It's happening real fast! I fished the East Carson for my Patreon Monday and there was tons of ice. chunks of slush floating in the river. I was shocked that I was able to catch something. Unless we get hit by a warm spell, save your gas and don't go!
Yeah, there weren't fish willing to bite everywhere to be sure. When I fished it for my Patreon I was getting fish in all of the fast moving water but nothing on this day. Hey, I'll take what I can get!
I'll be living the dream if I get to the point where I don't have a full time job on top of it. I love doing this so I will continue to fight the good fight as long as I can. If I can shake the job, then I plan to go farther and do even more. We'll see how it plays out.
Love watching the videos. Just fished the Middle Fork of the Feather this morning outside of Graeagle and caught a nice trout. Inspiring watching you have success in all our local rivers and lakes. Keep up the great videos.
Right on. I was glad to get out there before there's too much ice. I'm excited to hit the lakes out there for ice fishing this Winter. I can do without digging through deep snow to get to the ice so I can drill a hole though. Last Winter was rough!
Heading to the South Fork of the Yuba near hwy 20 tomorrow. Will see how that goes. Was going to try up off hwy 80 on the South Fork of the Yuba but after watching a couple of your videos it looks a little tough to get to any decent spots.
Yeah, it works like the old ones I had that finally gave in. True ultralight fanatics probably wouldn't consider that a true Ultralight rod but it's perfect for what I do. It has plenty of action and fighting fish is great on it.
Tomorrow morning I'm going to Huntington Lake. You should come back and do a tour of Fresno again. Huntington bite was on fire last week with nice size browns and bows.
I want to get back to Fresno. I have to suck it up and make the drive. I used to drive up there and fish all over east of Fresno a couple of times a month for many years when I was living in San Diego. I love it out there.
Right on. I raced out there after I saw the East Carson River with ice around the edges and floating down the middle of it. I hope the river stays clear long enough for you to fish it.
If you go to my fishing tips playlist I have videos that detail the basics of everything I do from fly fishing to bait fishing. I also explain what I was doing or how I approach situations in the hundreds of fishing videos across my channel playlists. If you scroll down the videos on my fishing tips playlist you might find a thing or two that might interest you or possibly even help you get fish in the net. Good luck.
I'm fully into the waterproof pants when I'm river fishing now because all of the wet brush I'm breaking through. I've already had one day where my jeans got soaked walking through wet high grass and once was enough!
I use 6lb Trilene XL mono. If you haven't seen any of it and are interested, I have a bunch of clips on my fishing tips playlist that detail tackle I use and how I fish some of it.
These ones I'm using here are cheap crappie jigs from Bass Pro Shops. They fall apart really easy so I wrap them tight with yarn before I use them. I have a clip on my fishing tips playlist where I detail all of the jigs I have had success with in rivers since I first started using them a few years ago.
Thanks for this video. I was just on the EF Carson about 10 days ago. I was just at the confluence of the EFC and Wolf Creek. Very cool campsites but very hard to get to the water. I caught one excellent rainbow but that was it. Great area though. I just got a 5' GX2 today. Seems good.
I'll take one excellent rainbow over a bunch of mediocre ones any day! It's getting cold and ice is showing up quick. I'll be getting the ice fishing stuff out before too long.
You definitely found a hole in the river that was holding fish. Crazy how you never caught anything in that spot before but you nailed them this time. But that's fishing !
I did get a few fish there the last time I fished it for Patreon a few weeks before but that was the first time I got anything in that slow area. I wonder if the absence of the river otters has the fish more out in the open and not running so scared of being otter food. What surprised me was that one small section of shoreline was the only spot I found aggressive fish. They must have feeding on something in a deep hole over the weed bed out there. When I was fishing for my Patreon a few weeks before I was catching fish everywhere. I wasn't getting a thing on this trip unless I was in that magic spot! I'll take it!
Hi Amani. Thanks for the video. I was wondering if you know all the different regulations concerning where, when and how you can fish? You were reading section 5.5 paragraph 2 verse eight. It seems like you can't go far without a whole new set of rules that you have to follow just to catch a fish. Do you think that fishing is overregulated?
I check the regulation guide for the water I am planning to fish every time before I head out if it's somewhere I don't fish often or I'm not sure. Section 5.85 of the current CA FW regulation guide opens all rivers, creeks, canals, not listed in the special regulation section after November 15th for artificial/barbless/zero bag limit. That opens up tons of options that were only open from the last Saturday in April until November 15th in the past. That was a life changing adjustment to rules as far as I was concerned! I fish artificial barbless/ zero bag limit in rivers anyway so this was a bonanza for me personally. The alphabetical special regulation chart for trout waters is on page 55 and then you can crosscheck water you are thinking about fishing between those two sections. Please be sure to confirm everything I wrote here for yourself. I have been wrong before. When in doubt, I recommend calling or emailing the district office and just ask. Good luck.
Good day. The rivers and some of the lakes down here in Alpine and Mono Counties are icing up fast.

Temps have been 10 to 15 degrees below normal here. Even our local lakes have been getting ice. @@wildernesswithamani1027
Hello Amani, Great Fishing as always you never seem to disappoint, glad you found that concentration of fish, keep on grinding my man.
Yeah, there weren't fish willing to bite everywhere to be sure. When I fished it for my Patreon I was getting fish in all of the fast moving water but nothing on this day. Hey, I'll take what I can get!
You’re living the dream bro and I’m jealous lol

I lived in portola
I’ve heard of that movie Deep and Fast from the seventies. 😵💫😎 I think it’s name comes the the end or climax.
Makes sense!
Ice fishing again this wintetr?
Of course! I am ready to go ice fishing where I don't have to dig through feet of snow to reach the ice like last year!
That new rod looks pretty banging ...
Yeah, it works like the old ones I had that finally gave in. True ultralight fanatics probably wouldn't consider that a true Ultralight rod but it's perfect for what I do. It has plenty of action and fighting fish is great on it.

Love your channel, amani! Keep them coming.
Right on. I have over 600 videos across my channel playlists and hopefully I can crank out 600 more. Thanks for tuning in.
Well soon when the snow comes there will be more ice fishing videos👍
Were you okay when u slipped?
Yes there will. I was fine when I slipped. Years of fishing in conditions like this and skateboarding have made me fairly skilled at falling!
Very cool! Nice work. I'll be in the area on NYE and will def check out that stretch-assuming the river's not frozen over by then!
Right on. I raced out there after I saw the East Carson River with ice around the edges and floating down the middle of it. I hope the river stays clear long enough for you to fish it.

Where do you live, in Sacramento?
I live in Reno. I visit family in Sacramento several times a year and have been fishing that area when I have been visiting since I was a kid.

Right on. It was a lot of fun out there. The ice on a lot of rivers is going to come quick. Get on it while you can!
