rethink of my choice of motorcycle and bought an adventure bike.
Cost was also a big thing, i didnt want an expensive bike i was either going to be hit on or i could potentially drop.
With a few km under my belt and with the ravages of time taking its toll on my body i wanted something upright and comfortable for long rides.
Here in NZ gas mileage is important for several reasons, one is there are large gaps between stations, in some areas you might have to ride 200km or more to get more fuel and second, gas is nearly $2 a litre.
I ended up with a 2005 Suzuki V-Strom LAMs approved bike.
I'm 6' and 89kg and this bike suits me just fine.
I go a little bit off road for fishing and hunting and the bike gets me everywhere i want to go without a fuss!

    • @arealperson9673
      @arealperson9673 3 роки тому

At first I thought that the price of gas wasn't that bad.
My mind for some reason treated a litre as almost a gallon. That is wrong, it's almost 4 liters per 1 gallon(3.785 to be exact if a litre is a liter). As a comparison where I live gas is about 2.61 USD per gallon, when it goes to about 2.90ish we consider that as a lot. Man that is a lot, I hope gas prices go down for you even if it's not likely.
Stay safe and hydrated out there, have a wonderful day.

Bought my first bike last month after years of excuses and being talked out of it. 2012 Suzuki VStrom DL650. Found it on Facebook marketplace, paid cash and got a smoking good deal for a bike with only 14k miles and lots of fun upgrades (heated grips!) that I didn’t have to pay for. I managed the process a little backwards...bought bike and gear, rode it around my neighborhood, then took and passed an MSF course. Now I ride everyday! Absolutely am in love with it and wish I had started earlier, I’m 33, but better late than never. Love the channel and watching the vids. Definitely helped push me to buy a bike after friends who ride encouraged me as well.

I was familiar with lawnmowers and beater cars so I went with it. Had to hide it from the parents till I got it together. Crappy brakes and electrics, not much power but it rode nice and I loved it. Funny that you should mention the Svartpilen in your video.
I actually purchased the Svartpilen 401 as my "first bike" but feel like I am quickly outgrowing it, it is so nimble and loads of fun.
But, now I am on the lookout for my "SECOND BIKE" as I progress, something with a bit more power and stability at higher speeds (I live in Germany, so I need some reserves to pass cars on backroads and, should I be on the Autobahn, the security to go faster if I need to).
I really love the feel of the one-cyclinder and am contemplating getting the Svartpilen 701 (which I haven't test ridden yet) for its 690cc engine which I know and appreciate from the Duke 690. I love the way that engine accelerates from low revs up through to the next gear change.
However, I can imagine going off on dirt roads because I like to Kitesurf, and am looking for a bike that can handle gravel roads and patchs of sand near the beach. Yet, I still want to be able to have fun on windy roads. In fact, I will probably spend more time on the road than on the beach.
So, my question is (or are):
Is the Desert Sled the better option? It really is a nice looking bike. Very cool indeed.
My concern is the weight. Is it too heavy? The Svartpilen 701 weighs about 350lbs vs. the DS's 450lbs.
But, is the Svartpilen 701 really up to it, in the sand and on the gravel?
And, finally, at 5'10" with a 31" inseam, is the Desert Sled too high for me in Stop-and-Go city traffic? I haven't sat on one yet, so I don't know the answer to that yet.
    Your thoughts are very welcome.
And, very nice review (you are really good at this). Thanks.

I'm really into the idea of getting a Royal Enfield Int 650. I'm mid-30's and haven't ridden anything two wheels except a bike for years but I'm MSFing it up and really want something that is comfortable, looks good, and can do highways while mostly cruising around.

In the UK (And Europe) the A2-Class (300-500cc, 47bhp - RC390, CB500, R3, Ducati Scrambler 400 etc ) is a booming group because they tend to be inexpensive bikes, fast enough for young/inexperienced riders to get their kicks.
For unrestricted licenses, the starting point are the typical go-to's; SV650, ER6/Ninja 650, Honda Hornet 600, VFR 800, BMW F800, maybe Bandits and Diversions if a commuter-orientated bike is needed and these can all be had for £2000-2500.
Any of that lot will blow a new-riders back doors off, be cheap to own and run, be reliable and do most things a new rider could ever want.
A first bike doesn't have to be glamourous or unique, it just needs to fuel the passion. My first bike was a 95 Kawasaki GPZ1100, because it was cheap and I love my bike sports-tourers. I own a Sprint ST1050 and am considering swapping it for either a K1300s or VFR1200, so that old Kwak was definitely a good choice for me and made sure there will always be a motorcycle in my garage.

“First” bike was a Honda CT70 that my dad rode as a kid. Was maybe 10-12 when I first rode it solo. Rode it well into my late 20s.
Fantastic little machine. Used to putt around my grandparent’s neighborhood and then go bomb around on trails. Never bothered to ride on public roads, cause well it was screaming to do anything over 30 mph.
Honestly, it was just fun to be on two wheels. Now, I’m looking at a 300 class bike for an around town commuter on sunny days (not many in the PNW). No
Ambition to be a street Rossi in my early 30s and I’m cool with that. Just want to be on two wheels and enjoy the experience.

Ok, I was a city kid that was moved to the country at 12. Rode the bus to a different town to go to school. Quickly saw that most of the kids had dirt bikes or trikes.
But my folks were not the type to get me a bike. So I asked my grandfather if I could have the old bike he had at the cabin. Me and granddad got in running in a very short amount of time (granddad taught small engine practical and theory repair at the university for years and as a result I could diagnose, tear down, repair and rebuild simple things like a lawnmower or a rototiller by time I was 10).
And just like that I was the proud owner of a perfect 1968 Honda CB350 (funny since I’m born in 67). Perfect bike to learn on. I’d been riding sleds since I was 8.
    So;
    1968 Honda cb350
Basket triump trident (too much work and beyond my financial ability)
1978(?) Kawasaki kz1100 (traded the triumph for it) (got rid of, way too heavy sluggish bike. Ok for highway)
    1983 Suzuki gs550ef
    1986 Suzuki gs1150ef
Then got married- kids- houses - businesses - etc. Just never could justify getting the next bike.
But learning to ride on gravel (both bikes and cars) gave me valuable skills. I actually learned to drive in a dirt track late model stock car 😁 in the pasture behind our house.

After having my licence for a month I've realized it's no longer my dream bike. So I've traded it in for a KTM Duke 890 R with quickshifter and cruise control etc. hopefully that will give me the feeling I'm looking for!

I do wish the clutch had a bit larger of a friction zone, that the throttle wasn't as twitchy, and that it had some modern tech like ABS, but I know the skills will build over time.

Message to all the Yam Fams out there, I bought a used 2018 Honda CBR500R around last year for $3800 with 4900miles. I’ve driven it daily in Texas since the day I bought it and I do not regret it. 471cc , 426lbs wet is stable at 75mph, and 5second 0-60 time is plenty quick enough. Always look on OfferUp or for used bikes because bikes depreciate drastically, and dealership fees rack up nearly $600-$700 more out the door.

Returned to riding at 51. Rode a CBX in my college years. While we didn't yeet ourselves into infinity back then, I did nearly accomplish a similar feat, well ahead of my time. Coming back I was looking at a Kawasaki Concours, seemed like a logical choice given my past ride. Test rode on the day I got my endorsement. Rode nice, power for days, but not how I remembered riding from my CBX days. A friend who rode told me I would be happier on a R1200RT than I could imagine. I hadn't been a R-bike fan back then and come on, why settle for 125ish HP? Then I rode one. Oh my, this was the way I felt riding back when. Leans in the corners? yup. Quick? yup Comfort? Far more. Was it brand new? Heck no, I ain't rich. But it's the ride I was looking for so I got lucky I guess. Will I get a new(er) one? Some day, but since the first one will be paid off, I plan on keeping it anyway. If I'm gonna hoard things, I'm hoarding good stuff.
