I live in New Jersey, I woke up this morning to the house shaking. I thought my sister was banging the floor but I realized that wasn’t it. My friends were texting me a lot and they were all panicking.

I live in Cortland County in central New York. I was reading in bed, and around 10:30 I felt the house move, and the things on my bedside table rattled. It only lasted a few seconds. I'm 71 and have experienced a few quakes in this area before. At first I thought it was snow falling off the roof, but there was no loud sound, and when I looked, there was very little snow on the ground and a thin layer of snow on the roof.
Have family in NYC and CT and they felt it and me. Small rumble that lasted 2-4 seconds. I thought it was maybe the women of THEVIEW were hungry.

I live in a very active faultline in California (Central Coast area). I'll say to anyone on the East Coast-a 4.8 magnitude jolt would get our attention, so I could only imagine what the folks out on the East Coast must have felt if this is their 1st time feeling a quake of this magnitude. 😮
I lived between SF & SJ the first 8 years of my life-- too young/unobservant to remember earthquakes from back then if any. Flash forward to last week and apparently...Philadelphia was where I needed to be!? I was sleeping in and I got woken up and half-asleep I thought “that’s cool, must be some crazy construction nearby or….an earthquake? Nah” and smiled and went back to sleep. Not sure how to phrase it right but the shaking felt "right," or rather like I always imagined it would feel

This earthquake wasn’t just outside the city, it was 45 miles to the west. It was closer to PA than NYC.

I was sitting in my recliner with my dog in my lap when all of a sudden I felt my chair fall from underneath me, almost like a falling feeling, and all the windows in my house suddenly started shaking. This lasted for around 15 seconds. Freaky stuff. Sullivan County here.
It was fairly violent in Brooklyn. I took my dog and ran out to the street.

Compared to places around the world that has frequent earthquakes, 4.8 is a rather small earthquake.
But for the north east region, that’s huge! Because we don’t get earthquakes.
