Daily life in Gaza, December 3rd, 2008. Food, markets, people, roads, cars, view on the sea. The video was posted on www.road90.com. I made it available for the youtube crowd.
You're completely right pointing this out. I can only conclude that at least this video gives some other Gaza you generally don't see in news videos. Perhaps this footage shows the only spot in Gaza where all the humanitarian aid went. Who knows. :P
Gaza seems pretty alright by this: Plenty of food, people socializing in the streets, looks like any major Arab city in the region, much like parts of Cairo, or Oman.
Thank you for this extra information. This video is not a denial of a misery some Gazans are/might be living in, but showing you that it's not all misery in the first place (as you might believe when watching television nowadays). Tell me, e.g., how come there actually IS a "chic centre"?
virtually every humanitarian aid agency in the region, including red cross, amnesty international, and human rights watch, has declared the situation in palestine a "humanitarian crisis". when 80% rely on foreign aid, around 50% are unemployed, there is "chronic malnutrition", hospitals get up to 12-hour power cuts daily, water and sewage infrastructure have fully collapsed in some areas, etc. etc. keep in mind the video is before Cast Lead took place.
@O51887 Yes the name Palestine has been used, this however does not mean that there is or ever was a state called Palestine, there is no evidence to suggest that. The name "Palestine" was used to refer to a region, not a country, Palestine is merely a geographical term just like Scandinavia.
@acolyte27 (And I mean, even my own country, France wich is sadly making some kind of war in Lybia...Anyway, I hope that this conflict will finaly end someday.)
@Yamisrael I agree. Arabic culture is truly wonderful and full of so much inspiration. Sadly it's been held back by corrupt radicals. How do the Palestinians spend the £1.5 billion they receive in aid each year? Suha Arafat inherited an awful lot of money from Arafat.
They looks very prosperous for a poor people opprimed by bad Israeli and Americans. That seems even better than in Paris, New-York or London (if we except the veils and the probably tags of hate upon the walls of course)
@halcyon0830 this is about a month before the war genius. and 3 years after the IDF pulled its troops and defense posts outside of gaza into israeli land to settle a peace deal in 2005. Look up Gush Katif it was an israeli settlement worth billions that had to be destoryed and the 8,000+ people that lived their were forced out by the army, in Israels unilateral disengagement plan, in gaza and the west bank for peace. A peace which never came.
Israel was recreated in 1948 (there was an israel way before, btw - a kingdom; so that's why i'm saying recreated). Before 1948 there were jews, arabs, druze and bedouins (the latter two referred to as arabs sometims as well), persians (bahai), circassians, brits (they were in control, ya know) and many more.
If the ancient Philistines are still among us, they are probably living in Gaza. But be careful, I once managed to offend a Gazan when i stated he might probably be some far descendant of the Philistines. He saw himself as Arab.
@winston2015 Just because Jordan seized part of Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria in 1948 while trying to destroy Israel with 5 other armies doesn't mean it belonged to them. Israel got it when they had to defend themselves in 1967.
drop the hate & LOVE each other your use of the f-word sums you up, & if your dutch look at your own recent history my friend. do two wrongs make a right? x
Just as the "Arab propaganda" (of which there is lots) could be selectively only showing us the miserable parts of Gaza to create that humanitarian crisis image, this video could likewise only be showing the few nice parts. Maybe that's the only veggie mart in the city? Who knows. just wanted to point that out.
@AdultAlchemist 'Jordan occupies 75% of what would be considered British Palestine, yet no one considers them an occupying nation.' Jordan hasn't set up hundreds of illegal militarized religious settlements outside of it's territorial boundaries. It hasn't taken over it''s neighbors capital like Israel has in East Jerusalem to mention just two of the reasons the world is so critical of Israel. Just because terrorists are criminals doesnt give Israel the right to collectively punish so many
"some Gazans" ? in a territory of 1.5 million people, you picked up few minutes of pictures from 2 places in Gaza city, a usualy crounded street and the place where live the families of the Fatah officials. Read Amnesty or UN reports if you REALLY want to know the situation in Gaza today. There IS a chic center because as usual in History, occupation and blocus affects most of the people, not all of them. Remember about Iraq ? and road90 is a nice site of pure propaganda... nice references !
Strangely impassive faces? You get these faces all the time when you just videotape people as a tourist walking in the street in place x - somewhere in the world. Try it out and see for yourself.
also speak for yourself... u dont like them...fair..... that doesnt mean that nobody cares... if you were killed or your mom killed or your children killed/... would you care???
Nice city, people seem to live like anywhere else. Way to go, people of Gaza, be proud of your city ! Would love to visit one day...
Looks like a nice place to visit.

it was posted on the website of road90 by a Frenchman called Joel.
I WANT TO STARVE LIKE THESE GUYS.
LOL

wow.
life can be pretty good when you get everything for free
@winston2015 i do not understand? whose land do we occupy?

You're welcome to post any video reply.

Is that necessary? If you visit a place you go around and start interviewing people?
also notice how the filmmaker doesn't *interview* anyone.
@acolyte27 (And I mean, even my own country, France wich is sadly making some kind of war in Lybia...Anyway, I hope that this conflict will finaly end someday.)
That was different before the second intifada. Guess why.
@Yamisrael I agree. Arabic culture is truly wonderful and full of so much inspiration.

If Herodotus mentions palestine he must mean Philistia. The Philistines weren't arabs. The arabs invaded the area in 7AD.

Hamas was created in 1987,
@AdultAlchemist Well... There wasnt a country named Israel Either... Palestinians are an older nation than Israel...

This is a concentration camp?
In any case I think this video is bull. "Ooh look, the streets are lined with trees!" does not a happy place to live make.

you have any idea how many arabs are not paying taxes at all in israel? :) prolly not, coz otherwise you would not state this.
