Just finished. Literally I'm looking at the credits while I write this. And I feel I must say, that yes, this is not a game for everyone, but I enjoyed the entire journey. Art, music, combat and characters are the best of this game, and I appreciate having the opportunity to experience this jewel.

I just finished the whole trilogy yesterday, one game after the other. it's been a while since the last time i played FF13 (played each game at launch) and now that i have my memory refreshed i can say wholeheartedly that this game is the best of the trilogy. the characters, the world. the landscapes, the battle system, the difficulty and the story are all great and the GCI cutscenes, omg, the cutscenes from chapter 7 and 12 are just perfect. Of course there are things that XIII-2 and LR did better. for example XIII-2 has Caius Ballad, the best villain i've seen in any FF game so far, imo. and it also has great level design and top tier music. LR is the weakest imo, but the battle system is pretty fun as well and all the side-quests are fun to do, you know, they're not just about ''go kill this, go kill that''. still, the original XIII has a special place in my heart and i believe i'll keep playing it over and over again in the future

There are a few moments earlier in the game where they pull some bait and switch for serious moments, only to have those moments be "just Joshin' ya" moments. In other words, you knew they wouldn't permenantly be turned into Cie'ths here because the story is about hope and needs a happy ending. But, just for a bit there, it was like, "no way, man. That's some dark stuff." Fang and Vanille could still have saved Cacoon, though, after that. But dang, all the rest of the party being turned into Cie'ths would've been wild.
FF13 really doesnt deserve to be so controversial/polarizing, in fact the ff7 remake is quite similar to it... Hojo's lab is like Taejin's tower, Eden is exactly like Midgar, the linearity, etc.

They didn't know Barthandelus was Orphan's vessel until they killed him and inadvertently released Orphan. Then the goal became killing Orphan while stopping whatever world-ending event followed, which turned out to be Cocoon dropping from the sky. Yeah the whole point turned out to be that killing Orphan would drop Cocoon onto Pulse but they didn't know that going in.

"If we have the power to destroy Cocoon, we have the power to save it!". Everything is a matter of debate, and there is an argument that all nostalgic fans of final fantasy, which is well wrong by the way. I honestly do not know if the turn-based combat is the total essence of the FF. It's your set of history, characters, landscapes. Action battles ARE NOT the evolution of battles by turns. They are simply different systems. To understand it better, it is like that belief that 3D animation is the evolution of traditional animation, when they are different things. Yes, both are animation but the way of working and the media are different, not to mention the final result. Basically, you do not expect to achieve the same with traditional animation as with 3D. And that happens with these two systems. On the one hand, the system by turns is a system of thinking, of shuffling options in a menu, where each character (usually) has a few possibilities. What are its failures? So, until now, every battle in turn is based on a map without visible enemies that appear after a tedious introduction, which gives way to a static battlefield, which at the aesthetic level is quite boring and not very dynamic. FF13 should help introduce you to the series since it's an easy jrpg overall with a wonderful story and visuals. XV is waay more complex and time consuming. Both are great btf games but you can't miss the chance on trying a classic as XIII, first.

I struggle to get back into the gameplay and linearity of 13 after playing 13-2 and LR guess I just prefer the faster pace idk. but I still love the story and world. Idc if it’s not popular opinion or not. I can’t say it’s my favorite in the franchise but apart from its pacing and linearity and I loved the paradigm system it just doesn’t hold my attention in this game nowadays idk how to explain it.
Thekiller45x FFXIII-2 is a mess on PC, i buy it but never have a chance to play it cause it freeze every second. I don't know if Shirrako manage to run that game flawlesly.
@@fahriza88 Just explain how you describe "smoothly". This comment was more than a year ago when I still have RX 480 (maybe this game doesn't love AMD's GPU & Driver overall). I'm playing this with GTX 1080 a while ago, and still doesn't run very smoothly. Force close still happenning but not very often as when I used RX 480 back then, fps counter is still worse than XIII & Lightning Returns (Vanilla, without mod/unofficial patch). Just glad unofficial patch help a bit, even still not perfect and fast sync help too.

In hindsight it kinda feels like this game was trying to be FFXV but the technology just wasn't there. They pushed presentation as far as it'd go and it left them with small corridors that were well window-dressed. XV ended up being what this wanted to be in my opinion. I'm hopeful that the FFVII remake or possible FFXVI will finally get the formula almost right. Square has a lot of mis-steps - and it's a coin-toss whether they've got a grasp on things. If they can maintain XV-levels of rich quality open-world throughout the next major mainline game without 'corridoring' or weird story-pacing they might just pull off something that lands in on "best games of all time" lists. Coin-toss though, it's already known that FFVIIR has had internal issues and is on an episodic chopping block.
That's horribly inaccurate, 13 was intentionally story driven and linear but they made it more linear than intended. XV is trying to copy 13's lore if anything.
The whole endgame made no sense. Why did they go to Orphan if destroying Orphan would destroy Cocoon? Why did they then try to destroy Orphan after fighting Barthandelus? After fighting Orphan what the fuck is that mess of events? None of it makes sense.
This game is like attacking automatically, i dont get it(i've never played a ff before) arent you supposed to select the attacks and habilities you want each turn¿
alex samprimo you don’t have to use the auto mechanic. You can play manually, but best of luck if you don’t know how to manage your time while selecting commands
It's what TV Tropes calls a "Programming Game", though its more straightforward and not as micro compared to FF12's Gambits Battle engagement is more about monitoring the situation and knowing which Paradigms to switch to and when, and on some fights, knowing when to use manual command selection.

Also FFXV was a big disappointment, bad characters, character development, battle system, etc. I loved the music and open world, but it was just an empty mess. FFXII, XIII, FFXIV, are all better than XV imo.
The battle system was great an much better that ff13 own. Ff13 tryed to combine ff10 an ff12 battle system into one an failed at I badly. You said ff15 ok pwn world was empty I agree but is there any open WORLD game on console that is full of life nope. A console can't handle a fully open world game game full of live with no loading zones as it would fry the ps4 xbox1.
I actually really enjoyed the Paradigm Shift, I'm not a big fan of the classic turn based system found in rpgs but this takes a spin on it I can really enjoy

I am a big fan of the games of Squaresoft / Enix and if I encouraged to try this game despite their bad criticism from the fans is because of the affection that I have to the saga Final Fantasy, basically. I understand that the critics are divided into two groups: those who have been playing virtually all Final Fantasy for years and those who either started scratching the surface with the last FF (like the XII) or those that are released with this game. For the latter it is normal that this game is a marvel.
Well, before I tried this Final Fantasy, I had read a lot of bad reviews about its linearity, I decided to play it and after I finished it, I realized that it is a very underrated game, not the best j-rpg of the generation, but neither It's so bad, it's a very entertaining game, that made me hooked to the TV for many hours in a row, it has a boring and desperate part, but it has that "something" that allows you to keep playing, people who doubt their quality , I recommend that you play it without paying much attention to bad reviews, which despite their mistakes, is a very good game
Klauser92 but there are more negativity than positives about the game from fans. I have played it an hated the combat with a burning passion. I don't hate the characters as many people do an the story was confusing for me.
But bear in mind something, the combat is not a genre, if not a mechanic for that game to be entertaining, of course there is no judge, everyone has their tastes when jrp`s is spoken, I do not concentrate on a single Combat mode, both turn-based and real-time combat, I find it very good, and final fantasy 13 has a well-kept and worked system.
I do not think the attempt to innovate the final fantasy combat system has failed, and I'll tell you why.
Everything is a matter of debate, and there is an argument that all nostalgic fans of final fantasy, which is well wrong by the way.
I honestly do not know if the turn-based combat is the total essence of the FF. It's your set of history, characters, landscapes. Action battles ARE NOT the evolution of battles by turns. They are simply different systems. To understand it better, it is like that belief that 3D animation is the evolution of traditional animation, when they are different things. Yes, both are animation but the way of working and the media are different, not to mention the final result. Basically, you do not expect to achieve the same with traditional animation as with 3D. And that happens with these two systems.
On the one hand, the system by turns is a system of thinking, of shuffling options in a menu, where each character (usually) has a few possibilities. What are its failures? So, until now, every battle in turn is based on a map without visible enemies that appear after a tedious introduction, which gives way to a static battlefield, which at the aesthetic level is quite boring and not very dynamic. This has a solution, and as an example I quote that many have presented: FF XIII, with a faster introduction and more movement of the characters. What are its advantages? Well the main one, that everyone ignores, is that you can have ALL the characters in the battle at your whim. This allows you to create different characters with their own abilities, which enriches the battle options, and has a direct effect on the development of the story. Speaking of the system of shifts, I do not mean a merely procedural (or mechanical) matter since we are talking about the gameplay that is a determining factor in the "species" of video game; We are not talking about a book, or a movie, where the way of executing is independent of the execution of the same; The video game has its peculiarities.
But removing combats by turns does not make Final Fantasy a different genre, it's still a JRPG. Shifts are a mechanics, not an instrument to create a genre. The JRPG embarks on many aspects: combats, exploration (not always), a developed story (better or worse), NPC with whom to converse and a touch of touch, level rise or skill acquisition.

I can't decide if I should play this game or go straight to Final Fantasy 15. I've never played any Final Fantasy game before so I don't know how hard it will be to learn to play the game. Grrr.
FF13 should help introduce you to the series since it's an easy jrpg overall with a wonderful story and visuals. XV is waay more complex and time consuming. Both are great btf games but you can't miss the chance on trying a classic as XIII, first.

I struggle to get back into the gameplay and linearity of 13 after playing 13-2 and LR guess I just prefer the faster pace idk. but I still love the story and world. Idc if it’s not popular opinion or not. I can’t say it’s my favorite in the franchise but apart from its pacing and linearity and I loved the paradigm system it just doesn’t hold my attention in this game nowadays idk how to explain it.

Thekiller45x FFXIII-2 is a mess on PC, i buy it but never have a chance to play it cause it freeze every second. I don't know if Shirrako manage to run that game flawlesly.

@@fahriza88 Just explain how you describe "smoothly". This comment was more than a year ago when I still have RX 480 (maybe this game doesn't love AMD's GPU & Driver overall). I'm playing this with GTX 1080 a while ago, and still doesn't run very smoothly. Force close still happenning but not very often as when I used RX 480 back then, fps counter is still worse than XIII & Lightning Returns (Vanilla, without mod/unofficial patch). Just glad unofficial patch help a bit, even still not perfect and fast sync help too.
@@dikkado freeze or force close never happened to me. But yea, I guess it needs slightly higher specs than for XIII. I also played it a year ago. Finished the story, got Lightning ravager from Colloseum dlc, and thats all. I dont know if still have the save file or not, lol

In hindsight it kinda feels like this game was trying to be FFXV but the technology just wasn't there. They pushed presentation as far as it'd go and it left them with small corridors that were well window-dressed. XV ended up being what this wanted to be in my opinion.
I'm hopeful that the FFVII remake or possible FFXVI will finally get the formula almost right. Square has a lot of mis-steps - and it's a coin-toss whether they've got a grasp on things. If they can maintain XV-levels of rich quality open-world throughout the next major mainline game without 'corridoring' or weird story-pacing they might just pull off something that lands in on "best games of all time" lists. Coin-toss though, it's already known that FFVIIR has had internal issues and is on an episodic chopping block.
I rather think corridors were made on purpose. Story-wise, it would have been incoherent being an open-world before arriving on Pulse.
That's horribly inaccurate, 13 was intentionally story driven and linear but they made it more linear than intended. XV is trying to copy 13's lore if anything.

The whole endgame made no sense. Why did they go to Orphan if destroying Orphan would destroy Cocoon? Why did they then try to destroy Orphan after fighting Barthandelus? After fighting Orphan what the fuck is that mess of events? None of it makes sense.
The ending here is doesn’t feel that happy when you see the next part in ffxiii2 and realize the twist :/

alex samprimo you don’t have to use the auto mechanic. You can play manually, but best of luck if you don’t know how to manage your time while selecting commands
It's what TV Tropes calls a "Programming Game", though its more straightforward and not as micro compared to FF12's Gambits
Battle engagement is more about monitoring the situation and knowing which Paradigms to switch to and when, and on some fights, knowing when to use manual command selection.

Also FFXV was a big disappointment, bad characters, character development, battle system, etc. I loved the music and open world, but it was just an empty mess. FFXII, XIII, FFXIV, are all better than XV imo.
The battle system was great an much better that ff13 own. Ff13 tryed to combine ff10 an ff12 battle system into one an failed at I badly. You said ff15 ok pwn world was empty I agree but is there any open WORLD game on console that is full of life nope. A console can't handle a fully open world game game full of live with no loading zones as it would fry the ps4 xbox1.
