This gives off a sense of dread, as you look at the murals and see grump’s being thrown in a pit to then be mutilated by bugsnaxs and then be forgotten
some of the most important and horrifying exposition in the game is delivered by a character named “Alegander Jamfoot”, who is a poor millenial with a useless degree and crushing student debt. he works for a shady secret society in hopes of one day being able to pay rent. this is the beauty of bugsnax’s writing.
listening to this and remembering what it was like to jump off the end of the boat ingame and ACTUALLY end up in the triplicate space while having NO idea that was going to happen makes me feel a little bad for people who will first play the game post dlc release, not having had knowledge of the original triplicate space error and the speculation around it and then suddenly, it was real.
I love the feel of conflict this song gives off. Is it worth to expose the truth of Snacktooth? Is this expedition even worth it at all? Which hits hard when you see the ending, there will be more Grumpus just like Lizbert, Bronica and Grumpbeard, THEY'LL ALWAYS COME BACK THERE, no matter how cursed this place is gonna be made up to be. Just that mood of "No matter how much you'll learn the truth, it won't mean anything"... DAAMN YOU BUUUGSNAAAAXX!!
I just can't get it out of my head. The fact that the more we learn about these "Snakolytes", or the "Bugsnax", the more apparent it becomes that- despite knowing all of these secrets and the true horrors of Snaktooth Island- that it changes nothing. The Island will come back. The Bugsnax will always claim one after another. Those who are unfortunate enough to fall into madness. Their hopes crushed, and dreams long forgotten...Looking to the Bugsnax as their only salvation. And seeing as a stowaway Strabby was on the airship...It's only a matter of time. Edit: Looking at this today and now knowing they made a card game, I am honestly hyped about a potential Bugsnax 2. Here's to hoping, folks 🍷🗿
Love this piece so much. And how it's dynamic with the space as you move from room to room. Like with the pendulum room you hear a ticking sound, and in the big space with the window it swells and sounds more full. God I could listen to this all day. I enjoyed Bugsnax quite a bit when it was initially released and it has only gotten better with the new content. I hope we get to see more of this!
A place where you don't belong. Were you really supposed to find this place? Are the things you learn here worth it? Will things be forever changed? Possibly. How much are you willing to dig to learn the truth of everything?
The strange part to me is that Clumbernut somehow knew you were going to find this place, let alone _guiding you with a clue_ once you found the key to the place. Especially knowing that she herself is involved with the Snakolytes. Though if we remember the tapes, if you listen to them again, they’re interview answers, similar to the ones you ask Lizbert in terms of finality. They’re responses to unheard questions about the subject’s name, their occupation, why they’re on Snaktooth, what is this place, and follow-up questions. Judging from the hat that we find here, the exact type of hat that Clumby wears, this was the interview just before Clumbernut was inducted. Likely under poor circumstances. Leading you there, even if cryptically, was likely a rebellious act. Maybe against the Snakolytes, maybe against Jamfoot. She isn’t fond of him after all, and he _is_ where he is as punishment for _something._ Although she asks you what you’re going to do with the answers you have now What is it we’re _supposed_ to do? At least we know that she’s _at least_ neutral to us. In one ending she doesn’t advocate for our disappearance. We know she doesn’t like Jamfoot. She may not be likely to follow his lead on digging up dirt on the Survivors of Snaktooth. But this wasn’t a direct call, and we never hear her response. The real question of the hour: Why all this?
Personally I'm thinking once confronted, the player character (and probably Floofty, too) will immediately jump in to join Clumby and Jamfoot in researching the island's secrets. Possibly with sequel game bait of the rest of the team reluctantly coming back to Snaktooth to help, much to Lizbert and Eggabell's surprise.
"Well, aren't you an intrepid little journalist, coming into this secret hideaway just to ask questions of the first stranger you see... Hmm. I DO respect the pursuit of knowledge, and I HAVE been down here for...waaay too long. Go ahead. Question me if you dare."
It sounds oddly similar to Outer Wilds. I also get like, hugely built up to, tragic but climactic ending vibes from this. Like something that's been built up to for a very long time, and the ending turns out to be the saddest but most climactic part of the whole story. This feels like it would play when you find that ending, or as the credits roll, leaving you to sit there and run over the implications the ending has for both the story you just witnessed, and the future.
Literally listening to Outer Wilds while replying, it does give off that melancholic, ethereal vibe. Big recommend to Ghost of the Past from Thomas Was Alone and Solitude from Notam of Wind for similar feeling!
I mean, if you think about it, what you said can apply to Bugsnax, what with the cycle of Grumpuses coming to the island and disappearing, the reveal of the snax being parasites and the implications of said reveal and the secret group that seems to worship bugsnax. Something's bound to happen again and our intrepid journalist might not be able to help.
This song gives me: finding a place that tells you about time right before a big disaster that wiped everyone out and all you can you can do is look at the logs, before everything goes quiet. All you can think is how unaware and lively those people were before they were wiped out suddenly.
Lyrics I came up with: The three queens, The signed B, The myst’ry, And Clumby. Their meaning? I can’t see. When I came here, I thought I’d save myse-lf. But then I learned I could save. But from what? And now I see I have a destiny-y. The three queens, The signed B, And Clumby Their meaning? Is in reach. When I came here, I thought I'd save myse-lf . But then I learned I could save. This song and "Snaxburg At Rest" are the two best songs in the game!
