By the way Floppa hisses, you'd swear that hiss is the very last sound you heard before your death. But you can tell she's happy by the kneading of her paws. Bliss for her. From what I understand is that these cats don't meow, but communicate with hisses.
They can kind of meow. I actually found this video while searching up caracal meows. But their vocal cords aren’t well suited for it, so hissing is usually easier. When they do meow, it sounds like an old sci-fi laser.
No matter how long this cat has been around people, he is not a domesticated cat like our house cats. Muting the instincts of prey response takes generations. The people around this cat know how to act so that this cat's prey instincts do not automatically activate. No matter how long this cat has been around people, the cat has wild instincts still ready to respond.
That is completely incorrect. Aside from the fact that Gosha comes from generations of caracals that have been raised around people, he is not going to just suddenly turn on his owner's because of his so-called "instinct'. In case you haven't noticed btw, domestic house cats have a strong instinct to kill and hunt despite being raised around people for generations too. The only thing I'd say you would need to be careful of is because of their sheer size they could hurt you by accident

I love your videos. We have a new kitten, and I am realizing how much she has in common with Caracals. Caracals seem to hiss more liberally than house cats. This tells me that their hissing isn't an "eff you", but an "Oh come on, leave me alone". Our new kitten hisses and spits, but will cuddle with me minutes later.
I used to have a family of Lynx... I wore out 2-3 pair of heavy leather work gloves every year, but I still have all my fingers! Biting and scratching are simply in any can's nature, so you have to deal with it. I will say that, when I had the Lynx, I did not have very much upholstered furniture. Wow. I thought they didn't purr. Delightful to see I'm wrong. Big Floppa is very happy thinking of Elena as his mom.
You're onto something, tho'. The bigger the cat, the less they can purr or meow. So lions, tigers, leopards, etc., don't purr. They will huff or roar.
Thanks, Gian, for that information.
