SR 34067 Spam Can Hammers over Shap on the WCME 10/2/24.

- SR 34067 Tangmere would be at the helm of the 2nd Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express from Manchester Piccadilly to Carlisle via the West Coast Mainline over Shap .The weather forecast was showing overcast for all day but thankfully we struck lucky so we first see 34067 with 11 Maroon coaches approaching Shap Summit running some 49 minutes late due to water pressure issues at Carnforth .The return sees the Spam Cab at Angerholme and Aisgill summit. .Thanks to Nige for the lift and company today.
Lovely to see and hear (!) Tangmere working well on Shap Steve and a great vantage point at Angrholm. Enjoyed the billowing exhaust and, of course, the quality filming. Take care - Chris

Excellent shots Steve, great chatter and clag at Shap Summit. I reckon they were conserving water on the return, but still to good to see Tangers on something other than the Northern Belle again. Cheers, David.

You mean Diesel right, Guess the kettle couldn't do it alone.
@@316CactusJackyou mean Steam Loco, right? 34067 is perfectly capable of hauling 11 coaches over Shap but ETH supply needs a diesel which then has to pull its own weight (118t) and the tour was running late so it was giving a shove.

Fantastic footage as always Steve, thank you for sharing. Although we couldn't hear her the same in the middle of the train, we could smell 'Old Smokey' . The set was comfortable and smart looking, a well organised day with Steam thankfully still on the Main line.

Thanks for the comment and to be honest the diesel was obviously pushing to try and make up some time although Tangmere was certainly doing a good bit of the work .
HI Stephen, another great video, lovely train in very nice setting The loco had a strange beat to it, was this something to do with this class.

Great to hear a spamcan working hard. I used to see them in Exeter Central & St David's in the 50's climbing up the 1/37 to Central from St. David's. Keep up the good work. Ken B.

That diesel must have been pushing hard. No steam loco could lift eleven coaches up Shap alone at that speed.,
An A4 could as well as a Merchant Navy in the fifties. The Duchesses used to lift 15 coaches over Beattock as well as the Settle and Carlisle, with no diesel either.
May be but not at that speed
Certainly being pushed to try and make up the late running.
