Switch was my goat for a long time, now it’s a non-OLED steam deck. I’m sure if I had the OLED it would be my new favorite gaming device of all time, but I’m having trouble justifying the upgrade and am pretty damn smitten with my regular deck
@@prisonbread imo the upgrade is only worth it if you can sell your existing LCD to cover the costs. Otherwise I definitely don't recommend upgrading just to upgrade, especially since the performance increase was really small.

I used to have difficulty with playing halo infinite on the steam deck. And after doing some research, tinkering with the in-game and steam deck settings it's one of the best games I have in my library.
This + Cryoutilities 2.0 🤝 solid settings vid, I didn’t realize that render scale to quality thing does what it does. I’ve had mine on performance scaling and man the visuals are mid at best 😩 great video !
This game is so fucking good and i was shocked when i tried it out on deck myself and it ran well.

Bear in mind on more dense levels when shit hits the fan on 4p coop, expect that FPS to drop even more.
it's unplayable at harder difficulty to be quite honest
@@xBonafidexProdigy yeah especially on levels with lots of volumetric fog, which happens at higher difficulties
Did you test it on higher difficulties?
I read online that the framerate tanks below 30 no matter the settings when there are too many enemies.
@phenseant using cryo utilities and setting UMA buffer to 4 gb helped me obtain steady 40 fps on the first 2 difficulty levels haven't tried more yet.
I played rounds in challenging, haven't gone above but it really gets too low sometimes, was getting close to 20fps during big swarms using these settings. It's playable but barely. I'd say medium/hard difficulty is the max it can handle, pretty impressive already.
i hadn't played enough for higher difficulties when i made this, but i've been testing on level 9 helldive lately and i cant seem to get it to hold 40 no matter what :/ just too much goign on
There is a mod on Nexus that is a simple edit to the settings file, will help deck users maintain framerate. It works, but not at a locked 40fps.
For people like me that also have a gaming rig, worth it more to just add sunshine + moonlight in both devices and play streamed. I do this with heavy games like BG3, HD2 and others. Work flawlessly and the best part? 6h of battery life because the low amount of CPU and GPU usage =)
if you play streamed, can the FPS reach 60 at least? or is this 40 the best you're gonna get?
@@evanjmphyes, it reaches 60. It takes the fps/display settings you set on your monitor. It looks great and is really battery efficient . Heavily recommend.
I think with all these hand helds out now, not having a offline mode is a huge miss.

@@jonberg469disagree. I dunno if you have played the game but it’s really unfun to play by yourself and is almost impossible to play. I’m not disagreeing that there shouldn’t be an offline mode, but it wouldn’t boost sales as the game is meant to be played co op.
I think trying to achieve 45 fps might be the best option, especially for the Steam Deck OLED. 45 fps is exactly half of the 90 fps max refresh rate, which means running the display at the native 90hz refresh rate for the lowest possible input lag.
Does the OLED not directly change the refresh rate of the screen like the standard one can? In the settings for the standard one, it's possible to change the refresh rate of the screen itself, from 30Hz to 60Hz. Did they remove that from the OLED version or something?
@@CiromBreeze the old LCD version can change the refresh rate from 40-60. The new OLED can go from 40-90. But with both models you can do things like half refresh rate, so 45+45=90 or 30+30=60
You also get "double fps" By locking the OLED at 40 (since its also divisible by 80). I ve been doing that in MHW to avoid drops and feels more consistent in games with drops

a rock solid 30 fps with slightly better visual fidelity makes more sense to me btw there is a thread over on steam deck reddit that gained a lot of traction claiming solid 40 fps was not possible was there a recent patch? btw here is what the op said, maybe its different when playing co-op or something?

I got stable 45 on OLED man.... Only drops to 40 on some occasions. It is possible.dint believe everything you read online

i played it with low settings, render quality on performance. Difficulty 7 against Bots at night. I thought my Steamdeck gonna melt. 85°C temperatur and 20-25 fps. Against Bugs on Difficult 6 i had much better fps. I didnt see anything cause of the render scale but it was fun. Always did blind fire, accidentally hit a hellbomb did 70 Kills. The highest Killcount i ever had :D
No tinkering? On release, it crashed on boot. Happy to see that it works now. Gonna re-install it!

If you playing in 4k monitor go for ultra. Its just small screnn even 720p still look clean

Have you tried running the game on DX11 instead of DX12 by default? Not sure if it works on the deck, but if you try to launch Helldivers 2 on steam with the launch parameters "--use-d3d11" on, you could change the game to launch on DX11 and it improved my FPS by a decent amount on the PC. Here's hoping it would be a massive improvement for FPS without compromising much of the graphics

I don't think most people even know how to use fsr correctly i used to think if its on then its working but the icon wouldn't say on in the performance overlay. You have to put the game in windowed mode for it to actually work and the icon will be green.
@@the.littlest.toaster if it's offered in game in the settings and enabled there, it won't show in the steam overlay. Only shows when your resolution is set below the default res & FSR is enabled in the steam OS settings.

on the OLED about 2.5 hrs, on the LCD a little over 1 hr

I just have one question. Should I worry when the decks fan sounds like it's working on max power, or is it fine. Cuz it happens all the time when playing horizon zero dawn and I don't want to ruin the device.
nah i wouldn't worry about it, if you turn on the performance graph, check what the CPU and GPU temps are getting to, as long as its not higher than the mid 90s, i wouldn't worry, its within spec.
horizon Zero dawn is a demanding game so the deck is working full tilt, but that shouldn't cause any harm

What about temperature?
temps are great on the OLED and a bit worse on the LCD but still well within spec, you will hear fan noise though

Cryoutility has been obsolete since steam os 3.5

this isnt entirely true. division2, forza etc stilll benefit from cryo even on the oled. it just isnt as big a difference after 3.5@@mayze8611

I got the LCD version and been running Helldivers 2 as well but now I’m wanting to get gaming pc but I’m not sure about the price and I don’t want a PS5 whole reason why I brought a SteamDeck. Got my eyes looking at a used Alienware R16 used at bestbuy got $1350 what do yall think?
I don't have a steamdeck but I did this to my low specs laptop and it gave me better experience.
Doesnt matter how you tweak, 4 out 10 matches game crashes or kicks you out of mid match for no reason at all. This is getting tiring very fast.

if you use the same resolution its the same, if you upscale you'll get worse performance

Clarifying my question. Thinking of it like a Switch. Does it make your eyes hurt or look so bad that you’ll only want to play it handheld mode? Or can you go from handheld & then when your home, pick it back up on the Tv?
How do you throw a grenade? When I go to options, controller, change bindings, combat quick grenade has no input and when I try to change it nothing happens... I even tried with mouse to change it but nothing

I’ve had some frame rate drops, but nothing too bad
I've been playing with every setting on lowest and rendering set to Ultra Quality and with 3 other teammates vs difficulty 5 (or 6?) bugs I was regularly dropping to 16 fps.

@@sam.alexander.reviews Only a bit? Then it's good to hear. Helldivers 1 on Vita is playable only early stages where there's not many enemies... But on level 12 onward, the FPS dropped so much that it's barely playable. And if you crossplay, Vita player will experience slowdown.
So I was afraid this will also happen to steamdeck vs pc/ps5 players.

Since the SteamDeck OLED runs at up to 90 fps, would locked 45 fps be a better target for the OLED model than locked 40? If so, what are some good settings for locked 45?
Honestly probably the same settings will be very close to 45, maybe turn one thing down

Its not verified, so you just have to search for playable and verified games.
Make sure you make a check next to the yellow playable symbol under the search barn

Looks like bad implemented FSR 1 while on Quality. And the game as such looks pretty bad out of the box, even on ULTRA on a 4090. Not impressed tbh by that game at the moment. Feels overhyped.

Now play it on a difficulty higher than 7, with a full squad.
i like the oled version of the steam deck, i tried it 1 month but send it back, 1 thing was horrible, the shattering of the 4 control buttons, if i shaked the deck, you could hear cleary the rattling and shaking sound of these buttons, i think some day they broke at first because of the space they got in this spot, and next thing i dont like, was the just 1 year warranty, dude 12 months more with asus are much cooler, and the z1 extreme only cost 80€ more for 3 months microsoft store gaming and not just steam, but everything else, like origin, battlenet, gog Ea.. Ubisoft.. ( i know it is possible to install on steam deck too, i tried this, but then my gamefiles was away but the SSD card still got 100 gb in use i dont know where they was saved) but 2 point allways goes to steamdeck, i really enjoyed the ergonomic and batterylife, impressing. the biggest minus with rog ally is ofc the low battery life and the SD burning shit
