Oh yes, there's a Deluxe Edition hardcover, an 'International Edition', an Annotated Edition, and now a 12-hardcover-issues slipcase edition! Not to forget 'Watching the Watchmen' - the 'definitive companion' by Dave Gibbons himself!
For the Love of Comics It’s surprisingly, audibly pleasing!😀 I honestly didn’t expect that, plus the video is amazing and delivers a personal opinion as opposed to a bland overlook on the edition. A great experienced opinion that lets you know you’re getting good info.
So glad to hear that! I think it is definitely worth a look, of course, but now I feel the Annotated Watchmen, which is also in black and white and has additional commentary, may be another way to go? 😁
The black and white certainly adds a new dimension to the intricate art. I thought that you'd be interested to know, Sir, that the Forbidden Planet (one of the largest comic book stores in the UK) are selling this edition of Watchmen Noir signed by Dave Gibbons for a mere £35 which is quite a remarkable price as the store is completely reliable and this item seems to be quite a find for an affordable amount
Not just yet but I certainly plan to! 🤞🏼 The sheer number of different editions and publications of these Watchmen comics never ceases to surprise me 🤔
@@ftloc Just to let you know, the same signed by Dave Gibbons hardback version is now £22.99 on Forbidden Planet UK. I watched your review to decide if I should purchase it, and I decided to buy it as £22.99 seems a really good price for the signed version.
That depends on what you are looking for. Getting a deluxe upgrades your TPB to a hardcover and gets you the behind-the-scenes extras. Noir has no extras, but is a large, solid, well produced edition of a different 'version' of Watchmen; the deluxe is essentially replicating your TPB's version, colour and all. If you plan to get the Absolute one day, you will get everything the deluxe currently has and oversized pages, in which case go for the Noir now. What do you think?
@@ftlocl wont be able to afford the absolute edition. I think its better to have two different versions rather than having a replica. But the fact that noir and deluxe editions are almost similarly priced is making me wonder whether chosing the noir over deluxe is a smart decision.
@@yanalboss I don't think the Absolute Edition is going OOP so you could even buy it years from now. I owned a Watchmen TPB that pretty much fell apart after years of rereading and frequent lending, at which point I got the Absolute.
Looks like Watchmen certainly shines, even as a black and white Noir. Makes sense, as it was essentially a Noir mystery anyway. Didn't know this edition existed, but I'm glad it does. I don't have Watchmen yet (I borrowed a copy to read years ago). I think I'll be going for the Absolute edition myself for the first buy (thanks to your co.parison videos). Much appreciated!
The Absolute Edition is a great choice and a definitive way to read it, most would say! The Noir edition looks great and works well as a companion piece, but not so much as the only copy one owns. Glad you enjoyed the videos!
If it gets a bad rap, it isn't for the product itself, it's whatever nefarious purposes folks assign to the corporation. The book itself is pretty sweet, I'm with you there.
Honestly this black and white edition just seems like a shameless rip off/cash grab. The coloured ones are much better and add so much to the atmosphere.
Well, they sure crabbed MY cash! 😀 I know what you mean, though - the colours (especially the original colours) are such a striking and indelible feature of Watchmen that this sounds a bit of an odd idea at first. But as I said in the video and in a comment above, this isn't really a replacement for the colour edition - this is a glimpse into how the original art looks and to allow us to read the story differently. For people curious about how comics reading is and is not affected by various artistic choices, I think this works really well. Perhaps a lesser book, one not so dense and rich, would seem more redundant, but for something as layered as Watchmen, I think there's an audience for varying combinations and permutations. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
@@ftloc yeah that makes sense. And keep up the good work! It's not often that you see an Indian vlogger with such an in-depth knowledge of the medium 👍
These kind of releases are such weird cash grabs. Because what's the point here? Really...The comic-book was never intended to be black and white. It's not drawn or designed that way.
From the art perspective... To see the work that goes into the art and helps structure theses books is amazing. I love the noir but even more so the unwrapped versions as those are even more raw of sketching before any ink touches the artists vision.
So glad that I found people out there who share the same passion for comics that I do.
Long live the internet! 😀
Another "Deluxe"edition is available out there

Thank you so much - I wonder why I didn't see this comment before but better late than never! 😁
This is such a good video and analysis on the book. Makes me consider checking it out when I initially thought I wouldn't.

Great video ! I couldn't fully appreciate Watchmen without John Higgins' legendary color work but this sure is a beautiful edition.
Thank you! And I absolutely agree; this is in no way a definitive edition, and for people who are already fans, not first time readers!~
I love the word 'deluxe'
I do too. I also like the two-word 'de luxe' when I run across it in older books. 😀

Do you have the Annotated Watchmen? If so, would you do a video?
I do! And I definitely will, just as I will for the Annotated Sandman; thanks for the nudge!

I need a translation, unfortunately! I see 'fit', 'suitable' and 'available'. But none seem to...fit?
