Ohio Dad Admits To Executing Three Young Sons, Learns Punishment

- Chad Doerman changed his plea Friday and admitted to chasing down his three young sons, Clayton, 7, Hunter, 4, and Chase, 3, and executing them at the family's home in June 2023. Doerman had argued he was mentally ill and was not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Statements from Doerman's ex-wife and stepdaughter were read by a prosecutor as they described the pain of losing the boys. because only 21 states still have execution as a punishment on the books, 6 of them have stayed executions (ohio being one of them) so even if they wanted to do it and were ratified in their decision, the state itself cannot because it has literally nothing set up. Ohio most likely will outlaw it as well

When the police got there, he was speaking calmly, making complete sense, dressed appropriately, addressed the fact the police might be afraid of him and assured them he wouldn’t hurt them. He’s just a self-centered, entitled, selfish monster who was either trying to really hurt his wife or he was sick of being a parent.

It would be terrifying enough if it were a stranger who had done this to these boys, but the emotional trauma and confusion, the betrayal on the most basic and innate human level, when they realized it was their own father, that’s a psychological trauma worse than any other. This is one of the most heinous things I’ve ever come across.

Because he pled guilty. If he had pled not guilty a trial would have happened and his lawyer could’ve possibly convinced a jury he was insane and he would have been committed to a mental hospital instead of prison. This way (with his guilty plea) both sides agreed to take death off the table.

Notice how he seems distraught and cries when the stepdaughter’s message was read out loud. Like he seemed like “I can’t believe what I’ve done” but then when the mother’s statement was being read he didn’t cry at all, he looked smug, like her suffering was the whole point and he’s proud of it.

Plea deal for life without parole cancels out a jury trial and a death sentence.
@@WyattRyeSway you’re wrong he was facing the death penalty. The only reason he is not now is because the government gave him a plea deal that if he would lead guilty to five charges, they would take the death penalty off the table and not take it to trial.

@@Karen-mi3yz Yes, they go into protective custody. His crime was national news and young children were involved so there is no way they are putting him out in general population. Whether people like it or not, the prison is obligated to protect him. Dahmer was in protective custody in the beginning but came out years later and then was killed by another inmate.

The prosecutor shows more emotion than the father/monster of these sweet murdered boys.
I don't want to imagine the amount of trauma this caused the mother. This is her worst nightmare. My heart goes out to her and their families! Put this monster away forever. He didn't deserve his beautiful boy's.

Yes, that is usually a part of any plea deal, however plea deal also means there are not going to be any appeals.
The judge should show photos of those boys to Chad
while reading out the indictments.

The state failed the boys by allowing him a plea deal. Hopefully, justice will be served on him while he’s in prison.

I have to disagree. My sister was murdered when she was working late one night as a teenager. It was Christmas time. Her killer was sentenced to death. People don’t realize what that means when a death sentence is given to an inmate. It means they get a set amount of appeals. My sisters killer won one of those appeals. He was resentenced to 15 to life which means he now gets put up for parole and we have to beg the board to keep him behind bars. He’s been up 3 times now. It would’ve been far easier if at first he was just given life without the possibility of parole. I remind the board that since my sisters death he’s never apologized.

The letter Alexis wrote was so poised and showed such maturity. I hate that she had to find that within herself for this monster. When I hear this case mentioned, I think of the wonderful smiles of those beautiful boys. I hope they're somewhere at peace on a ball field together.

You would have to put everyone through a trial. And it automatically gets appealed if he's sentenced to death and everyone would have to go through it all again. OR he could be found not guilty and set free and he couldn't be tried again. This was the best way to go... especially since he was no longer saying it was by reason of insanity. Just that he did it and now he has three CONSECUTIVE life sentences without the possibility of parole. The ex and daughter never have to deal with him again if they don't want to (other than the obvious trauma they'll have to deal with).
So what? There should never been a plea deal he should have got the death penalty. Why does the death penalty exist if not for cases like this.

It honestly destroys me thinking about it. She went through THREE entire pregnancies, all the sacrifice and time and care it took to birth those boys. To raise them, side by side. Why? Just why? My wife and daughters are everything to me, I have chosen to die for them whenever that may be. This man had to have been plotting this for a long time, and had to have had no actual love for them, it must have been only conditional. There’s no way an actual, loving father could do this to their own blood. Just…why?

because in order to get a death sentence it would require a trial. Where the wife and daughter would have to testify. He would fight the charge and then every couple of years they would have to testify again. It could be dragged out for years.

It could have been part of the plea agreement. There is no jury to impress upon (make him look normal in front of). Besides, he ain't going anywhere.

@@SmilingArchaeology-bk2gy It could have been Part of that plea agreement that all parties agreed to--wearing normal clothes and being uncuffed (not uncommon). He's not going anywhere, cuffed or not. He's not having a jury trial, so the judge isn't going to be "impressed upon" if he's wearing cuffs or not.

Regardless, there's no way he would have taken a plea if the DP was still a possibility. This means his wife and stepdaughter would have to testify. This plea would have been reached with the families agreement.

This had me in full on sobbing tears, how he destroyed these boys and the lives of their mom and sister, is just sickening. I never wish anyone to suffer what these people must be suffering.
