The British people don't want guns or need them. We feel safe in this country because we know that it is highly unlikely that another member of the public has one. I'm not saying Britain doesn't have cretinous morons, because we do. It's just that our cretinous morons aren't likely to be armed, which is not something the United States can say. If a politician or member of the royal family's protection team were to actually shoot a member of the public (something I'm not sure has ever happened), then they would not be doing it lightly and would have a lot more checks and balances to go through than everybody else really. Of course, the British police have shot and killed people, wrongly so, but the resultant scandal drags on for years. Just look up Jean Charles de Menezes, whose only crime was having headphones on, so he didn't hear armed police yelling at him. He had done nothing wrong. It was a moment of national shame for us all.
