My friend told me Northern Exposure was available on Amazon prime. Binge watching doesn't begin to describe what im doing. I began watching about 12 days ago. I am starting season 6 episode 4 right now. I cant stop!! Lucky that im 82 yrs old and have no responsibilities!! It amazes me that so many issues discussed in the 90's are just as troubling today. Enjoy the show!!! So sorry that Morty the Moose died.
This is my all time favorite tv show. When I first started rewatching it I could only watch the first 2 episodes. It broke my heart so much to not have anything new on the characters that it actually took me a year to pick it back up and watch the whole series. Nothing will ever hold the magic for me that our town Cicely had.
What's cool for me is that I live in the town of Bellevue Washington, and used to live in Redmond, near Microsoft (where I worked). I was about 3 miles (walking distance) from the warehouse where they shot the interiors -- but didn't know it at the time. However, I now live at the other end of the lake -- Lake Sammamish -- which means I can get on I-90 and drive due east, past the "Twin Peaks" shooting locations, and in a little over an hour reach the town of Roslyn, where the N,E. exteriors were shot. I've made that trip before but wouldn't do it right now, because my sports car can't handle the snow in the mountain passes.
I just bought the entire 6 seasons on dvd in a box set. I have watched the first two seasons and haven’t noticed any change in the music. It may have been a cyber Monday deal on Amazon but I only paid $26 and change for the whole box set. This program seems as relevant today as it did back in the early 90’s. The stories hold up and the characters are stellar.

All seasons of Northern Exposure are streaming on Amazon Prime, January 2024. They also have the original soundtracks. I was a huge fan (I still am) back in the 90s but I missed a lot of the episodes. I'm having a blast catching up and the show holds up so well. I love the existential questions asked and the parodies on small town living, and the fact there's no cell phones or computers. The episode when they got a tv at the bar was classic! I would love to have this series with original editing and music on DVD. I know, old school, but still, I'd love to have it.
This was a huge hit, and it's a crime that you couldn't get for so many years! I found vhs in a thrift store, too bad I didn't get all the tapes. Someone lovingly tape most of the ep. off tv. This is how much so many people loved this series. Glad to see it's being put out there by Apple at least.
@voxxclamantis9668I Great find! In the late 90s I taped every episode when the show was being rerun by A&E. Four years ago I donated all of those tapes to a thrift store in Birmingham, AL. I now have both the US and UK DVDs.

The Brick scenes seem dark on my oled. Not complaining one bit, so happy to have this show back on my daily watch list. My wife and I moved to Juneau because of it! This show nails it. Peace
I stayed in that town back when the show was being shot. We spent a weekend with friends that had a family vacation home there, and the house was actually used in the show at one point.

Northern Exposure is just such a hopeful, powerful, hilarious little show that deserves WAY more love than it got when it was on originally. So glad it's finally available for purchase to stream. We're still holding out hope for a reboot. It would be nice to see our old friends in Cicely, Alaska, again for a whole new generation. Don't get me started with the final season because it RUINED the whole show. Anyway, thanks for sharing, Steve! 👍🏻 I have another super fun suggestion for you. I loved the series from the beginning, but took a job in 92 that kept me in very remote parts of Asia and didn’t see it again until the last season when I returned home. I was dumbfounded by what the show morphed into in those few years. That being said. I am glad I never bought the dvd’s. I will get it on the iTunes to be able to hear the original score and see everything I missed.😊
I bought a copy of the complete DVD series at a Walmart three months ago. I don't remember what I paid for it, but I'm pretty sure it was less than $60. It took me about six weeks to watch all the episodes and extras. I think it had all the original music. I remember it had the Willie Nelson song at the end of the Three Amigos episode (which I thought was the best). Thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'll be watching it again next year. I'm going to start watching my copy of Breaking Bad tonight.
Bad news about the music in the digital copy. I just bought the series on iTunes for $30, and the music has been changed. I wasn’t sure at first with Louie in Ed’s truck in the pilot, but then I wanted to play the end of Democracy in America and the beautiful boys choir singing This is My Country over Chris’ quoting Lincoln. It’s not there, just some vague synthetic choir. So now being moved to tears I’m just irritated. I can only guess at the rest. I did check the beginning of The Body in Question and Ta Ra Ra Boom Dee Yay (for you George Carlin fans) was playing when Chris found the icy Frenchman. It seems to be hit or miss so far. Anyway, happy new year to you and Dave.
Thanks for sharing these details! I couldn’t tell for sure, as you said, some of the original songs are still there….others are missing. Probably legal issues with the music rights to some songs and not others. With that said, I love having the entire series on my iTunes library and $30 is a great price. Thanks again and I wish you a great 2024 as well!
👍. I believe that the original music is MOSTLY in tact with the newer digital streaming options, with a few songs missing here and there due to licensing issues.
First of all I am thrilled that Northern Exposure is out there. I tried one episode of moonlighting and I didn't care about it. But I had been hoping for Northern exposure. As for the other thing. Do not stop collecting DVDs. Streaming services give and then they take away. Even if you buy something from them if it is not real you do not own it. They can go out of business. It has happened. I rushed through my second viewing of St Elsewhere last September. Fans said it was being removed from Hulu which is the only place where the entire series seems to exist at all. I got to the end and then it was still there. But I later learned that not all of it is there anymore. There are many missing episodes which is not good for a serialized drama. They were pulled and we don't know why. Might have been the music might have been something else but they are gone. Now all I have is season 1 on DVD. And for some reason only half of it works. It's like it melted in the years it's set on the shelf and I should probably check my Buffy and our West Wing and other series that we have bought. We can no longer buy Grey's Anatomy, that makes me very sad. But I have every season of Scrubs. Anyway I am finishing season 4. I thought I would be done by now but apparently there are 25 episodes. I just finished the one where Joel's uncle died and they all had a service where everyone prayed or meditated or had thoughts for their loved ones. I really loved that. I remember that it was a summer replacement series and I remember that after it was over for a while I missed it and I wanted it to come back and then it did and I was happy I do not remember that it was on CBS. But I'm pretty sure it was from the people who made St Elsewhere which was also a very good and quirky show. I thought Northern Exposure would be another doctor show but I like my doctor shows in hospitals and I liked Northern exposure just for the characters. I started watching Dr Quinn but I gave up. When I was younger I watched Marcus Welby once and I didn't care. I watched medical center often and then all the reruns on TBS or TNT or wherever they ended up in the '90s. Most American medical dramas set in hospitals I have watched and sadly I also watched mob doctor in the hopes that as a resident, the main character would be in a hospital more often but she wasn't and I was very thankful when it was canceled and I could stop. I didn't like that thing with Sophia Bush and Emily Owens MD was really kind of juvenile, sadly. But most of the other ones I have really liked. A few years ago we were up to seven medical dramas. And my favorite will be Gray's Anatomy, ER, Scrubs, and I know there's one more Oh right: St Elsewhere. Except for season 1 which was kind of dull. I think some of the inside jokes were timely because there didn't seem to be as many of them when I saw it again in 2017. I think that's when Hulu got it and that's when I got Hulu. But yes, it is so exciting to have Northern exposure and I don't know how long we will. And finally Hulu has all of Grey's Anatomy and not just the current season.
While this is great, it’s all the more reason to buy Blu-rays or DVDs and then rip your discs to a Plex server if possible. That’s what I do. Best of both worlds! There is no guarantee any show will stay on any streaming service indefinitely.
Is it with the original music? The music was part of the magic of NE. I don't have Apple, so I can't buy from them. Trying to find the right place. I'll check my Prime, but I want the original music if I'm going to pay.
I'm definitely a physical media person (my shelf of audiocassets and VHS tapes can attest to that). I wont be picking this collection up do to pricing but definitely glad it exists and is finally as it should be, with the music intact. Great shows like this really loose something when thebmusics replaced. I know it takes a little away from the experience when I play the Andy Griffith Show or Beverly Hillbillies and their opening and closing themes have been swapped out for what I'm assuming are cheaper alternatives (even if they do fit the mood of each).
I just bought the entire 6 seasons, dvd box set from Amazon for $26 and some change. I have watched the first two seasons so far and haven’t noticed anything different from the original show on tv.
I have the British DVD box. Was worth every penny, including having to buy a new player to watch it. The show is nothing without the original music, the way it was intended. Unfortunately, digital downloads will never match the amazing menu screens of the old DVD box set. Every time I put in one of the discs and see that menu screen I am transported back to the 90s! LOL
I bought a region free blu ray player and bought the blu ray set from overseas (I can't remember which region, but not US, and it works fine on the region free blu ray player...and has the original music). That blu ray set was available on amazon and year or so ago. I haven't checked since.
@@kdkseven I've just started watching a few favorite episodes yesterday, and they are gorgeous on the blu ray and my oled tv. I didn't mind the price as I waited years to get it on blu ray with the original music. I knew it would be available at some point because many years ago it was on (I think) the Universal channel briefly, and in HD. It seems like it was around 10 years ago or more. I figured it would be soon available, but shortly after that I could find it no where and it wasn't even on that channel anymore.
@@greyeyed123 It does look fantastic. I got it a year or so ago and watched a few episodes, but i'm waiting until i can watch it with my girlfriend (she loves small towns and shows set in small towns, but never saw NE). Soon i hope!
@@greyeyed123 I don't mind the price at all, as long as i get all the original music (i even bought a region free blu-ray player just for it, though it's been quite handy to have around). I waited decades until i could get WKRP in Cincinnati with almost all of it's original music.
I'm glad it's not coming back. I have all available episodes on VHS from my childhood, watched to bits, also the DVD set with the cheaper soundtrack, which I haven't watched at all.
This is great news for those that can get it. Alas, in my part of the world TV shows aren’t available on iTunes, only movies. So I’m going to have to stick to my DVD version of the show. Which I currently can’t watch either. Due to upgrading to a new big screen TV a couple of years ago, that doesn’t have the required composite video connector used on my ancient DVD player! And new DVD players are also near impossible to come by where I am too, not even online! So I’m currently stuffed when it comes to NE. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find a new player with the required HDMI connector somewhere 🤷♂️
Not sure about Amazon, as I recently purchased the entire series on iTunes through Apple. I will say that it seems to be hit or miss some of the songs seem to be from the original soundtrack while others appear to be replaced. Perhaps they were able to regain the rights to some of the songs, but not all.
I thought the Shout Factory complete series dvd set had all the original music. I'm curious if the upcoming blu ray release will have the correct music as well
Nuts, I don't have that streaming platform. I bought the dvd set some years back, desperate to watch again and yeah, it lacks that extra sumthn that the music gave it.

"Stopped buying DVDs in favor of buying DIGITAL copies"? Hello!!!! DVDs ARE DIGITAL! Always have been! Digital technology existed long before streaming ever came along
I’m not sure. Maybe someone else can answer that, or read the reviews on Amazon. I know most people who would buy that would care about music being the original.
I am watching NE for my very first time on PRIME but I think some of the music has been changed. I would like to know what music was playing during The Running Of The Bulls at the end of S:2 3:5. if anyone knows (?) Thank You.
I am much more like Ed and Marilyn than will ever admit….with a touch of Chris. It’s the same with Serenity. They cancel shows because of politics, not the fans. Northern Exposure would be more relevant than ever, with the same quality of writing. Let’s not forget Peg……
Would much rather have this on DVD cause I’ve got the machine to play them on otherwise I’m watching them on aptn on regular TV. So far, so good. But I’d kinda like to see all of the complete series. Every episode they made. Getting aware of the fact that rt now there’s a lot of re-runs of Northern Exposure & a few others. Ugh 😑. But then there’s only so many episodes they made in total before they ceased & closed down Northern Exposure altogether. It happens. Even to really good quality programs. Another one I truly love ❤️ is Heartland! That’s my #1! I’ve watched that series for so many years that I almost can’t remember how far back I go in watching when this family. I remember it had the Willie Nelson song at the end of the Three Amigos episode (which I thought was the best). Thoroughly enjoyed it, and I'll be watching it again next year. I'm going to start watching my copy of Breaking Bad tonight.
👍. Thanks for sharing your comments!
Ran till August 9, 1995. Actress Teri Polo was in the last 8 episodes while Rob Morrow was gone.
👍
Love this show so much!!! I’ve been waiting for this day!!!

@@stephensundstrom6379 Absolutely. It was definitely not an agonizing decision. It’s funny that you can find all the music in UA-cam, though.
“Did you get yours today…” Love that George Carlin bit 😂
The show is now on Amazon Prime. Although I have found the series on dvd with the original music. Yay!
👍. I believe that the original music is MOSTLY in tact with the newer digital streaming options, with a few songs missing here and there due to licensing issues.
And the complete series is now on Amazon Prime ‼️‼️😎👴🏻
👍
Good deal. I did not know this. It’s one of the very few shows that’s worthy of purchasing the full series.
I totally agree!
I’ve been streaming it on a basic Amazon prime video, it seems to have the correct music
👍
I would love a reboot of Northern Exposure!
Me too!
The JAG tv show also has had the same music license issues. On streaming services, you can only watch some of the episodes.
👍
I also have many old vhs copies
👍
While this is great, it’s all the more reason to buy Blu-rays or DVDs and then rip your discs to a Plex server if possible. That’s what I do. Best of both worlds! There is no guarantee any show will stay on any streaming service indefinitely.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Thanks for letting us know!
👍
Amazon prime has all seasons from $19.00 - $24.00
👍. Thanks for sharing this information!
Is it with the original music? The music was part of the magic of NE. I don't have Apple, so I can't buy from them. Trying to find the right place. I'll check my Prime, but I want the original music if I'm going to pay.
Physical media is superior. Streaming can be taken away for numerous reasons. Always have your shows and films on disk.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!
Andy Griffith and The Beverly Hillbillies had two of the greatest opening songs ever!
LOL
👍
Have been grateful to APTN for running this show repeatedly and now have most of the 6 seasons.😊
👍
It's also now available on Amazon Prime Video
👍
I bought a region free blu ray player and bought the blu ray set from overseas (I can't remember which region, but not US, and it works fine on the region free blu ray player...and has the original music). That blu ray set was available on amazon and year or so ago. I haven't checked since.
👍
It's still available. It's pricey (almost $150) but worth it just to have the original music. Discovered a few of my favorite artists on that show.
It’s available on Amazon Prime. I’m watching it now, hope it helps you and all fans.
👍
They need to put it on a roku channel.
That would be great!
My favorite tv doctor 🥵 🔥. My 90s crush 😻 Dr Joel f.
👍
I'm glad it's not coming back. I have all available episodes on VHS from my childhood, watched to bits, also the DVD set with the cheaper soundtrack, which I haven't watched at all.
👍
The first 3-4 seasons were fantastic. Then something kinda went amiss. Still tho it easily is one of THE best shows of the 90's.
👍
It is also available on Amazon. But I'm not sure about the music.
👍
This is great news for those that can get it. Alas, in my part of the world TV shows aren’t available on iTunes, only movies. So I’m going to have to stick to my DVD version of the show. Which I currently can’t watch either. Due to upgrading to a new big screen TV a couple of years ago, that doesn’t have the required composite video connector used on my ancient DVD player! And new DVD players are also near impossible to come by where I am too, not even online! So I’m currently stuffed when it comes to NE. Maybe I’ll get lucky and find a new player with the required HDMI connector somewhere 🤷♂️
There’s no adapters that would work?
@@stephensundstrom6379 umm…didn’t occur to me 🤔 I’ll check that out, thanks
👍
It is on APTN here in Canada
👍
great show! so funny! cute!
👍
Streaming on amazon Prime now! Is it the OG music?
Not sure about Amazon, as I recently purchased the entire series on iTunes through Apple. I will say that it seems to be hit or miss some of the songs seem to be from the original soundtrack while others appear to be replaced. Perhaps they were able to regain the rights to some of the songs, but not all.
Yay!!!
👍
Also I just found that it was on Amazon Prime streaming at no extra charge if you purchase Amazon Prime video
👍
I thought the Shout Factory complete series dvd set had all the original music. I'm curious if the upcoming blu ray release will have the correct music as well
👍
Rest in peace Bill White
👍
Needs to be streamable!!!!!
I would love that as well!
I bought the complete series with all the original music through Bonanza for less and also Bates Motel
👍
Streaming and the original sound track might be worth the money
👍
Nuts, I don't have that streaming platform. I bought the dvd set some years back, desperate to watch again and yeah, it lacks that extra sumthn that the music gave it.
It’s also currently streaming on Amazon Prime.
@@stephensundstrom6379Oh I heard that, but is it the right soundtrack there?
Next..where’s Thirtysomething?
Great question!!!
@@stephensundstrom6379 Shame they made us wait so long, like a lost lover , I no longer have interest.. I would invest in another go round with 30something..🤭
👍
LOVED this Show... although it kinda wen off-the-rails toward the end.
👍. Yeah, the end wasn’t as strong. Happens to a lot of shows.
Can get the entire series on DVD for $30. And it has the original soundtrack, Half the price and there are extras. Don't give Apple your money.
Thanks for sharing. I prefer digital content these days that doesn’t take up room in my house. But, everyone has their own preferences.
"Stopped buying DVDs in favor of buying DIGITAL copies"? Hello!!!! DVDs ARE DIGITAL! Always have been!
Digital technology existed long before streaming ever came along
I stand corrected! I personally prefer streaming versus DVD as I don’t have room to keep adding and DVDs in my house.
What about the new blu-ray region 1 box-set of Northern Exposure: does it contain the original music?
I’m not sure. Maybe someone else can answer that, or read the reviews on Amazon. I know most people who would buy that would care about music being the original.
Amazon Prime is running tthis complete.
👍
I am watching NE for my very first time on PRIME but I think some of the music has been changed. I would like to know what music was playing during The Running Of The Bulls at the end of S:2 3:5. if anyone knows (?)
Thank You.
👍
I am much more like Ed and Marilyn than will ever admit….with a touch of Chris. It’s the same with Serenity. They cancel shows because of politics, not the fans. Northern Exposure would be more relevant than ever, with the same quality of writing. Let’s not forget Peg……
👍
But it’s an extremely precious experience & family program. ♥️🥰yummy!
👍
Amazon has the entire 6 seasons in a box set on dvd. I paid just over $26 for the whole box set.
Sadly it doesn’t mean you really own it, however good news actual soundtrack is represented.
👍
Free now on Amazon Prime
👍
if you don't hold it, you don't own it. Do some research, streaming services are deleting or editing peoples digital content.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Are you in Canada or something? When I search iTunes it does not show any digital version of it.
No, I’m in the U.S. Try searching for “Northern Exposure Complete”
ITS ON DVD
👍
I am watching on Amazon

22 March 2024 Just looked it up on iTunes-not available
Interesting. I purchased it from iTunes not that long ago. I do hear it’s now on Amazon Prime for free to stream right now.
@@stephensundstrom6379 Thanks. Giving money to 🍎 is bad enough, but supporting Bezos who immiserates his workers and won’t allow unions is a bridge too far.
I bought the series on dvd and noticed all the music was changed. that was so lame. so, I looked for the original dvds that were sold way back and they too had different music. so now I'm stuck with 2 dvd series of the show with replaced music.
That does suck! I feel for you!
The UK Complete Series blu-ray set has all the original music.
@@kdkseven that's cool, but I don't have a region 2 dvd player. 😢

They brought back Frasier? A hackneyed show that isn't funny and they can't get Northern Exposure going again. Sad.
