@leonpat2002 Bob Dylan used to hang with the Clancys in the White Horse Tavern when they had singalongs. Brennan on the Moor was a staple of the CBTM repetoire. Liam Clancy said Dylan went home and wrote a song about fourteen verses long based on the Brennan music, which he recited to Liam a few days later on Sullivan Street when Liam was trying to get into a cab. When he finally finished, Liam suggested that he just needed to cut a few verses.
Love the fact that, for us "buffs" this remains the only recording I know of that actually documents their sound for the Reunion concert tour era. I believe the Lincoln center gig was supposed to be a fairly limited event??? I know that it turned into a big US, IRL, and GB tour and Tom lost his voice along the way. Unless Mr Cassidy can ever release the full Lincoln Center Reunion album, this is Tom's only recorded Brennan from that time. Wonder if there is a full version in his archives???? I'm guessing Brennan was cut because of the feedback shriek when they first began.
@AndrewP222 Naaa, Willy Brennan was hung in 1804 and this song dates from 1859. Don't think Bob, as good as he is, was around to influence this song ;-)
God Bless the Clancey Brothers…J. Brennan
Brilliant.
