Hell yeah dude i heard you were in my neck of the woods the other day in hat creek. Caught 13 browns yesterday there in like an hour. Kind of a slow day normally i catch 100+ brown's this time of the year.
I have the same food strategy as you. Thanksgiving & Christmas the food restrictions are off. I want my pumpkin pie & whip cream. My only 2 days of the year i can do that. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year's.
I just had the pie/ whipped cream combo and it was awesome. I usually eat a boat load of food when I visit my family in Sac. I usually visit right after Christmas but my cousin and kids all have the flu so I'm not going near that place until mid January!
@wildernesswithamani1027 I only caught one , 22 inches long, but it was beautiful. My son caught two one 27 inches long, and the other one, 34 1/2 it weighed 18.4 on our scale

I'm glad I got out when I did because it started snowing before I got home. The elevation is a little higher where I live but I didn't want to fish in snow fall. I think I'm getting old!
I've been fishing all Winter long since high school. I just do it more now. We used to take my buddy Eric's VW bus up to Almanor mid Winter to camp and fish when we were in high school. I have a couple of other buddies from grade school who I used to fish during the Winter with who will end up in my videos eventually.
Ya deep Truckee water I try to grab a little bottom on the drift in the current seams. Wherever you can find them. River is a little weird in town now tho cuz the cutthroat stocking
I saw they were stocking a lot of Cutthroat the last couple of years. The ones I saw seemed like a good size for really good brown trout food. I won't mind running into the bigger ones that make it down the line.
I usually do good during the Winter out east but it takes choosing the right type of retrieve at the right time for the conditions in front of me. A lot of my Eastern Truckee content on my river fishing playlist is during the Winter. Right now, I think I am too quick to go with the deep slow retrieve because it's sort of new in my arsenal as something I've really refined. At some point, if I lean too much on one of several options for a retrieve it can cost me fish. Once they see it and pass on a strike, they usually won't go for it on subsequent casts no matter what I do. I spoil a lot of opportunities that way. Always learning.
@@avalon1rae Right on. Everything East of the Mustang bridge is artificial lures/ single barbless hooks but other than that the river in Nevada is open year round. It's the same in CA with the difference being it's artificial lures only during the regular trout season and then after November 15 until the last weekend in April it's artificial barbless lures only. CA has opened a lot of rivers year round with that type of system. I like it because I hate fishing rivers when it's hot because of rattle snakes!
I'm good on that. I used to fish Rapalas in rivers quite a bit years ago. They work but for me, no where near as good ass jigs. These days, I manage quite a few nice trout on what I do. Still getting better at it.
I was at the Mustang Bridge just downstream from Lockwood. I haven't fished the park since last Spring. Got a real nice brown then. I want to go there soon. The Eastern Truckee out there is a good option when it's snowing in the Mountains. As long as it isn't stained.
