Graying, I caught ..Didn't have the heart to kill it , so let it go free , much to the chagrin of my Friends !! No Prob. we all caught a few more & had a good Pan fry for dinner :)))~~ I, T.Y. FOR LOVING THIS SPECIAL PART OF THE WORLD !!
Anthony, I just had to say thanks for this excellent video and ALL your fantastic information on the Canol Road/Heritage Trail! My grandfather was among its many builders (and an all-around Man of the North). Not sure if I am up for this trek anymore (maybe by helo, with a side trip to Nahanni to see the falls?), but I definitely enjoyed all you've shared so far! 😎✌️
Excellent video, I’ve always had a fascination with the Canol trail since working in Norman Wells in the early 90’s. Quite an accomplishment to make that trip on bikes and rafts, well done!! I’m planning on visiting the western end of the trail next summer with my son via McMillan Pass provided this COVID business has settled down by then. Thanks for sharing this video, nice work.
Thanks! This was actually my second time, a group of us did it with bikes and rafts in 2012. We could never find any solid info that anyone had ever biked the whole trail but certainly no one in a long time anyway. Enjoy your trip!
Thanks! About six and a half days. We were planning to do it faster and make it a round trip but we had some bike issues. Once we decided to make it one way we eased off the gas pedal.
Hi Jay! Motorcycle riders normally don't go much past the Yukon border which is still a maintained road to that point. Beyond that it quickly deteriorates into some of the terrain you see in our video. I know some some people have thought about attempting to ride to Norman Wells but so far it's not been done that I know of, at least not on bikes. A few groups have made it on ATVs over the years.
Hard to carry 10 days of food, packraft and all other gear without a backpack. Also helps distribute the weight, a fully loaded fatbike is a lot when you have to carry it.
Agreed. Old Man Mountain racks and Ortlieb panniers are, in my humble opinion, the way to go. Been there done that. But nicely done all the same guys. Respect. 👍

Fat bike, traveling. ❤🇺🇦💪
Very cool. Love that seafoam colored Norco. I have the same in Hunter Green.
So awesome! Hope to do this on a fat bike as well.

Great little video! How long did it take you from where you were dropped off to Norman Wells?
Thanks! About six and a half days. We were planning to do it faster and make it a round trip but we had some bike issues. Once we decided to make it one way we eased off the gas pedal.
Awesome
It looks amazing! I understand people have motorcycled this, but I can't see how, based on your video. Was some of it off trail?

@@AnthonyDeLorenzo Thanks for the reply!
Amazing video! Would you suggest using bikes or hiking?
I enjoyed both quite a bit. Hiking is definitely more straightforward. Biking the trail can push the limits of what some people consider "biking"
Cool trip! How were the bugs?
Worse than my other times on the Canol, mostly because it was blazing hot the whole trip. Mosquitoes were bad in some areas but horseflies worse.

Curious....what brand of Fat bikes did you use on the trail ??
Hi Steve, I ride a Surly Ice Cream Truck. We also had two Norcos and one RSD.
spettacolo !
I must thinking at Iohan.
Hey Anthony, im interested in using some of your footage in a video, let me know what you think
Hey, sorry I missed this comment! I think we might have connected already? If not shoot me an e-mail at anthony.delorenzo@gmail.com
Is this US or Canada?
Canada. The trail is located in the Northwest Territories.
Bikepacking with backpacks …. Ouch.
