I Left my Heart in San Francisco was playing on the plane when we landed there when I was a child back in the 70's. We crossed the Golden Gate Bridge to visit our relatives, my eyes were wide open looking at this beautiful city. I never forgot that experience.
That’s a fun story! That was cool of the airline to play a classic San Francisco song to welcome you to The City. I was living in Marin County when you crossed the Golden Gate Bridge that day. I’m glad you got to see my old stomping grounds.
I loved the San Francisco scenery! I think heroes trying to be inconspicuous wouldn’t have Bogie’s body language in modern movies. He’s still great (of course!).
steve conn That would be 1201 Greenwich? It's one block away from the 'crookedest street' in the world. Also, two blocks from the house Jimmy Stewart lived in in the movie ' Vertigo'.
I've lived in the City all my life. Bogie is the first one I've seen catch an empty cable car. It's interesting because you hear his voice for the first part of the film, but you don't see his face.
I saw this film recently and was certain the building that Bogart climbs down is the one everyone in It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World meets their fate on. I was wrong, of course.
The hills in this city can be quite unforgiving!

somehow San Francisco, LA and specially California has more of that Noir feeling than wither New York or Chicago.

That's my cousins building Bogie climbs down, the Talmapais, right next to Lombard.

Do the cable cars still turnstile like that? That’s pretty cool.
Yes!
They do, but usually there's a line to get on.
