    The X-19 was my first "Large Joe vehicle" I remember going into Toy Master with my mum as a kid t pick p a few random Joes and the X-19 was standing by the door... The box was heavily damaged and it was drastically reduced in price... So I picked that up :) Ghost Rider was my first experience of an O Ring in a Joe snapping... Still breaks my heart to this day lol

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 років тому

      I hope your heartbreak was short lived! Snapped o-rings are never a deal breaker. Tho before anyone taught me how to use a screw driver I used to throw the figures away once their o-rings went!!! I was an idjit.
      But I'm glad you had this awesome jet growing up! I salivated over its catalogue image but only got it as an adult.

    • @magaz

      Sadly I wasn't technical minded enough back then to work out how to repair him. So for some reason I placed him ontop of the tumble drier in between the work surface and the top of the drier where he remained for a good few years. I'm not sure where he went after that, but he's certainly not with the rest of my Joes... :(

    • @magaz

      Also... That Jet that Roabdblock gives to Ghostrider at the end... I had that... And some others, I can't for the life of me recall what they were though...

      well... That googlefu session brought back a massive nostalgia trip! I seem to recall being really jealous of a friend who had that "battle blaster" that made the standard 90's sound effects with his... I'm fairly sure I'll still have some of these at my lockup with all the other rando toys... Next time I'm over there I know what I'm looking for!

    Cool review. This was my first GI Joe Jet that I've owned when I was younger. Complete with box. Sadly, I have to sell her. Gives me fond memories of my Phantom Stealth X-19 and the fun I I had her. The details of the cockpit was the best feature this toy have. I miss this jet. Fortunately, The following yeas, I manage to get the Sky-striker and The Cobra Rattler that year too. Makes me want to review some of my other vintage GI Joe toys because of this. Keep up the the great reviews!

      The F-19A Ghostrider is seen in Chapter 17 of the novel, "The Frisbees of Dreamland". It figures prominently throughout the novel, during a pre emptive strike into Eastern Europe, & later taking out Soviet forces in West Germany.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  6 років тому +1

      For years that is exactly what I used to do. But I now justify it that his HUD is super sophisticated and all over the cockpit glass. And being right in the nosecone like that offers unparalleled visibility. Like you see next to nothing of the plane at all! Like totally unassisted supersonic flight.

    • @gazz_N7
      @gazz_N7 6 років тому

      I can see that too. I just love the Gunstar. Never had this one though, last fighter I had was the Conquest, man that was a cool design.. not to say this one isn't, though with the laser guns out on the sides, those open panels kinda makes it look a little like Firefox. Damn, now I wish I had gotten one..

    Great review, awesome jet, I don't this thing would ever launch off an air craft carrier in real life, it doesn't seem to be designed for that. Oh and it uses that terrible night raven design how the landing gears attach to the jet.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  2 роки тому +1

      These gears are worse, if you can believe that. I believe as the stories go, they said it could not be done, overly complex. Maybe it should have been left at that!

  • @mcbennet8024
    @mcbennet8024 2 роки тому

    It's a long shot but I thought I'd ask on here..does the Joburg team or anyone in the community know about how the landing gear on this thing jams up? It seems like a somewhat common problem. I recently acquired one with damaged landing gear..I replaced the rattling front landing gear thinking that would do the trick, but no dice. I've read that taking it apart and re-aligning the sliding mechanism might work, but that was actually the first thing I attempted and I couldn't figure it out, it seems. Any advice?

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  2 роки тому

      What’s the nature of the jam? Doors catching the front gear?

    • @mcbennet8024
      @mcbennet8024 2 роки тому

      @@gijoburg It seems that way, yeah. I feel like those prongs that jut out from either side of the front gear flaps get wedged into the landing gear when in the "up" position. There's some kind of tension in the front of the plane when using the mechanism, so it feels like those prongs are caught in the wheel? I have to manually pry the wheel free to get the landing gear to work properly.

  • @MCDJACDC
    @MCDJACDC 2 роки тому +1

    Okay, so after watching Chasing 80s Toys and this review on the Ghost Phantom, what is the best position for the landing gear to be in? 🤔

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  2 роки тому +1

      I keep mine in flight mode. And I have it hanging with fishline. But before that I used to rest it on cigarettes boxes lol. -P

    • @MCDJACDC
      @MCDJACDC 2 роки тому

      @@gijoburg does leaving it with the gear down stress the plastics?

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  2 роки тому +1

      @@MCDJACDC not necessarily. I’d say opening and closing it multiple times would. My issue with leaving the gear deployed is that it stretches the rubber bands that snap the doors shut and keeps them in the stretched position. Surely over time that will slacken the bands and make them less effective? I suppose they’re easy enough to replace tho.

    • @MCDJACDC
      @MCDJACDC 2 роки тому

      @@gijoburg that makes sense now ... wonder what size the bands are and how extensive the surgery is on replacements?

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! It always depends on the figure but since it doesn’t use back plugs but rather seatbelts your standard size modern will fit the back seat just fine. The front seat looks cramped for an o ring, expect it to look particularly snug for a modern but since the figure is reclined it won’t present a challenge for getting 90° out of articulation points. Congrats on the acquisition, she is a BEAUT.

    We'll for starts let's put the missile and bombs inside an internal bomb bay on a rotating cylinder,so the guns should be toward the cockpit. Hasbro should consider this for a come back,however if nor directly then,sub contract out for a limited editions for remakes.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  8 років тому +1

      Think it's iconic enough to get that kind of treatment ahead of the WHALE and Night Raven? Hmmmm, now that I think about it, I can't honestly say which I'd want to see done the most. I guess I should be happy I have the Old Skool ones...

    • @generalchang2217
      @generalchang2217 8 років тому +1

      Sure I love those vehicles you've mentioned, but I think the real problem for Hasbro in beginning back things like the Night Raven with improvements is, it may be a limited market for them where cost to do it exceeds the profit made by reissuing them,but I'll buy them if done correctly, for example I took some of the Corbra vehicles and Joes, then how they could be designed to operate functional in the real world.

    • @generalchang2217
      @generalchang2217 8 років тому +1

      One of the problems is quality of plastics used in the vehicles and open cockpits where there should be hatches and engines put in the wrong places when they want to show that articulation.

    • @gijoburg
      @gijoburg  8 років тому +1

      Ah yes. And I believe 30th Anniversary Skystrikers eventually sold on clearance. Such a pity. Hasbro did try. I salute the die-hards who campaign so hard to re-release the greatest toys ever made. So I guess we won't be seeing the WHALE and Raven again any time soon...

      About as well as anything its size could be expected to, I suppose. Very little room to do anything more than truncated take-offs and landings. BUT the lack of a wingspan makes it have as much footprint as a Skystriker should have if it could be gear down/wings swept.
