Yoda, Obi-Wan, Han Solo... the joke is to assume that a pointless trilogy like the sequels has any character importnat to the greater star wars. Kylo is just a retread of a Jedi that fell to the dark side and then died redeeming himself. Poe is just some good guy pilot, Finn could have added a new dimension to Star Wars by exploring the bad guys grunts, but was little more than comic relief, and Rey is just some Jedi chosen one awkwardly rehashing and trying to one up the original ones. Snoke is essentially a stock Sith-Lord cut out of the movie, Hux a clownish version of a villainous officer. No character is anything than a fairly badly executed Star Wars archetype that failed to add anything. Is there anything Rey did not any Jedi character could have done if the plot had decided to put them in the position? I don't see it. If you replace her with Mace Windu hiding out on a desert planet and becoming the hero of the resistance nothing changes. He can hold up his lightsaber and get Palaptine to electrocute his face. Try replacing Luke. I don't see him dropping his lightsaber and being like "sure electrocute me I disproved your philosophy" and get Vader to turn around and save him. We know that because like Rey and Luke he had a confrontation with Palapatine. Heck, friggin Jar Jar Binks as an outsider of an indigineous population who becomes a bridge between two people allowing them to defeat their common enemy and built lasting peace between them is as annoying as he is still something new Lucas added to Star Wars and has more of a claim to being an important Star Wars character than Rey.
Funnily enough one of my favorite childhood shows is based on OG Star Wars with a similar father/son parallel (Ninjago). It was great for over 10 years. Then some new writers came in about a year or two ago and changed it to feel more like it's based off the sequels and changed all the lore. They added a new protagonist who is held up to be so much better and more talented than the original protagonist (just like Rey). This shit has infected another beloved franchise by association because of grifter writers who had just left Disney Star Wars after a failed animated show. Yeah, the new writers for the show had just left that one Star Wars Resistance project no one liked that got canceled before they started on Ninjago. I swear destroying Ninjago and disrespecting it's lore is some sort of cope from them after their actual Star Wars endeavor failed.
Rumor has it that they announced one every time they had bad press so people would focus talking about those, but they had bad press so often... well....
I think they announce a ton of new things to see what generates enthusiasm. As none of them have, they're moving forward with what Kathleen Kennedy wants, which is more Rey.
- weak leadership - incoherent creative vision - ambition and complexity WAY beyond their capacity to write and produce They can WANT to be what they were, like a kid wants a packing box to be a spaceship, but it just won't achieve lift-off.
Crazy that they talk about the Old Testament, but the New Testament wasn't about replacing the Old. Jesus even said he wasn't there to replace the old covenant but to forge a new one. Disney seems to be going out of their way to destroy the old covenant that we had with Lucas.
agreed, the little green gremlin IMO is a hindrance to the Mando storyline,he should have stayed with Luke for additional training and saga could have continued with new characters/adventures 🤔
So, they are having trouble making star wars because they can't storyboard, and they think a plank of wood is their most important character? Hmm, I agree. That's quite the conundrum.
I just miss the good old days. I was there in 1977, waiting in line, and seeing Star Wars on the big screen! People in costumes, everyone cheering! Ahhh... those were the days!😊
Same here. I was young, exactly the target audience, and the only thing that's ever captivated me this much was when the Lord of the Rings hit the big screen (I'm a bigger Tolkien nerd than SW, but I digress). Disney did manage to speak to my inner child with the first two seasons of Mandalorian, and Tony Gilroy (who does NOT operate on Disney's playbook) captivated my adult self with Andor. But almost everything else this company has put out has been sheer garbage. I can only hope my kids will fascinated by Skeleton Crew as I once was, and I can be as happy with Andor S2 as I was with S1, but beyond that, Disney has effectively ruined my childhood.
They need to just stop hiring writers who openly hate or are completely apathetic towards Star Wars as a franchise. That would help a lot already. Second, they need to realize they actually do have a lot of younger Star Wars fans, but a lot of us are white men and that makes them angry. Thirdly, and this is the biggest one, decanonize the sequel trilogy. If they can they can come out and say they messed up and commit to those films no longer being canon so Star Wars, they could potentially earn back some good will. Not complete forgiveness, but potentially leniency on an upcoming project.
The original Star Wars was the vision of one person. You can't have a vision with multiple corporate executives trying to make decisions in multiple business meetings while calling any films associated with the original trilogy a "property."
You've got corporate executives trying to make the creative decisions, when... the whole reason they ended up as corporate executives is because they have no creativity.
Here's how you fix things with a Rey movie. Ashoka and Rey cross paths on Ossus. Rey follow Ashoka into the World Between Worlds. Ashoka has realized Ezra screwed up time by saving her, so she nobly sacrafices herself, letting Vader kill her to restore the timeline. Ashoka fades and Rey emerges to see a thriving Jedi Academy run by Master Skywalker and his wife Mara. No one believes her about the old time line except Marcos (Finn) who is training there. She sees Kylo, only everyone calls him Jacen in this timeline. His redheaded young apprentice is Ben. Worried he'll fall to the darkside again, they follow him to a peace summit with Correllian separatists. There Rey senses the presence of a Sith, Lumiya. She and Finn confront and kill Lumiya, preventing Jacen's fall to the darkside. Rey realizes this new timeline is better for everyone and makes no effort to change it back. Luke and Mara have a daughter cause that was a missed opportunity. And Rey accepts she's not a Skywalker and that's okay cause she can forge her own identity now.
The problem is that their idea of "new things" is undermining the accomplishment of the original trilogy, the Jedi and any character created pre-Disney.
Star Wars is probably the first fantasy thing I ever remember watching. I was raised both with Episode 6 on VHS which I rewatched constantly, as well as all the hype and marketing for Episode 1 back in the late 90´s. Star Wars has been my life, my toys, my videogames, my costumes, my birthday parties, and my reliable escapism entertainment since ever... and I felt so empty the other day when my little brother asked me if I watched the Acolyte and I just couldn't muster the words to express how I don't care anymore for my favorite thing ever. I stood there trying to say "I don't-- I-- I don't--" all I ended saying was "I just don't, anymore" and it was as sad as losing a loved one
Well, if nothing else, this confirms what we knew for some time. Lucasfilm is run by clowns, for clowns. Leave them to it. We have the old stuff, we are content.
Great video. Thank you. The sad truth may be that Rey is their "most valuable cinematic asset", which tells you everything about how worthless all their other "assets" are.
Star Wars was a global phenomenon back in 1977. It stayed in theatres for 12 months and revolutionised the film industry. It was more than just "very popular"
Star Wars Fandom: "Why are you destroying all of Lucasfilm's valuable IP's? You're supposed to be running it!" Kathleen Kennedy: "YoU'rE sUpPoSeD tO bE rUnNiNg It... *I am running it. Right into the ground."*
This video just made me realise after 45 years that I don’t love Star Wars. I love George’s Lucas. Like people love Tolkien. What a revelation. Thank you 🙏🏾
I've noticed a growing trend of talking brand names instead of author names in fan spaces lately. In my opinion it's always better to know who's writing, if they're the original author or if they actually care about the initial thought/intent behind the franchise. Overall the original will always be the purest form of that initial thought/intent and anything else is purely fanwork which can only get close, but never truly be the original.
"The OG trilogy is the Old Testament"...OK... There exists a very old saying regarding the biblical testaments that is, to me, very appropriate... "The NEW is in the OLD contained, the Old is in the New MAINTAINED" If they are going to live by the analogy, it becomes their responsibility to ASSURE that the OG trilogy is RESPECTED and continued in the new...anything less and it's THEIR hypocrisy that destroys...
"Nostalgia based franchise"? Bro what? They haven't seen how much people love things like Knights of the old republic, or the cinematics?Or the character of Asoka in the animated series? The force unleashed, Jedi Fallen order/survivor, all the books. People love the lore and the mythology and good characters.
Remember what Kathleen Kennedy said, "There's no source material," Kennedy said. "We don't have comic books. We don't have 800-page novels. We don't have anything other than passionate storytellers who get together and talk about what the next iteration might be." This is why Star Wars is failing... because you have ignorant people like this in charge.
That opening is depressing and that’s exactly what modern Star Wars has become. Depressing. The real Star Wars will always live on the movies, the EU books and comics and video games but Disney killed their own version of it.
I have decided to never engage with anything Star Wars related anymore, the only Star Wars media that I’d acknowledge is the original trilogy and that’s it , anything else I won’t even acknowledge it at all
It's up to you. I do think the prequels expand the OT, but NO ONE should tell you what's canon TO YOU. If you don't even enjoy Revenge of the Sith that's quite an unpopular opinion.
@@zahleerI like TPM but not the other two. I respect the story Lucas was trying to tell, but I don't think they were well done. They're Shakespeare next to the sequels, and the novelizations help explain the story.
I loved the Thrawn Trilogy and some of the Extended Universe. Not a fan of the Prequels though they did have some great video games. There was some bright spots in the Disney era I enjoyed but that has been stomped out. With all this baggage I can see why OT only is attractive even if I cannot perfectly achieve it myself
This is absolutely ridiculous. This is a dumpster fire and you have hundreds of people acting like it’s nothing and that everything they’re doing is what the fans want. I’m so done. It sucks that the privilege of these morons in boardrooms absolves them of any responsibility for ruining millions of fans’ enjoyment.
At this point I’m just hoping Disney sells SW to someone else who actually loves the property and treats it with more respect. Preferably before I die in the next 30 years.
Rey is one of the worst characters to ever come out of the franchise. She just became the most powerful Force user ever with zero training??? BS. I don't want to see any more films with her. Star Wars needs to go on a long hiatus. Maybe one show a year, but the movies need to be paused.
What’s interesting to me is how the TV side doesn’t have these problems like Ahsoka, Andor, Clone Wars, Rebels, Mandalorian are all incredible shows with a lot of time care and effort put into them
Even ignoring the quality of their products, lucasfilm just has to be one of the most dysfunctional and poorly run organisations on the planet. Constant announcements followed by cancellations and mothballing, nonsensical plans that don’t reflect their market and gross financial mismanagement on the few shows that actually make it off the ground. Wild.
I still don't understand how you expect them to admit that you were right. At this point they are like a mortally wounded animal that runs away, as soon as it stops it dies. Admitting their faults is the last thing they will ever do, the other is to give credit to the fans who have slandered these years. They will continue until they hit the iceberg rather than change direction and get off the helm.
It’s not that Star Wars only works on nostalgia. It’s that the ENTIRE DISNEY MODEL WORKS IN NOSTALGIA. Disney? Live Remakes Marvel? Comic book references Star Wars? The same things people knew but worse. It’s ridiculous how the Legacy era and even cases of the Old republic era could make connections and references to both the original trilogy and the prequels while still remaining on its own, now even considering bringing Darth Revan and his era to life would also mean exploiting a nostalgia that shouldn’t be touched. I mean, come on! Just by looking at the sith! The last sith, Darth Wred? Inspired by Vader, defeated by a Solo, still died a noble purpose like 150 years after the movies just before Disney showed up with the bills. Darth Krayt? Former Jedi, lived the prequels, lived after the originals, still forged a name for himself a century after what we knew Darth Talon? People can call out sexist designs all they want but she managed to be a villain not easily forgotten There were countless sith across the past and future that reflected how much authors could dive around with creativity around the filmic property, building a bigger place, how do you get stuck as a director of Lucasfilm with a bunch of films that won’t even happen and try to force Rey to save it all???
I remember being so mad watching that scene as a kid 😂 I always hated Kylo and having him kill such a legend pissed me off. Everything went downhill from there…
Anybody who had more reason than emotion would have realized it was dead the moment they said who Kylo was... the only surprise is most fans being surprised at Luke being ruined. Han's death being shrugged off by about 90% of the fanbase until ep 8 is the second worst fanbase willing blindness I've seen (if I'm right about the first, it should be revealed next year).
All they have to do is rollback all the Disney Star Was “canon”, produce the real sequel trilogy from Lucas’s treatments, and then faithfully adapt the beloved stories from the EU novels, games, and comic books. Easiest and most profitable path forward.
They have to use Rey. They killed off everyone and gave her everything. Since they are incapable of creating new things, they have to always fall back on something, but nothing else exists besides Rey. A new movie must be and always will be, Rey, creating a new Jedi Order to fight against a new Empire. That's all they can do, so that's what they are going to do. It's all trash and it's dead to me.
Or make a new Sith that isn't intimidating in the slightest, if Kylo is anything to go by, they way he walked looked sloppy, an emo brats who he screamed all the time. They even did this to Vader in the Kenobi show, they had Vader shouting. Gone are the days of great Sith villains, Vader, Sidious, Dooku, Maul and that's not even mentioning the Sith in the EU, Vitiate/Valkorian is one of the goats in my opinion, up there with Revan, Nihilus, Malgus & Bane.
They might just take Finn and do something interesting...oh wait, he has effectively fallen into the background and they don't care of him anymore. Oh well, very sad. Anyway...
Star Wars didn’t play to their strengths and their audience that’s why they failed. Even Marvel played to their strengths and audience when it was building up and there it is now. Look at Star Wars now.
I just love your sense of humor... It's the best way to deal with this mess. I especially appreciated the opening where you explained to 'the young' what SW was. The Beautiful Boy bit was spot on as well.
You know the sad part about this is that Ray was an interesting character when 'The Force Awakens' came but her character was ruin, along with Kylo Ren (Ben Solo) with 'The Last Jedi' and 'The Rise of Skywalker'. As I stated before in another video similar to yours, JesterBell, until Kathleen Kennedy steps down, you're going to continue to get terrible Star Wars shows like The Acolyte.
I do think the archetype of Rey, a female action hero for the next generation was a good idea. The problem is they never bothered developing her character. She has no sense of identity beyond wanting to copy Luke Skywalker and Disney trashed Luke Skywalker. They need to completely retcon the sequels because they forced the story into such a bleak path that it killed the energy and investment.
Rey is the most important(in Disney's very broken perspective) because, her story cuts the old people out of a paycheck. I relish the thought of refusing to pay for everything to do with Rey. I almost hope they do what they're planning so it blows up in their face more. But I prefer hope, being honest. The money they're chasing won't come. Great video. Truly divine.
> because, her story cuts the old people out of a paycheck. Like age and death aren't already doing that? And it WAS, except they CGIed Luke back in. So, no.
@@troffle Yeah, no, not at all. That'd be the one time I wouldn't have meant that, well, that and any other non main cast character who could arguably not be entitled to an estate stake in the holdings of the franchise, should it remain focused on the original cast and crew. Great Scott, trifle without the I is it?
Disney Star Wars can’t make new things. They tried that with the sequel trilogy, the acolyte, asohka, and for or five other horrible things I don’t care to mention. The writers they higher suck. The majority of the actors they cast. Suck. They need to drop the irl politics for both those things but like so many the brain rot has subsumed them and so they will waste away and be forgotten until Disney sells off the IP to someone else and hopefully it will be revived
As a long time fan since I was a kid, I have long been done with Star Wars. I don't even want Disney to figure it out and make better content. I simply don't trust them to make Star Wars good again. Way too focused on identity politics and clearly after this insight, they have no clue what they are doing. They really think nostalgia is their greatest asset? It's killing the franchise. I loathe Disney Star Wars and will NEVER support them again until it gets sold off again or buried altogether. Disney did that and only Disney is to blame.
Darth Vader with an AI generated voice under license is the strongest asset Lucasfilm has under its exclusive license. If I was heading up Lucasfilm, I would cash that token for a three movie project that explores Vader from the end of episode 3 to the end of episode 6. Take all of the woke out of it and make it the story it was meant to be. Three movies would be grrat byt you would get more out of three seasons of 12 episodes each. Maybe more. Vader is going to sell and you can springboard the reboot with lots of characters that already appear in the rxtended universe. Stay consistent with the EU canon. Nerds are gunna nerd. But there's a couple billion dollara yo he cashed and that is the ace in the hole. RIP James Earl Jones. May theybdo right by your legacy.
Lord, this franchise is DOOMED. There is not a fanbase for Rey unless Kylo appears in this movies. Lets be honest, the only fans this character has are the shippers. The reylos won't accept a Rey movie without Kylo Ren/Adam Driver involve. And Adam had said he wants to move on from this franchise. If Lucasfilm give her a new love interest or recast Kylo with another actor, I think they will lose that part of their fandom. Also John Boyega and Oscar Isaac won't come back. What will happen to their characters? Who else is left ...Rose Tico? The girl who was the ex- stormtropper from RoS?
There is not a fanbase for Rey unless Kylo appears in this movies- THIS. People cared more of him than of her. And as long as it takes two anyway, Rey is just not important.
it's amazing that disney rarely makes a muppet project, and when they do it's near perfect. can't say the same for the 14+ star wars projects they tried to release and they try to make it the main tentpole of the walt disney company.
The only way she could be a key character, is this she was sent back in time, became Anakin‘s mother. The two actresses kind of look alike they can pull it off 😅
I think they should’ve not have Milked Star Wars after the Sequel Trilogy came to an end. Now I feel like a few projects have made Star Wars look like Scrap Wars.
"Cutting one's loses" is a little something people say when they take the L, do something that would make them lose some stuff, but then, they can do better from then on. Disney needs to fire people they won't fire, they don't care what that does to SW.
They can't "continue the Skywalker saga" unless they go with whiteboy Kylo and are they gonna do that? They've admitted Rey isn't a Skywalker. This would hurt a lot more, except "Doctor Who" and "Star Trek" and "Foundation" and the desecration that keeps pretending to be "Lord Of The Rings" also "kept taking the drugs and making the wrong decisions" too. Oh, and Marvel and DC. I feel for you, I do. I'm just waaaaaay too burned out from all of this seven times over.
It once was love, then the horrible ex-wife broke your heart and you're "done with her"; but you're never over her because that's love. People love Star Wars but hate what it has become.
Yep, Leia wouldn't let First Order to rise or let her son Kylo become Hitler. What a dark stupid story that must be retconned. Simple have Leia hear Anakin voice saying don't send Kylo to train keep him home a happy messy family with Han running a fun junkyard while Leia politics. Then have Luke not run a brainwashing Jedi school and have him running around slapping any misbehaving Jedi and minor warlords....
You know how people have their "Be Kind" signs/shirts and the neighborhood kids gather singing, "Weeeeee areee not your Kind of peeeeople, you seem Kind of phonnnnyyy," well, hold the phone and tell the neighbors that with you, JesterBell, your "Love" hoodie is a reflection of your smart loving art motherly heart! You did your best, now hope you can get some rest because your son Gambit needs ya to get well, JesterBell! Hope you've been feeling better! Happy Fun Funny-over-Fear Family Friday to you, Gambit and your drug-addicted children...but not their Kind of fun!
If you think Star Wars is far from George Lucas's vision now, what the hell do you think Star Wars will be like in 20, 30, 40 years? Who said these IPs should go on forever? Star Wars was 3 bloody movies. That's it. It's done. We all need to move on, not just Disney. Disney Star Wars failed precisely because it is so contrived and forced; it was never authentic.
Amen. It's a story that has been told. Everything else is just fanfic no matter who is producing it. It's ludicrous to think these ancient IP's are like sports teams.
So in other words, they need a group of people to keep everything connected and let people know the things they need to know for their project. Almost like a story group. A Lucasfilm Story Group.
0:10 Now this is a story in a galaxy far far away. On a sand planet where a guy spent some of his days. And I'd like to take a minute. Just sit right there. I'm going to tell you the tragedy of Darth Vader.
Here is the hard truth: The sequels ruined Star Wars. Particularly for its handling of the original characters and their stories. When you deconstruct everything good that the franchise had built and put in its place an inferior soft reboot, you put yourself on a collision course. After the sequels, I no longer have any interest in how the story continues. Not even for new stories. Not even for the new characters. As long as the sequels exist, I have no choice but to return to the expanded universe. Even with all its problems, it is still an infinitely more satisfying sequel story than the one Disney made.
I clearly am in the minority but I'd like to see a Rey movie, but only if it was meant to redeem the sequel trilogy and the character. Episode 8 was a huge mistake and Episode 9 was an absolute disaster. Making a movie that tries to get the series back on track and logically transition to the next phase of the franchise is not a bad idea at all. If they succeeded, it would also show that the the fanbase isn't against female characters, but against bad movies.
While I don't have your optimism or love for Rey, I respect your opinion. Unfortunately, I don't think you'll get what you're reasonably hoping for. They just don't have the vision.
@@jspaingreene6350There's no vision capable of redeeming the ST. It's a whole nonsense that can't be explained, and those who think it was 8&9's fault are still on denial over 7.
Say what you will about the prequel trilogy, but it tried a LOT of new things. Nostalgia wasn't the ONLY driving factor, and the Sequel Trilogy never understood that
Tranlation: there is no leadership, so you have chaos. Which is why KK and her minions need to go. They have no understanding of the universe they are managing it the rules by which it operates. The person insisting that it’s a “nostalgia based” universe? They need to be fired. Effective immediately. That person is clueless to the point of being a danger to the enterprise…
It's rediculous that the beginning feels like something you'd actually have to say by this point. It would be hard to believe Star Wars was universally beloved with what they've done to it. 😢 Edit: 6:33 Omg, this clip is pure accuracy 😂
Why does everyone forget the Special Edition cuts or George Lucas cuts of the original trilogy? I hated that Geirge made changes to the original trilogy that wasn’t necessary.
It's a shame Star Wars used to be the most popular franchise ever to being lower than dirt. Lucasfilm did it to themselves though. Unless they start to make. new. things & make them good (I doubt they will), I can't be excited for SW anymore. But visiting SW legends material has been great
Consider this: Disney is well aware that reylo books like “Love Hypothesis” have sold millions of copies. They might actually think she’s a valuable character. It would explain the shades of reylo we saw in Acolyte.
Found it interesting that you chose to use drug addiction as an allegory for this because it’s spot on. The fact that these big corporations are so hell bent on making money, they for some reason can’t figure that part out - the thing that is vital to their job. They keep making bad decisions and are having less people in their corner to back them because they even know that there’s no helping them unless they wake up and smell the coffee.
I think a cult works better than "addiction" everyone but the leaders don't want the drugs the leader is pushing, but rather than go down to the Johnny law of money talking the leader is forcing the cult(IP) to drink the kool aid and die.
You nailed it Stars Wars is like your kid on drugs, and you can't help them. It shows Star Wars has a toxic positivity issue. We have you wait and see.
I think one of the key issues with Star Wars and Marvel as MOVIE vehicles is that the franchises are too bloated and have become unwieldy, especially in a Hollywood where writing talent pool is shallow, SFX is crunched and the money is chasing after more money that just isn't there.
Watching Disney Star Wars is like playing an old videogame series I love, but they had some stumbling entries due to failing to innovate or retain the gameplay’s ideals. And then they reboot it via a remake and eventually a nostalgia-influenced new mainline sequel, but it feels somewhat jaded because rather than carry on traditions while creating new ones, they try to be the complete opposite of what came before, and all those little quirks that defined that series/franchise (even the spin-offs) were washed away, leaving only vague “memberberry” references or shadows of what came before but stuck being dragged around as a skinsuit trotted around by the new version. It’s worse when the new version is legitimately good but latter entries don’t even utilize the new + old traditions properly and instead pivot hard into completely unrecognizable territory to very destructive results to both the past and the future.
I’m age 49, Star Wars is dead 💀 to me. I just kept expensive metal lightsabers, put them with my Japan 🇯🇵 Katanna Swords 🗡️ as a nice memory Peace ☮️ 🥃🔥 Note 📝: Could have been beautiful, writers ✍️ were people have never seen SW & political agenda Plus, they said if I am a “ White Male “, they didn’t want us as fans. I can only hope my kids will fascinated by Skeleton Crew as I once was, and I can be as happy with Andor S2 as I was with S1, but beyond that, Disney has effectively ruined my childhood.
It's such a tragic to see SW get ruined like this.
And ironically, the fans ruined them from their very start!

Pure propaganda when they tell us Rey is so valuable. Trying to convince us she's great!
You're supposed to be running it!"
Kathleen Kennedy: "YoU'rE sUpPoSeD tO bE rUnNiNg It... *I am running it. Right into the ground."*
Does Kathleen Kennedy have any idea how hated she is?
This video just made me realise after 45 years that I don’t love Star Wars. I love George’s Lucas. Like people love Tolkien. What a revelation. Thank you 🙏🏾
I've noticed a growing trend of talking brand names instead of author names in fan spaces lately.
In my opinion it's always better to know who's writing, if they're the original author or if they actually care about the initial thought/intent behind the franchise.
Overall the original will always be the purest form of that initial thought/intent and anything else is purely fanwork which can only get close, but never truly be the original.
“Drug addicted child” is the best analogy for Star Wars
"The OG trilogy is the Old Testament"...OK...
There exists a very old saying regarding the biblical testaments that is, to me, very appropriate...
"The NEW is in the OLD contained, the Old is in the New MAINTAINED"
If they are going to live by the analogy, it becomes their responsibility to ASSURE that the OG trilogy is RESPECTED and continued in the new...anything less and it's THEIR hypocrisy that destroys...
I love this.
It's all they have left after spending a decade doing absolutely nothing new that people liked.
Remember what Kathleen Kennedy said, "There's no source material," Kennedy said. "We don't have comic books. We don't have 800-page novels. We don't have anything other than passionate storytellers who get together and talk about what the next iteration might be."
This is why Star Wars is failing... because you have ignorant people like this in charge.
'We don't have any source material to adapt'
-Kathleen Kenedy.
I bet they dindn't dig that deep.
Old bad, new good. That's what they mean when they say nostalgia. Even if the old holds wisdom or even just a genuinely enjoyable story.
That opening is depressing and that’s exactly what modern Star Wars has become. Depressing. The real Star Wars will always live on the movies, the EU books and comics and video games but Disney killed their own version of it.
Just be patient. Lucasfilm will continue to fail until new leadership at Disney sells it to someone else.
W for the prequels! Disney SW is TRASH though...
So basically common sense vs Kathleen Kennedy
I'm almost 40 and I don't know what "star wars is". I just know what it used to be.
What happened to the Star Wars I used to know
It was Star Wars and it was beautiful...
What’s interesting to me is how the TV side doesn’t have these problems like Ahsoka, Andor, Clone Wars, Rebels, Mandalorian are all incredible shows with a lot of time care and effort put into them
Andor was great. Ahsoka was literally my breaking point. It's not worth sitting through all the garbage to find something good.
Disney? Live Remakes
Marvel? Comic book references
Star Wars? The same things people knew but worse.
It’s ridiculous how the Legacy era and even cases of the Old republic era could make connections and references to both the original trilogy and the prequels while still remaining on its own, now even considering bringing Darth Revan and his era to life would also mean exploiting a nostalgia that shouldn’t be touched.
I mean, come on! Just by looking at the sith!
The last sith, Darth Wred? Inspired by Vader, defeated by a Solo, still died a noble purpose like 150 years after the movies just before Disney showed up with the bills.
Darth Krayt? Former Jedi, lived the prequels, lived after the originals, still forged a name for himself a century after what we knew
Darth Talon? People can call out sexist designs all they want but she managed to be a villain not easily forgotten
There were countless sith across the past and future that reflected how much authors could dive around with creativity around the filmic property, building a bigger place, how do you get stuck as a director of Lucasfilm with a bunch of films that won’t even happen and try to force Rey to save it all???
They say nostalgia like it's bad. Nostalgia can be in a new movie and be built upon, but they can't do that. They're too stupid and hateful for that.
Star Wars died with Han Solo. When you accept that, it will make your life better.
Star Wars multiverse anchor being. They need to pull a new Han out of the world between worlds.
I remember being so mad watching that scene as a kid 😂 I always hated Kylo and having him kill such a legend pissed me off. Everything went downhill from there…
@@PelicanzzzNOOOOOO 😂 just let the man rest at this point. WBW shenanigans would be insult to injury.
the sequels did it for me
Anybody who had more reason than emotion would have realized it was dead the moment they said who Kylo was... the only surprise is most fans being surprised at Luke being ruined.
When I was a kid people called me gay for liking Star Wars.
Stop anyone in the street and ask them to name a Star Wars character created this century. They can’t.
These films are DEAD ON ARRIVAL! The next Star Wars flick will have Rey and Fin being Jedis and they will have babies together.

@@Dam-a-fence well that was rude and you get no more attention now.
It’s amazing how a studio could dropped the ball this hard on such a massive IP. But Disney destroyed Digimon and Power Rangers so I’m not surprised.
May theybdo right by your legacy.

what’s the definition of insanity?!!! 😳
To be fair to Daisy Ridley, neither Mark Hamill nor Hayden Christensen headlined successful movies after Star Wars.
Lord,this franchise is DOOMED.
And as long as it takes two anyway, Rey is just not important.
ah, This "Star War".
Now that's a name I have not heard in a long time. A long time.
On the Bright side I'm sitting here building a new Starship for Diznee favorite Cara Dune.
it's amazing that disney rarely makes a muppet project, and when they do it's near perfect. can't say the same for the 14+ star wars projects they tried to release and they try to make it the main tentpole of the walt disney company.
Star Wars will go on in history as the first franchise to fall victim to the decade long woke regime in hollywood.
The only way she could be a key character, is this she was sent back in time, became Anakin‘s mother. The two actresses kind of look alike they can pull it off 😅
Or Disney could sell Lucasfilm ?
I think they should’ve not have Milked Star Wars after the Sequel Trilogy came to an end.

Making bad content is 1 thing but trying to whitewash history to boost the relevance of 12 years' worth of it is the height of delusion.

They can't "continue the Skywalker saga" unless they go with whiteboy Kylo and are they gonna do that? They've admitted Rey isn't a Skywalker.

Now this is a story in a galaxy far far away.
On a sand planet where a guy spent some of his days.
And I'd like to take a minute.
Just sit right there.
I'm going to tell you the tragedy of Darth Vader.
Rey is the key to lock up the SW franchise forever.
I actually like Ray and Daisy Ridley as an actress but even I don’t understand why Disney sees both as their most important asset.
The war of the stars... I think we just kind of saw that play out. The stars lost...

It's rediculous that the beginning feels like something you'd actually have to say by this point. It would be hard to believe Star Wars was universally beloved with what they've done to it. 😢
Edit: 6:33 Omg, this clip is pure accuracy 😂
Why does everyone forget the Special Edition cuts or George Lucas cuts of the original trilogy? I hated that Geirge made changes to the original trilogy that wasn’t necessary.
lol. Perfectly stated. “Star Wars… was”. Period. It is no more. It will not, I cannot be ever again.

It's a shame Star Wars used to be the most popular franchise ever to being lower than dirt. Lucasfilm did it to themselves though. Unless they start to make. new. things & make them good (I doubt they will), I can't be excited for SW anymore. But visiting SW legends material has been great
Daisy Ridley was great in the film "Sometimes I Think About Dying." It had almost no expose with a limited theatrical release.
Consider this: Disney is well aware that reylo books like “Love Hypothesis” have sold millions of copies. They might actually think she’s a valuable character. It would explain the shades of reylo we saw in Acolyte.
Clear signs of a corporation in trouble.
Disney "Rey is a key character", Yoda "That is why you fail"
I think one of the key issues with Star Wars and Marvel as MOVIE vehicles is that the franchises are too bloated and have become unwieldy, especially in a Hollywood where writing talent pool is shallow, SFX is crunched and the money is chasing after more money that just isn't there.
Good job, J.B.!
I miss loving Star Wars. It’s saved me from some extremely dark times in my life. I’ll always love it, but these days it seems exhausting to love. 😭🖤
