Few generations before this, Alpina made the V12 7 series. Now that was something awesome. But still I would get the B7 over the 760. It's just more exotic, and only a handful of people know what it is.

There is someone who has ‘21 M760i in my home parking garage in Denver, CO. It is a stunning vehicle. I have also seen a ‘20 Alpina B7 driving around here. Personally, I would choose the B7 in the beautiful green like the one I saw that is on offer.

V12s are special and rare power plants soon to be even more rare. I have never driven one but it seems like the power delivery would be more turbine-like and therefore more luxurious which would fit the reason I would want to own a car like this, ultimate luxury.
I'd save the V8TT for the sportier sedans.

  • @eddstarr2185

My dream car is the V12 BMW 760i, but without the M-spec. The BMW USA configurator only offers the V12 as an M-spec but I prefer no hints of "sportiness" in the outward appearance of a grand luxury automobile. The "V12" badge is all the special identification needed.

  • @choyayahyah

I drove the new M760 and I thought the drive and specifically the engine coupled with the rear wheel steer was truly amazing. In the ned I didn't get the car because of the interior. I felt it was too outdated. Plus I was looking for something a bit sportier so got an M8. But if it was me, although I haven't driven the B7 I'd probably go for the M760 just for the V12. I hope BMW continues to make them and if they do I'll likely get the next generation. Great review as always.

  • @NevadaJohn1

As a current owner of a G12 750, I plan to purchase an m760i in the next couple years. I think the B7 is the better looking car by a mile and agree that it will hold its value better especially when considering the extra cost of the m760i. But when I'm spending that kind of money, I want the refinement of a V12 and that sways my decision more than anything else.

I own a 2020 M760i. Same specs as the review except no piano black trim and mine is gray with cognac interior. I choose the M760 over the B7 because I knew the V12 was smoother and a very special engine built by a company that builds great engines. And I don’t like the very low front air damn with a unclassy huge ALPINA stamp on it on the B7.

HP usually has a sharp peak at one specific RPM. The newer turbocharged vehicles are able to develop max horsepower over a short range of rpm. Torque is where you see a large band of max torque over the rpm range

    • @robertkamanzi9147
      @robertkamanzi9147 4 роки тому

@@jays9211 I appreciate this further explaining. My comment was meant as a sarcasm based on MotoMan’s seemingly extraordinary numbers. The “all the way up” comment seemed a little out of place, I kind of expected a red top of 8,000 rpm based on what the way he mentioned it (Yes I do understand few V12 on the market have high rpms except perhaps Ferrari’s and lambos). “All the way up” was an unnecessary hype. Although that hype could have been applied to the torque figures going from below 2,000 rpm to over 6,000 rpm, although that is common for turbo engines to have a wide torque band.

What if I order a 760 via BMW Individual Manufaktur, have it built exactly like a B7 (color and trim down to the Myrtle Wood) & then commission a third party for a set of 22" Alpina Dynamic wheels?
Ooooooorrrrr what if I buy a low milage pre-snout 760 & commission Touring Superleggera for something extra special?

For me I think the overall design, except the interior, isn’t as good as say an S-Class or A8. However to answer your question, I would get the B7. It looks more special, it’s cheaper, lighter and has better performance. If I had the $180k I’d probably stretch it to get a 911 Turbo to be honest or if I wanted a 4 door, I’d get a full loaded M5 competition but that’s me.

I disagree that V12's are being legislated away. BMW could easily make a 2.0L inline six, and a 4 liter V12. It is their greed that leaves us with all 2 liters being 4 cylinders. In my opinion, no luxury car should have a 4 cylinder, no matter how downsized the engine becomes. Give me a 1.5L turbo 5 before a 2L turbo 4.

Oh that piano black wood trim upcost is well worth it as it is lacquered tulipwood and hand buffed to a deep depth. This is a different animal than what the Asian vehicles put out and call it “piano black” aka black plastic looking. No one wants the gloss base wood or the flat wood (open pore wood ) reminiscing of 1970s paneling sheets found it your grandparents basement at this level of a luxury vehicle. BMW and Rolls Royce do their piano black lacquer almost identically and better than anyone else in the industry.
At this price point, ALPINA comes up and in my experience ALPINA has become more of a “parts bin” upgrade vehicle rather than a ground up bespoke build. If you want a true bespoke vehicle you need to buy a Rolls-Royce as no German or aftermarket German boutique brands will give you a true bespoke vehicle. ALPINA seems to be just bolting on a exhaust, minor body kit add-ons and a mild engine tune with a few badges thrown in. Test drove several over the last 2 years. I don’t see the value or buy into any extra exclusivity for the the up cost and I am their buying demographic. BMW knows how to build their own top level flagships at this point. If I need to add a cosmetic change to a 7 series flagship, the “BMW M Catalogue” has lots of choices of oem bolt on parts.

The N74TU66 engine is -- at least on paper -- uninspiring. It's almost as if the turbochargers aren't doing anything. If they had done this as a NA engine they will easily still get the same 600 hp and around 500 lb-ft out of it with the redline still at a relatively lazy 7000 rpm. Compression can be a point or two higher, with fuel economy a mpg or two better. So all that turbocharging, plumbing and after-cooling really just gets you 18% more torque and for it to peak sooner. An analogue of the level of performance will be a 2.0L four cylinder engine making 182 hp and 178 lb-ft of twist -- very below average even by 1990 standards. Hopefully being very unstressed will make this a reliable and durable motor for collectors 30 years from now; but being a BMW I won;t get my hopes up as there will almost always be some fiddly bit that will break and grenade the engine in the process. The last honestly good engine BMW made was the M62/S62 engine in the E39; ever since then it has been one disaster after another.

It's sad how much plastic is under that hood. That said, BMW has the best back seat tables of ANY luxury auto maker. Every other back seat table has a hinge in the middle. BMW made the table top flat. Makes sense to me.

They make V12s,without horrible big grilles. Now the smaller engines need huge grilles for cooling. That doesnt make sense...BMW isnt doing it for me anymore....Their new styling is a shambles.

Neither, just lease one is ok, let the next guy worries about those resale and maintenance costs.

i own 4 ( yes four m760Li xdrive's 2017 & 2018 cars ) have tried the X7 dont like it as much ,this is the last of the V12 cars from BMW , 1 of mine is chipped VERY QUICK !! but VERY WELL BEHAVED , as the warrinties run out they will all get the same rolling road upgrade from my race shop 50% extra TQ is a very worth while extra !! and i dont drive fast ( but fast it can do verry well if needed ) i know i wont ever be able to replace these later so ive covered my ass by having extra while they were available xx im happy ( i dont give a monkeys what others think ) i put my dosh where my mouth is -PS i sold my ghost at 123,00 miles to get this modle ,these are better and you dont get the jealousy with the M 7 ( most peopler dont know what the m7 V12 is ) pps the tuned m760 is returning me 25mpg ( English gallons ) the non tuned 610bhp are almost the same ( 1,000rpm at 50mph prob explains this ) and ped reconision is magic safty feature

@@dkentmd i know i said CHIPPED but its been on a 4 wheel linked dyno rolling road , ( it has to be 4 wheel linked ) and held in manual a nd not let go over 120 mph ( at 120 they change to 2 wheel drive ,and the dyno would go nuts ) i did buy 2 different chip pacages from the net ( was not happy with either of them ),we do have our own race cars and this is the dyno shop we normaly use , the guy there realy knows what to do to get what you want from each motor ,he was running this up for a while before he smiled !!!
