- SEATTLE - An unauthorized homeless encampment scheduled to be cleared from the public sidewalk that connects South Lake Union to Seattle Center is getting bigger.
The encampment along Harrison Street over the entrance to the State Route 99 tunnel nearly covered the entire block on Wednesday. The sidewalk encampment is dotted with tents, stoves, chairs and other belongings.

Im done feeling bad for ppl who dont want help. If you wont take drug treatment to get off the street then you should go to jail.
Can't help those that don't want help. They want to continue drug use and that's why they refuse treatment. Anyone contributing to them while they refuse treatment, you're also a problem and an enabler.
Refuse treatment? Have you ever even been to rehab? Do you know how absolutely miserable it is? You sit in group all day long from 8 AM to 4 PM while people are making money off of your pain and suffering?
@@DerexLuvsJenkins so keep using drugs is the way? gtfoh.
drugs are bad , avoid them and people involved with them often as possible. Even doctors can’t and big pharma are adding to the drug epidemic. Profits over People and Families. Middle class is dead. 😵 Wake up.
Krewcial Finally a comment from somebody with a brain.
Ah this will never change , people always gonna be on the street
Seattle and King County are pig holes. If you have rental properties there I wish you luck the chances are good you will get scammed by a squatter. I was born and raised there and I do not recognize what has happened in Seattle. Left in 1994 to never return
Can’t argue with that. It’s bad.
Lucky you, now go away
Not a penny for Mayor Harrell's Transportation Levy until he cleans up the encampments.
Elections have consequences so enjoy what you voted for 😂😂😂.
Why doesn't Michelle Esteban get the "City" officials on video to explain why things are not happening? No accountability until the light of the camera exposes the ineffectiveness.
When I was homeless in to 90's it was unthinkable to just set up a tent on the sidewalk, you would have been arrested within hours. Homeless stayed under bridges or in the woods, out of public sight. Although there was alot less "homeless", because fentanyl didn't exist yet.
The green belts, 100% pack in, pack out. I learned from the soldiers.
Also, rents weren’t $2,500/month for a studio 😐
@@flanagamer LOL it's not $2500 for a studio, stop lying. 😂 Whatever studio rents for that you're not good enough for. Sorry not sorry but it's the truth. You're not entitled to a luxury studio like a tech employee who worked hard to get themselves through a Master's in computer science. You can live within your means just like the normal, valuable, productive people do.
They should sleep outside inslees house
Jay cares more for ORCAS.
Inslee... Seattle council and the ultra progressive legislators in the state house aren't going to help ANYONE except themselves. Whatever the right thing is, the government in Wa is wrong
Look at those nice new tents. They get their brand-new donated tents (some of them worth hundreds of dollars) thrown out in the sweep, then line up at REI and North Face to get brand-new ones and set them right back up in their old spot on the sidewalk, where the city's guaranteed to not bother them again for at least another six months. Why should they care? They get them for free.
Wait...where do I line up to get a free tent? I'm not homeless but I need a new tent.
😂 new tents
You jealous?
@@Ammi2255 hell yeah I am. I work hard and have a Walmart tent that is 15 years old. I want one of those all weather north face tents!! Anyone wanna trade?
@@susantully1533 must be a sign of the end times
“No one here has taken offers for help.”
Remember this around election time folks
They never do. GLAD I MOVED.
Is Seattle going to build more sidewalks for the homeless
:)
Yes
Stealing EVERYTHING that isn’t nailed down in the surrounding areas 😢
I have a Coleman tent, but the homeless have a North Face tent? I must be doing something wrong.
You jealous?
It seems TOO MANY PEOPLE are making money on homelessness - including government workers.
The Homeless Industrial Complex is alive & well in King County, and has been for 20 years by this point. And the Seattle voters keep on "voting blue, no matter who" and not connecting the dots. 🙄
How can I make money from it?
@@Ammi2255 Get a job with a 'non-profit' organization which receives grant$ from state & federal governments. Or start your own.
Yup. Just drove by it with my family from Florida. They haven't seen an encampment that big before.
It's sad but you can't live on the sidewalk
Why is that sad?
@@Mrs.TJTaylor pooping no place to poop 💩
SEND. THEM. PACKING.
Just get rid if the drug problem
Drug addicts.
There are seniors are waiting lists for housing. For years.
Meanwhile new apartments are given to fake refugees.
It's hard living next door to a drug dealer whose eviction court date is December
You jealous?
@@Ammi2255 go away troll
Summer of love 2024 🎉
Other cities sent them to seattle.
And it’s smelling more and more like piss through-out the city.
Wish I had bought stock in tent manufacturers. Maybe then I could afford to live in Seattle.
It might be time to apply our laws and ordinances to protect public safety.
If there is a tent, action need to be taken. If not it will grow and grow and will be out of control.
Is the system fixable? His answer, “If they start holding people accountable.” Which means No.
They came from Burien because we offer help as well and they absolutely totally disregard any help so they move to another location. Tell them HI from Burien for me.🤣😅🤣😅
Is it ok to shop in Burien again? It was crazy a few months back.
Money for wars but Not the poor.
Drop the "S" and it rhymes!
True. They will be back
So that's where the UW campers went.
Drug addicts don't want treatment, They want DRUGS
This is crazy. If you live in any location you have to pay. Tenants pays the landlord then the landlord pays the property taxes. Are the officials saying that if the tenants do not pay rent then the property owners do not need to pay property tax?
Yes
Let one in and they will all show up!
Bruce Harrold should step down
Does WA allow recall?
I think we were all done with this BS years ago
Right on Andrea
Homelessness is a visible sign of the failure of our nation to take care of it's citizens. It's not just drug use, but even then, addiction does not portend a dark heart or vile thoughts, though that is evidenced by many of great wealth. Other nations deal with these problems without being as cruel or thoughtless, but the USA is a materialist nation, so regular and unfortunate people don't matter as much in general.
The few in the streets vs the 30ksh million thatve flooded in. im sure this will matter
People complain about people without homes without recognizing the cost of just a rental or home in the area entails 80+ hours a week at minimum wage, then the person still has to eat and be clothed, have electricity and running water on what money???
None of these people are simply regular citizens who can't afford rent. They're junkies addicted to opioids. It's time to stop catering to those who want to smoke fentanyl all day over you, me, and everyone else. I dare you to find one person living in a tent down there who worked 1 40 hour work week in the last 5 years.
They are coming from California after the ban
Send these City officials to jail already it's bs
Great job, libs. Keep voting democrat.
Stop calling them homeless
@lostinthedesert-hp4bw but on drugs right?
indeed, 'parasites' is more apt, and leftist and democrat parasites at that...
Hell yeah brother!!! The reporter sounds like a rotten brat
Rent increase.. dont feel bad for them..
These people don't want housing or help
Until you voters pick differently nothing will change.
Give them 1 way tickets to jail or out of state.
i wish my tax dollars went toward mandatory mental health/addiction treatment and CLEAN&SOBER housing.
tiny house "villages" that still enable drug use and don't enforce clean&sober standatds are still just encampments and they still affect the community.
Everyone in King County voted for this and more...
I didn’t.
Amazon country? Amazing…
the city needs more AFFORDABLE and deeply AFFORDABLE housing. not luxury stuff.
Vibrant urban downtowns... Or so urbanites say. 😂
Do individuals like BIG?
Bung moa again why?
Who invented bung moa and why was it invented?
Everybody's working hard except for these entitled losers. It's a crime to loiter and do nothing.
