Will early access come with a big update on the build you have access to?
In GamePass for free
I love the slow paced style of the game and I really want to support this dev. Absolutely incredible what he has created just by himself.
Agreed pal! I’m buying it purely to support Greg
@@thefalconrychef6660 Tim from dark hooded studios said that the price will depend on your region and average wage gap he also said that there won't be pre orders and he said that there will be a 25 through 10 percent discount on the first
My question is is there a bloodline lineage type thingy where you get more people through politicking and marriages? Or do people just automatically come to fill your population?
@@isolate9920 from what i have watched you just build more living space and if your economic situation is going well people would move there over time, and i dont think there will be a marriage system at least at launch of early access
Should You Buy Early Access for Manor Lords?
TLDR: FUCK YES
I came away with a no after this helpful video. 3-4 more years of development until the game actually reaches full release? Nah thanks, I'll pass for now. Happy to let you guys do the alpha testing.
@@jadawin1137 the "alpha testing" is kinda done actually. It doesn't seem like one of those games that are basically scams and will never be delivered. Those of us who played it at the demo loved it already, its beautiful, runs fine and has nice mechanics. Just don't expect it to be a combination of several "AAAAAAA" games when it was developed by just a single dude.
if you have money for tripple A games, that are pushed on the market in awfull states, then you have money to support guys like this, who spend years and years to create a game, where the wishes of the community are in focus.
People talk about how games used to be better 20 years ago yet keep pushing this development by peanut gallery idea. So many games have been ruined by feature creep because of listening to the masses. Wish good developers would stick to their guns.
Okay, will pirate anyway.
@@PsyTranceKaitia okay? nobody gives a fuck, weirdo
If devs want support they dont charge 40$ for indie city builder :)
this game is perfect for me to play for a few hours before and after work
You wake up before you immediately have to get ready and leave for work? 😂
That’s your life wasting away dude
This game is perfect for me to play AT work
@@PusfilthYou don’t know about the value of time. You have a retirement plan, the weakest play in the mammal dictionary.
10:40 I concur with your statement on EA: If done right, it's the best thing to do for some games. Smaller developers and more complex games fit in EA quite well. BG3 Act 1 shows how well EA works and I see the same for Manor Lords. I'm fine with helping the dev team Q&A their game, so long as I'm not being charged top price.
According to time he said price will depend on your region and annual wage gap and there will be. a 25 through 10 percent discount
Yes, and yes and yes.
100% we have to support devs like this.
If we're willing to give out £100 for AAA games, then so be it. I will support someone that has spent years developing what would take 400 people to make (and rush it out and leave it for bug fixes/patches)
Edit: I'm being mis-interpreted. There are plenty of gamers that buy expensive amounts of games. Don’t tell me if it was a good game like Baldur Gate 3, you wouldn’t spend money for it, of course you would because you know that’s a Labour of love as opposed to a game that’s being developed for years, has multiple project managers and made for a quick buck. It is an expensive hobby. For all gamers nowadays. Everything is expensive, but doesn’t mean things aren’t cheap either. I'm not going to lie about that. But my message is aimed towards an GENERAL audience that does this. I'm saying go buy Manor Lords as it is 100% worth it.
Anyone who is willing to give £100 to AAA games should be in jail.
@@FutaCatto2 I don't question people on their choices of spending. it's their stuff at the end of the day
@@MedjayofFaiyumno that's totally wrong. If someone else is willing to spend $100 on a AAA mediocre game that will show the studio that they can get away with that so it impacts me if other people accept this and allow it to become the norm.
@@zVampiirePlatypus You are misunderstanding me; I said people shell out £100 or so - I'm saying that its time we support indie devs and give them a big share as well. This will force the big AAA companies to rethink.
We are not willing to give 100 euros for a game. That's just you
I think people should expect village building game. Its not total war despite occasional battle.
to be a bit cheaky , manor lords doesnt have auto resolve so propably has more battles than Total war :D
@@AntwKats haha I feel ya, I usually autoresolve in Medieval 2 until about turns 15-20 when things start getting interesting.
Helping the algorithm grind! Thanks for always keeping it real and no nonsense about games being a leisure activity and playing to have fun.
I was a manager at gamestop/eb games for 10 years. The slow transition into gamestops money hungry strategy really killed the retail feel that our store had. It was a haven for gamers to come and hang with fellow gamers. Its a shame how far they fell.
Glad you touched on the fact that there is literally no reasonable justification for pre-ordering being a thing anymore. I haven't pre-ordered a game since like 2009 when I still bought physical games and wanted to make sure I got my copy from the brick and mortar game shop on day 1. There's no good argument for it, and pre-order bonuses aren't a good argument either, they shouldn't exist in the first place, it's just a scummy marketing trick to get you to purchase a product that isn't even done yet, it's a way to cash in on hype and it's been used in the past to ensure games that (usually massive) companies knew had a lot of hype to them but weren't going to meet expectations were able to at least turn a profit from pre-orders before the big rug pull when consumers got their hands on what was known by the company to be a subpar product.
Don't fall for pre-ordering. Early access is one thing, look into the company, look into the game. My rule of thumb for buying an early access game is "does this game look like I'd be happy with it if development completely stopped as soon as I bought it, despite being incomplete?".
Personally with Manor Lords I'm hoping they are sitting on an update that will be pushed along with the public release in a few days, just to give us a little more we haven't seen. Otherwise I might wait at least a little longer.
I never pre order, but for some reason I did with CS2. Mostly because CS1 was great and I wanted to support colossal order because they’re a small studio. You can imagine how daft I feel right now:)
This game in early access seems more complete and less buggy than any PDX game at release.
Well, it's not like this bar is high.
Someone call the police! That was criminal!
I just want to give Greg $40 tbh
Honestly I love how hard people are rallying behind this. I was afraid people would be so hateful as we got into the launch of early access once it gets into the full swing of the larger gaming community. I'm all fuckin for it
What's it gonna cost?
As a broke college student I would love it if I could buy it for 15 euro, cause that's all I got on my account 😂
To guess, I'd say between £20 and £40 pounds. My gut would be around 30. We will know on Friday 😬
the region and average wage gap of said region he also said there will be a 25 through 10 percent discount on the first day@gergocsanadi4770 the region and average wage gap of said region he also said there will be a 25 through 10 percent discount on the first day@@gergocsanadi4770
Absolutely buying this on Friday. Greg has put a lot into this so far & i'm confident it'll be superb in the end, I'm happy to support him in early access.
I played the demo last year and enjoyed it. I've checked out a number of playthroughs this week online. I can't believe how much ML has progressed! I have no hestitation in purchasing an early access pass to this ground breaking game.
I've watched a bunch of streams, and If the game didnt get any better than it is already, i'd still play it.
Me too, but it'd still kill a small part of me. As it stands it's just a proof of concept, but it's got infinite potential.
Love the video. Balanced and reasonable as normal.
The reason early access is problematic is the combination of two things I think
1. You have games that appear, get hyped, get money and the die - cash grabs (?)
2. People don't seem to know what early access actually is and complain that things aren't working or complete. I even saw a video the other day for No Rest For The Wicked that said "It's not ready" - of course it isn't because it's early access.
Anyway, keep up the good work.
Dude I hope for your continued success on youtube. Cause you really do give all the information needed quickly, it's invaluable to some of us. Your quick description without sounding like a marketing tool convinced me to just wait til 1.0. Everyone else is just making clickbait titles and 9-10 minute long videos of waste of time bullshit.
This game reminds me most of Stronghold, mainly the village building missions that you could sink hours into. Though unlike recent Stronghold games, this looks like it might actually be fun.
I loved the different styles of that game and haven't found anything since they came out. I lived the village management, castle building and military across aspect. It didn't storehouse in anything, it just seemed to have it all. I doing the missions that were only military actions, I missed building a village. In the village building, I missed the combat. I'm excited for this.
1000% yes, I would have bought it when it was demo released and been fine with it.
1. Because of the developer and what he had been able to implement even then, years ago at this point.
2. Sharing his vision on what he wanted it to be, which just so happens to be what many of us have been wanting for years. Banished style building game with a bit of real time battles.
3. Breaking away from aaa publishers and promoting raw talent is what gaming used to be about. Hence all the kickstarters, some good some very bad, but we desire more.
Just to name a few. Going to LOVE this game and all that it will become in the years to come both with development, dlc and mods. This is going to be incredible and could be a watershed moment for gaming as it pushes those above abusive aaa companies to get back to their roots and find that passion, or find your player numbers along with your relevance go by the wayside.
I remember in the 90s going into a game store and looking at all different types of games by small studios and wishing I had a computer that could handle any game(no idea what my parents bought us, but Kyrandia was one of the few games that worked). There are lots of games now, but I just get that feeling now, like this is a throwback to passion.
@justinthomas85 100% agreed. This truly looks like a passion project. Heck, he's even trying to tone down the hype. Who does that?! Given the genre, the demo, and what we know of the dev, even with limited funds, I want to support this type of individual/group in every way possible. Gaming is our passion, and it's refreshing to have a developer have the same level and more than their potential fans/consumers. Manor Lord's, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ostriv and a few others deserve our full support.
Thanks for this video. I actually didn't know it was a Early Access version of the game. I always presumed you streamers received the Early Access version in order to hype us up and then on Friday everybody would receive the Full version. So.. good to know indeed. That being said, I'm actually happy still more content will be developed and the game will continue to grow. Really exciting stuff! I
I will definitely buy the Early Access game! I've been waiting for it for a couple of years now. Having bad nights the last few days, because I keep thinking and dreaming about this game. Too excited!
Question: Does anyone know if this game will be released exactly at 00.01h European time? Or will it be later? I'll either stay up for it, or set my alarm real early on Friday.
Greg said it will be released about 5pm ish UK time
Thank you for the TL;DW in the first >3 minutes. More people really need to do that!
I'm probably still going to watch the rest of the video, because I want to hear the "why."
I'm a little worried given its a one man dev team that there will be a understanably slow release of updates but a lot of people who buy in will expect frequent patches and new content and turn hostile.
I wish them all the best and hope everyone who buys the game has fun but I think I'll check back in a year or two and see how it's going.
to me the most direct comparison, out of the games I have played, is Farthest Frontier but there are still significant differences. This is do to being primarily a settlement builder with combat/army management elements.
I always thought a M&B Warband/bannerlord town/city builder would be cool but if this is just a bannerlord 2 with retinues that will do absolutely fine! The city building is so nice and fluid which is what the clear focus was on and it shows, looks amazing and I look forward to building a medieval settlement in 2024 graphics lol. Been really into colony sims last few years moved on from city builders because the level of control/automation Rimworld or Dawn of man gives is better than the big city sims but having an armed force and bandit raids will be the perfect thing to scale it from small settlements to entire villages or towns.
love the straight to the point TLDW style. thanks and I agree with the premise :D
Like he mentions there's already going to be a lot of content but still limited but don't forget if Greg decides to add steam workshop capabilities let alone stuff like nexus mods this game is going to be amazing,
I think this is most comparable to the Caesar and Pharaoh series really..
They also had some fighting in it but focussed on city building and production chains etc.
Yea its exactly like Ceasar 2-4. Its a city builder, with some military units you can build.
Buy Manor Lords if you like Banished/Zues(city building game). If you think this is a CK3/TW/Bannerlords alternative it is not, don’t buy it.
I’ve legit seen more people compare this game to total war than another city builder
@@Cigmacica I feel like that's going to be the biggest thing people complain about
Banished is a relic. It's a standard that not many other match up to.
@@Cigmacica legend of total war disagrees.
Am I the only person how has played Stronghold 2 because that’s exactly what Manor Lords is.
i missed these type of videos. thanks.
As it is, this game appears worth it for just the current building ability. It's very much like Ostriv but has the combat as well.
Dold on me, there is no genre like this I neee itvfor my library. Let's build a manor and fight to preserve it. So cool. I just wish we had more portrait options. I'll be supporting your channel. btw good content as always.
Honestly, it is all going to depend on the price for me. If it is early access priced, then I will buy it. If it is AAA priced, then I will not.
Somewhere between £15-£25 seems reasonable to me, and I have bought similarly developed games (Kenshi, Rimworld, Zomboid, Banished) for around that price. I have seen suggestions of £50-60 which would be too much imo.
i think its going to be 30-40 by the comments made by the developer.
If it is as high as that I will wait and see how things develop. @@stonernation7221
That's my issue with this stuff...you used to get it cheaper for jumping in earlier and QA testing the game. Now they all want the money now.
@@RangerofNE Yeah, it turns out that the game is massively overpriced. Surprise surprised. Key shop it is.
Guts tim from dark hooded studios said that the price will depend on the region you live and average wage gap and he said there will be no pre orders
Early Access is also like a Kickstarter but you also get to play a game while you wait
I really hope he will grow towards adding some castle building over time, my dream would be this game reviving the stronghold kind of game.
Yo I appreciate your front loading videos
Always bro! I want you to enjoy the game, not spend all the time in a video searching for an answer you can get in ten seconds!
This game reminds me of Caesar 3, one of my favorite games of all time... Pure city building and management with VERY LIGHT, yet very functional, combat. Anyone thinking this is going to be a Medieval 3 Total War is nuts.
I have only bought a few early access games n those have been regularly updated to be better than when i started buying them but i have never pre ordered a game n never will
Do we know if the current early access build is what we'll be getting on Friday? Or is there going to be a newer build with additions/changes?
Aside from. Stability stuff, this is what you'll be getting!
It's a city builder/economy builder with some rts battling. So 100% you should buy it, if you like these genres. One thing to bare in mind is, fixes, content, full release etc may take a while being a small team. I personally am prepared to play this for a bit and wait for new stuff to come. Looks a very nice game overall imo. Greg has achieved an amazing feat putting this together. Indies ftw!
I think it's pretty amazing how just one dude can make a game that looks this good. Sure it's early access but there is already a decent amount of content to explore. If people even get 20-50 hours out of it i think that's well worth the price. And then you can come back once more content release or when the game comes out in full.
I already pre-ordered it xD Definitely a game for me
I really like this aproach! Its easy to hype and get people interested in what may be. When buying EA you need to learn that you buy what is there NOW and what comes will come. Do i expect more things from for example Enshrouded? Yes. Will i base my entire experience with it based on what i dream might be? No.
For manor lords i do absolutely hope that we will get a larger empire lords version or that other companies see that possibility and go running for it.
I know its not what the devs of manor lord is down for but thats what i want and hope for in the future in some way.
Manor lords does a LOT for this type of games and im all down for it.
ML definitely has my attention but gonna wait for more development
For me it's definitely on my radar, considering I enjoyed games like Timberborn and Dwarf Fortress, and this game just looks phenomenal. That said, I'm not if I'll get it just yet or wait a little.
this maybe one of the dreams from many gamers esp for rpg/medieval era/city builder with total war style fighting in real time? damn. also dont forget about that damn years of developing this game.
WORTH TO BUY! JUST BUY
I never pre order and i never do early access, ive held this rule for a very long time, This game is a cool concept I really am excited to see if it survives
I rarely do Early Access but I will be doing so here for this game. All the looks I've had on it from other streamers is awesome.
Im supporting this guy just for his honesty, plus the game just looks stunning at times, if i can spend 20 notes on a car wash i can support his hard work
Honestly, from what I've seen on dozens of streams and gameplay videos... the game in its current state offers 200 or more hours of playtime before I've even done everything that is there to do currently in it.
And if that's not worth a couple dozen bucks, then I don't know what is.
Game looks and sounds beautiful. Building is slow paced, free form and relaxed. I can build several villages all around the map and level them all up individually. Battles look and feel and sound absolutely epic, despite being only small territorial skirmishes with bandits and one other lord's mercenaries. ..
I can fire this game up after coming home from work and just have fun building and occasionally battling enemies.
Even if new features do not get added for another 5 years... still worth the money.
Going to play the heck out of this. It is already exactly what I want and any more content/mechanics is the cherry on top
This really is a plug for Greg, which I 100% support. Give the man your moneys!
Surly if he dose well at the early access launch he should then be hireing people to help with development
It depends, honestly. Kenshi did really well and the team did expand but he didn't go crazy because of the fear of too many cooks spoiling the broth.
It is hard for someone who has had absolute control to let some of that go, too. Especially when it is their passion project.
@thebiglebrowski3695 I don't mean like get a full studio but higher some dev to implement his ideas. I mean all depends on cost if its more than 25 then seems abit steep for what it is and I'm assuming as a single dev, updates will take a very every long time
@thebiglebrowski3695 don't get me wrong the game idea is great I've been waiting ages for it but with only 1 dev for updates and a full cost game like 30 and over just seems abit of a stretch for me. Also no road map so he could literally just add the ability to add a castle and call it finished. It's needs a road map as in what content will be added on full release. As good as the concept the game needs more stuff to do. Proper ai enemy's that build up along side you in their own territory not just a baron
@Yt81818 Oh I agree in a lot of ways. Said myself in a comment that if it is any more than £25 then I won't be buying it. Plenty of indie games are less than that even when released like Rimworld and Kenshi.
@thebiglebrowski3695 that's why he needs to invest some of what he makes off early access sales back into the game with extra devs and so on, I'd just hate to see it go to waste and not get the love it deserves cause it could be game of the year if done right
1:33
Lmao same as I did ... EA was available for BG, bought it, played it for 10 hours, ignored it until release ... I now have clocked 184 hours xD
Defiantly buying, Greg’s done an amazing job as a single Dev. I want to support him so he can really implement the changes/fixes the game will need in early access and so he can make this game even more immersive and complex.
I'm sold just cause his name is Greg.
if there was something like this in a low fantasy witcher-style universe i would play the ever loving stuff out of it
Is there an eta for implementation of the tractors?
I already have Game Pass ultimate so this is an easy decision for me to give it a try. I am really glad for this video because I think it does a good job setting expectations. Knowing that it's more like a medieval Sim City with small scale AoE looking battles instead of the wild and craziness of CK3 politics and empire building is great info. It's so impressive what independent developers can do nowadays, and supporting great ones like this will lead to so many more amazing games.
As for Early Access, I think it's basically something people need to decide for themselves on a case by case basis since you're basically preordering and signing up for a beta test at the same time. If you don't trust the developer to use Early Access to make the best game possible or if you're not convinced that the end product will be something you like, then don't spend your money. But if you have developers like Greg, Larian, or Super Giant with Hades 2 who have a good track record, then support them!
Interesting that you have it listed as $40, when Tim of Hooded Horse said they were not releasing pricing on Reddit today.
I don't have it set, that's the affiliate marketing platform. I'd wait until Friday for concrete pricing
Do you start in different parts of the map? With each new game?
Yes, starting location is randomized as is fertility, underground water locations, and which resources are rich deposits.
The only game that I would compare this to is Ostriv. Likewise Ostriv was a single Dev, from Kharkiv, and still developing his game in the midst of a war.
Whereas Ostriv is set in 1730's on, Manor Lords is set in 1400s?
Ostriv has more of an overview, and tends toward City Simulation.
Manor Lords seems to be much more trading etc and Town simulation.
I believe that the 2 Devs have contact with each other and there are clearly simularities between them. ML is more photo realistic. Ostriv is more town oversight.
I expect to be playing both for a long time.
Gunna play the hell out of it!
I’m confused about it only being early access when on steam it says released 26/4?
Kind of reminds me of Lords of the Realm from the late 90's.
You know this is the best comparison I have heard yet. It has quite a bit in common with series and now I get why I’m excited. More city building but the general feeling is the same. Spend most turns building, consolidating and feeding your peasant than gain a bit of land. Combat was RTS like in Lord of the Realm just like Manor Lord, but not quick base building like Starcraft or the like. Great insight.
What i love about the game is that the graphics are realistic, for some reason, these kind of games, mostly always have this cartoony look that Age of Empires made popular. There is clearly love for the game by a single developer, if he can create this just by himself, imagine if he had a small team working under him!
To buy it or not is simply not a question at this point. Early gameplays look good. And if we can spend on AAA bullshit these days, we surely can support a passion project of one person who seems to have done an amazing job.
My only question is will this have Mod support? Because then we're gonna have endless time settings, maps etc. Only then it will become a dream come true that M&B (which if I remember correctly was a 2 people project at the time) became with mods. And I'm sure someone would be crazy enough to mod in the whole Europe map on a smaller scale. As long as I can dream, I will! :p
I am Hit and miss for early access but I do enjoy playing a good game and going back everytime new stuff is added. I will be buying Manor Loards!
Everyone should leave this dev alone.
We don't want another "George RR Martin situation" on our hands .
How much is early access and does that include free updates?
best comparison I think is knights and merchants
it's Banished with a very simple Total War style combat system, there, easy.
When is the full release?
This game is amazing already, and there is plenty content to justify buying the game right now even in early access, anything coming into the future is a bonus imo!
Greg can just take my money. played the demo it was awesome. All hail Greg! 😀
I have been playing "Early Access" Satisfactory since March of 2019... Five years. It's an awesome game that might not ever be finished. It's important to love the game in it's current state.
There is a good chance that this game will sell well and the dev can afford to get more people in and invest into the product. That is the risk of early access, though. Devs can take the money and run, or they can invest into the product and make it the best they can.
Hopefully the latter will apply here and the game will come out of early access as a polished labour of love. It's clearly not a cash grab as it would have been released long before this if it were.
WIll be buying this. I could play on Gamepass but id like to support him
Already got so much enjoyment just watching videos! Early access for sure! And single player is just fine Thank You.
This game is not really for me, I'd like to try it but maybe for $1-3 max. However it is very clear on what it offers, the state of it, and what it plans to do. If somebody are sure they want it based on what they see I am confident they wouldn't even regret a pre-order, even if I am against pre-ordering based on principle. It seems to be better and more polished than many new games that are not in any early access.
I'm excited to give this dev money like I was excited to give the Devs of Dwarf Fortress money
Thanks!
Dunno Italian Spartacus. I'm gonna have to see what Columbian Bolivar says about it.
Oh wait... it's on Game Pass. So I can just try it out there.
I loved aged of empires and watching your videos I’m so interested in this game and would love to be on the front end of this game. We need to support independent developers and get away from AAA gaming and bring the fun back into gaming.
I haven't watched the video, played only a few hours on the game but my answer is an ABSOLUTE FUCK YES. It's an excellent game and the guy who is developing it deserves his success.
Weird someone put a video in-between the ads 😜
Glad more devs and creators are blatantly putting early access out there for what it is. I'm glad nearly access has been able to survive the hate from people who don't understand the tradeoff you make getting EA. You gotta be willing to be ok with what you see possibly being all you'll get. The bulk of my favorite games of the past decade came out through early access.
great vid, glad this is gonna be on pc game pass so i can check it out
I thought it was full release coming on Friday not early access? It's got a release date on steam not an early access from date
This game is what the Stronghold series was supposed to become.
Been waiting for like six years. I'm ready to buy. Hope the dev takes a solid month off for a nice earned vacation
I'm all-in. Take my money!
Greg needs to make a mod kit 3 months prior to full release so people can get ready for the full release with official mod support to get the biggest boost in variety while he's still working on his own patches & others can make their own DLC sized mods, that would be awesome and a great way to keep the fire kindled for this game come time for full release. Also somebody will make an increased pop mod alongside a grand military mod so us total war fans can have our total war despite the dev's comments on it.
its incredible what happens to the final product of a video game when its development process isn't bloated with wasted money on investors and so many people it takes another 2 years to fix everything after release.
Idc what it cost. I will have this asap. Pretty amazing for a single dev.
Songs of Syx has prepared me for this game. That's the only accurate comparison I can make! Go play Songs of Syx AND Manor Lords.
Cash is super tight rn so I won't buy this game for a while, even though I've been loving the gameplay videos of it that I've been seeing. Didn't realize there's only one map on release, so I feel less fomo now. I really hope it does well going forward so that it's still a great game when I'm in a more comfortable place to buy it
I'm in two minds about this, being early access. On one hand, with the big publishers screwing over gamers, I'd rather support the smaller indie developer like Greg, but I also fear of it being stuck in early access hell, like a certain oft cited game that's been in early access for about a decade, or so. I'll wait and see what Saturday (it releases Sat my time) brings and how much it is. I didn't jump into BG3 EA till the last minute, in that when Larian published a release date, so may do so here.
As for the concepts I'd like to know about, it's about trade between villages and regions. If I have a strong mining region, which is also a rubbish agriculture region, is there are way, so far, to say trade weapons and armour for food and beer, and if so how does one do it?
Without even watching the video: Absofuckinglutely. It's clear this solo developer is very passionate about his game. The more sales he gets up front, the more he will want to continue development. I had a chance to play this during Steam NextFest 2 years ago and it was amazing. The soundtrack was so calming and the gameplay extremely engaging even with it's very slow pace. Buy this. This is the way.
